After reviewing your comments on the last video, we decided to make a second video showing additional speeds and interior shots. In this video we compare a Model 3 with PWS to a Model 3 without PWS at various speeds, from inside and outside of the vehicle. The Pedestrian Warning System is a new requirement and is intended to alert pedestrians to the presence of electric vehicles in hopes of avoiding accidents. There is a different sound for reverse and forward. The tone changes as the speed varies between 0 and 19 mph. Model 3 built after 9/1/2019 will have the PWS system. Not sure on the exact dates, but sounds like other electric vehicles will soon be made with a similar device as well.

For everyone saying 'just unplug it - easy' you're not considering what will happen to you should you actually hit a pedestrian and be found to have disconnected the PWS yourself. This is a larger issue than just an annoying sound.

Suggestion for your next video. Test noise levels of some luxury ICE cars at low speeds to demonstrate that EVs are being unfairly targeted with these artificial noise regulations.

I must say I hate the driving pws but I like the reverse pws cause it feels like a spaceship and I wish there will be a feature where you can turn off pws front and back

The rear sound isn't bad, but the forward one sounds like you're dragging a branch under the car. And neither will help some mope with Beats earbuds hear your car or the diesel truck next to you for that matter. My wire somehow came loose, so I'll have Tesla put their best people on that problem at my next oil change appointment.

I honestly didn't even know my Model 3 made a sound until I had the windows down... My car was built 9/19 and has this 🔊 in the bumper... I don't hate it and already though the car was pretty quiet, but I'm tempted to unplug it (pull passenger fender liner and unplug it) just to see how it sounds without it... It honestly doesn't bother me at all though

I like that pedestrian alert sound. It would be cool if you can change the sounds. Like an opera choir, a knockoff of the audi e tron sound, a tron light cycle, etc.

Hahahahaha that screeching sound sounds like a failing electric motor! I would think most people would disconnect those speakers ASAP!

Correct, Just got my model 3, immediately found a video to disconnect it. All I had to do was pop off 3 plastic rivets and disconnect the speaker. Easy.

@@pmoneys007 Honestly in Chicago or anywhere else for that matter cops aren't going to be paying attention to what car is what sitting in slow moving traffic unless they are looking for a specific vehicle related to a crime call. If a cop was sitting in a car in the middle lane stopped with the windows down (only happens on a perfect day) and a Tesla rolls past on one side and another late model ICE vehicle rolls past on the other side they wouldn't be able to tell which car is electric or a ICE vehicle because neither of them make any sound at slow speeds. They are more likely to write a ticket to a Tesla with those silly sound makers because of the annoying screeching sounds it's making. A ticket to get the car fixed!

PWS stops after 20 mph so no.

I have not found any way to adjust or disable the PWS using the screen/software.

EVs and hybrids with an EV mode are so quiet, pedestrians don't notice them moving. Pedestrians have been injured and killed, because they assumed they'd be able to hear a car coming. This is a safety mechanism required by law to make sure people hear otherwise-quiet cars coming. (We should also train people to use their eyes and not just their ears.)

I really hate that. The reverse isnt bad. But fuck me that forward noise is terrible. One of the major appeals is the silence. Bad move tesla

I think it's more geared towards the blind, which is crap too. Because the blind have more acute hearing than the rest of us. And because most modern ICE vehicles are just as quiet at slow speeds and they aren't required to have this noice maker.

@@Resist4 not only that but there's roughly 1 million blind people in the US. How many of those cross streets? and how many of those cross streets alone? I'm sure it's a minuscule amount. Plus Tesla's detect people in front of them and would/should stop.

Pfff my Model 3 will have this system. I don’t want these silly sounds! It’s invented by pencil lickers! Never encountered a problem with my phev in electric mode in the past years!
