Oh, great! I was just going to make a comment on that. However, it's not pronounced Warsaw, either. It's tricky. I remember it from an insurance commercial from years ago. You should call someone there and have them pronounce it for you.

While I empathize with the pain of the parent I agree prosecuting someone who by chance created a story that just happens to somewhat match up to your painful experience is unarguably irrational as we would then have to pour back through every serial killer inspired work and prosecute all those creators too. Just think of it as someone lashing out emotionally and not logically as tends to happen when someone is in pain

You know what. In this case, id bet my life if i had to choose between a wes or no that Kevin absolutely was involved. However, i do unofficial "ubers" for alot of my friends and there friends who i dont know. Im reminded of a situation where i agreed to pick up this chick who i allowed to smoke what i thought was a regular blunt in my car as i drove her where she was going (at like 2:30am after she was partying etc with my friends). Weeeell.... The fucking blunt (thankfully i dont smoke anymore cause i wouldve been tripping) was a dust blunt (angel dust). It caused her to act completely retarded. She kept saying go straight go straight go straight and eventually we ended up waaay far away from where i found out she was going smh. Anyways i was irritated and tired so i made her stop smoking and sober up enough to give me an address exactly where she was going. We get there and its this sketchy looking pull off by a river where trailer trucks where parked. I finally felt i couldn't just babysit forever so after i repeatedly asked why she was getting off there and didnt get a clear response, i said whatever then please be careful and have a good night. She got out and i left. I felt kind of bad after but wtf could i have done? Thats where she was determined to be dropped off (i actually saw her afterwards so it was ok) but if something happened and i was questioned, id probably have looked really suspicious because i didnt stay and wait to see what direction she went after she got out.

Really? I know someone whose aunt dropped her off at a relative's house without checking if that relative was home before driving off. They weren't and she had to come down to my house to use the phone to call her Mom. According to you, if she had gone missing, the aunt must've done it when in actuality, it would've been someone else. I do agree that it was Kevin but not for the reason you gave.

@@jessicamilestone4026 I've seen this type of parent way too often, very permissive because either they want to be considered as a friend who remembers when they were teens or they are overconfident in their early child rearing skills to the point they trust the kid to make good decisions. I on the other hand was more of the prison guard parent, at least that's what my daughter said at the time. But she made it through her teen years unscarred and unscathed by unfortunate but entirely predictable events that many of her peers fell victim to. The world post internet is very different from pre internet when if you got a phone call everyone in the house knew it. It was very difficult for adults to gain access to teens or for teens to make plans without anyone knowing what they are up to. I'll admit I tried to allow her more freedom coming into junior high school but that quickly had to change when I found out what was happening on Facebook and Instagram where she and I assume all of the girls in her friends list were getting sexual propositions from men even in their 40's and some girls were being blackmailed because they had been foolish enough to send naked photos to older boys they met online. I'm glad to say she now realizes how lucky she was to have the scariest dad in he class.

Hell, there are people in prison simply because they weren't able to prove definitively that they didn't do it but no evidence at all that they did it. It really depends on the jury but the cops actually have to charge someone. If he went to court being the last person that saw her, claiming to have dropped her at a condemned house and with the cadaver dog response, there are definitely juries that wold find him guilty. I don't agree that thry should- while I think he's likely involved that's not enough evidence for me to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt- juries have convicted with much less.

I'm extremely surprized anyone was able to believe that was in any way real even for a second. The dude was clearly overacting, although some may see that as just being creepy. Then he posts the video on RU-vid? What would be the point of that? Then he said he met her at the mall. Nothing in the investigation even remotely implied she was anywhere near a mall for any reason. Next, the girl starts crying right when the door opens, as if that's the cue to start her part. Any real girl would have been crying long before he opened the door or the moment they started hearing him unlock it, not right when the door opened. If it were around the time of her disappearance it would still be unbelievable, but timing would be worth noting. However it was a full 7 years after she disappeared and, despite the low quality of the image, she still seemed to be in good shape which would be very odd for someone held in captivity. Not underfed, not overweight, no visible scars or injuries, all while being held against her will for 7 years. Her hair was also in extremely great shape, something that usually takes a long time and a lot of care, much unlike what you'd expect from someone held captive against her will for 7 years. She even still seems to have some sort of eyeliner on. Very unlikely. Lastly, the dude closes the door while it's still completely dark in there. No matter what he planned to do with the girl, even a perp would want some sort of a light on if he was in a private area. There could be individual explanations for one or two of these, but all of those together really scream it's fake. The only other thing to go on is this girl in a poorly lit low quality video may have slightly looked like her, even though the girl looks extremely basic. It seemed to be just as believable as a generic creepypasta. I'm very surprized this was able to be taken seriously.

Regarding your last statement about it being odd to stop helping the investigation if you're innocent, I disagree. For one thing, if you're innocent and already gave them the truth, anything else you say doesn't really help the investigation. Often it's just repeated interrogations asking the same questions to get you to say something inconsistent. Which leads to the second and bigger point: if you are one of the prime suspects you should absolutely lawyer up and stop talking, especially if you're innocent. We see it all the time, cops get tunnel vision on someone and selectively interpret evidence. If you keep talking, eventually you will mess up some minor detail and now that's something they can use against you even though you did nothing wrong.

You are completely right about this. I have read about a story of an auxiliary cop having his entire life ruined by a DA and two detectives. They would go around town telling everyone that would listen that they had all sorts of evidence and DNA evidence to link him to the rape and murder of a young girl. The problem was they had no evidence what so ever linking him to the crime. He messed up his alibi and that is why they were convinced that he did it. They turned the entire town against him. He was fired from his job. His wife divorced him and took their kids away. He was convicted of perjury and sentenced for two years in prison. A man in the other town tried to take another young girl but she was able to escape. This man would later confess to the rape and murder of the girl found by the cop. Despite that, the DA, detective, and the people in that town continue to believe the cop had a hand in the young girls death even though he was proved to be innocent of the crime. In the end he had to leave town and start completely over by himself. He was only guilty of finding this poor young girl body and calling it in. Truly sickening what a couple of shitty cops and an even shittier arrogant DA can do to you.

Police are extremely lazy and not very bright. It's imperative that you get a lawyer or just refuse to talk as soon as police question you about a crime, even if they're pretending that they only are looking for help they are looking to pin the crime on someone ASAP. They don't care who gets the rap because they think everyone is guilty of something. That's just the way they think. I believe half the unsolved cases out there are actually by police because a cop would never think to suspect another cop. They're the good guys and everyone else are the bad guys.

I couldn't agree more, Ana Morel. I have deep sympathy for Kayla's mother, it must be particularly brutal having to live with the fact that the scumbags who exploited (in my opinion) her daughter in life, are now almost certainly withholding information about her death, but it's not entirely fair for her to condemn these filmmakers, as if they purposely "pranked" her (which they clearly didn't). It's such a pronounced example of cognitive dissonance I have to wonder if she's been fed false information about the origin of the tape (ie, no one initially explained to her it was very likely fake). No matter how deep her grief, it makes no sense to believe it was "aimed" specifically at her or this case. All that said, I hate to sound like a jackboot fascist, but I would love 15 minutes alone with Kevin/Miguel in a soundproof room with 2 chairs and a phone book. *wham*

I get the mom being upset, thinking someone had been holding her daughter captive all that time combined with the high hopes that her daughter had been found, but come on. There was no prank. It had nothing to do with Kayla, and probably hundreds of films are released around the world every year with similar and much worse scenes about which no one thinks twice. That it was on RU-vid (and obviously amature) instead of showing on TV or the local multiplex doesn't suddenly mean it's criminal or even immoral. I do think it was pretty low for Inside Edition to jump on this and try to sensationalize it. Then again, that was kind of their thing so go figure. It's just sad this mom and those actors in the video were both used by the media. I can only imagine the shit storm the creators and actors had to endure once their video became a news story. I hope someday Kayla's family at least finds out what happened to their daughter and sister.

Exactly, I totally agree. Her overreaction is totally understandable considering her years of anguish & not knowing anything all these years. The amateur filmmakers never intended to compound her suffering. They said they weren’t even aware of Kayla’s case. It’s no different than a horror film made commercially or independently & based on a similar subject matter that’s available to watch. I’m sure they felt just awful about how their little film affected Kayla’s mother.

Imagine making a dumb horror video and then 7 years later it's connected by pure chance to a missing girl? I feel bad for everyone involved, including the mother. Yes, she lashed out irrationally but she should never have had to view that video. Simple fact checking verified it was fake and the actress is very much alive. There was no need to subject a grieving mother to its contents. Whoever decided that was ok should be apologizing.
@jaynestrange
@jaynestrange 3 года назад
And as far as I can tell, the horror video didn't even have anything to do with Kayla other than being about a kidnapped girl. The actress really looks nothing like her, it seems to be about a woman kidnapped from a mall by a stranger while Kayla went missing after spending time with friends . . . Not to mention the guy's acting is kinda mediocre. Surely even a quick look at the channel would show that it's not real. Any grief it cause the family is 100% on the people who decided to make a big deal out of it before doing any research.

@squid iddly Please explain to me how them making that video was fucked up? I mean they were *amateur short horror film makers* ffs, that's kind of the point for them making it. Not to mention it was one of a *series of videos* that they made, they were all different and didn't all focus on the exact same subject. Also, they never said/gave any "hints" that the person in the video was Kayla or that it was a skit based off of Kayla's disappearance. Hell they most likely didn't even know about the case of the missing girl at the time. Ever heard of ARG's and peoples growing fascination with them? I can't remember the name of that "newer" one that came out, was either "vanishing sun" or "where did the sun go" or something like that. Can't remember and simply too lazy to google it lol. Anyways, all I'm trying to get at is that shit like this happens all the time. Just because someone that's desperate to find their loved one ends up seeing a video that makes them gain false hope/believe that they finally found said person that is missing, (not that I blame them for feeling that way) ends up realizing that the person in the video wasn't actually them, doesn't warrant the family calling for those involved to be convicted. To me I don't think blaming the poster and claiming that it was made as a "prank" or "to deceive them" is the right thing to do. At least imo that is.

Remember when Kelsey Berreth went missing? Or Mollie Tibbett? Both received national attention and they weren't the only ones. So yes, people in the media would've thought Kayla when they saw a woman who bore a resemblance to a missing woman that looked like her. There are people who still believe that Kate Yup is the still missing Karlie Guse because of a perceived resemblance.

@Nick Hord It doesn't matter. Those kids weren't targeting her or her family. I can understand that she took it personally at first because she thought it looked like her daughter but after it was confirmed that it wasn't her and that those people didn't even know of her or her daughter's disappearance (which is likely - they were in NY and she was in Wisconsin) then it's time to move on

When you have a missing family member, you have to check out every possibility. Boohoo, he was suspected of a crime and was found innocent, big deal, didn't have much effect on his life other than making his crappy little video more popular, giving him the fame he had wanted. That mom lost her daughter. She has every right to look into any video that has someone who looks like her daughter. If she hadn't had that video checked out, all of you would be in here complaining how stupid everyone is not to look into it. You all just want to complain and whine and insult others. You have no idea what it's like to have a murdered family member as some of us do.

To be fair to the parents, they're emotional about their missing kids. Hopefully they've had a chance to calm down and realize the videographers meant no harm. How would kids from upstate NY even know about a Wisconsin missing person's case? Now this Kevin fella........

Technology was much different and far less developed when Kayla disappeared in 2009. Also she was from/in a very small town. Antigo Wisconsin had a population of about 8,000 people at that time. It would be highly unlikely the town's leaders would be spending money - from their very small budget - on aurvellience systems.

There is a trope in true crime videos that is really starting to get to me. "It seems weird that the significant other wouldnt want to help find the person." Its a well known fact that the significant other is always suspect number one and that is for a reason. I know that if my wife disappeared, I would be putting out flyers and pursuing other avenues to find out where she is, but I would lawyer up immediately and I would absolutely refuse to say anything but "Attorney" to anyone vaguely resembling law enforcement. That isnt weird. That is simple common sense. All you will get from cops as a significant other is framed (or caught) with the crime.
@CelticVictory
@CelticVictory 4 года назад
The issue is that Kevin didn't try to do everything to find her.
@coalblooded
@coalblooded 3 года назад
One thing that I've noticed, too, is that sometimes it seems like there's a catch-22 for the significant other or even friends of the missing person/victim. On one hand, if you are super cooperative with law enforcement, don't ask for an attorney, help in the search, try to be as much in-the-loop about any new breaks in the case, etc., then you could be seen as the Bad Guy. On the other hand, if you hire an attorney (just being smart, as you mentioned), want privacy while you grieve/mourn, don't want to be harassed by LEOs, etc., then you're *also* seen as the Bad Guy. It's a scary situation that I sure as hell wouldn't want to be in (for numerous reasons, obviously).

11:55 Sadly, I'd have to disagree. Once the media gets their hands on the story it becomes a public invitation of "who done it" with popcorn to eat and tomatoes to throw. You can be innocent in the court but guilty in the public. It's kind of an unwritten rule never to talk to the police w/out a lawyer. Hence The Fifth Amendment "The Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the accused from being forced to incriminate themselves in a crime"
