A truly historic route taking in the ruins of 4 amazing abbeys. The circular route of around 110 kilometres is another one of Scotland's Great Trails, and can be started at any point. We choose Melrose as this is where John Smith, my running partner for the day, lives. A hugely varied route, initially with a fair amount of road sections but this soon turned to fabulous trails, rural tracks and muddy paths. This would be the first time John had ever attempted to break 100k, indeed the furthest he'd ran previous to this was 55k!

Thank you! Yes it was great to see (most of them) on a nice sunny day. Guess would be nice to go back and take time to explore them more!

Brilliant! It's a nice and varied route, with plenty opportunities to fuel up in all the towns it passes through. Hopefully you get a run of dry weather before otherwise certain bits can be pretty wet underfoot! Good luck!
