1:39 to 1:45 is absolutely mental, the sheer vulnerability and sadness that morphs into cold brattiness in a matter of seconds blows me away. Sarah Snook is an absolute talent
I love that! Also at 2:20, you see on her face her working through the shock and sadness of Tom admitting who he really is. I mean she knew it already because of his actions, but the shock of hearing him admit it played on her face so well. And then right into the laugh of almost admiration, at what Tom “pulled off” I also think it shattered her reality of Tom’s “undying love” for her that made her feel safe and gave her the upper hand in the relationship. I think that might have played into why she went back to Tom and changed her vote. Her face told us more than her dialogue in this scene. It was brilliant, she’s brilliant.
This is my favourite scene in the show. All artifice is tripped away for a moment, and the reality of the two's relationship (and the world) is revealed. The idea that anyone would do anything - even love - for non-monetary reasons is laughable to these two.
Matthew MacFadyen is so absolutely beautiful in this scene .. especially when he breaks out that unforgettable smile.. and that lovely laugh .. Matthew exudes such charm and charisma.. and when he says come and live with me in a trailer park ., yeah ? Are you coming? Wonder of this is how could Shiv resist him .. all through the show.. Matthew plays Tom so brilliantly that you actually WANT to go live in that trailer park with him forever .. And the way he moves himself around Shiv ., Sarah Snook plays her to the hilt ., these two excellent and amazing actors play off each other so beautifully and so brilliantly .. their relationship ., and their wonderful chemistry together is what kept me watching Succession .. And in the final program ., when Tom reached out his open palm up hand to Shiv .. and when she placed her hand gently atop his ., and left it there .. I absolutely cried.. just the ending I was hoping for,. Others may not agree ., but to me the brilliant interplay between these two indomitable actors is what made Succession magnificant .. Yes the writing was phenomenal.. and the music was first class all the way .. and every actor in this show was grand .. Even so , the combination of Matthew MacFadyen as Tom and Sarah Snook as Shiv made this show soar .. the most quintessential acting I have seen in a very long time .. truly brilliant .. awesome .. showstopping ., award worthy .. you get the picture.. All in all so well done ..but Matthew and Sarah were perfection ❣ Jen999💙
I did not know what to think of Tom and Shiv's final car ride. To me, Siobhan looked defeated and frightened as if she was getting ready to enter the unknown. It was almost as she did not know who she is going home with. She sold her father's company as he had wanted; she destroyed her relationship with her brothers; little relationship with her mother. For Tom, I found him difficult to read other than, it was the look that I have got you where I want you ---- you made me the CEO and your pregnant. Shiv's only saving grace is the money that she getting out of the deal.

This is SO GOOD, I love him, and I love his honesty. In the course of 4 seasons, you would think he's a guy, not worth respect, and that he's an opportunistic idiot, but he really is someone you can live within a trailer park and be completely happy and content. It's such an honest scene. Snook and Macfadyen are perfect together. Just give them their damn EMMY ppl!
Knowing how it all ends this was Tom's warning to her.....not to mention him calling her out on her bullshit to her face. Tom was always always always the truth and he was always telling her....."This is who we are. This is what we do" and the way she would look at him. In a way, he NEVER backed down. Not once. Not ever, knowing damn good and well what it could cost him but in the end....he took sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much shit from them all and he outsmarted ALL of them. Just incredible writing. Unbelievable acting from all of them. Genius.
Hearing Tom's breakdown of that necessary evil reminds me of a great moment in the film SPEED. At one point in the film, Dennis Hopper honestly admits that he wish his bus bomb scheme was in honor of some worthy cause or world-shaking message. But at the end of the day, he just wants money. Nothing more, nothing less...😂
There was a play very much like this on Broadway a few years ago. I can't remember what it was called, but it had Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton, and Charlie cox.
