So, serious reflection on the game: -It was long but really fun since it kept seesawing in both directions. -Yeah, I held the right flank with tons of casualties; along the way figuring out proper spacing for units advancing across open ground in order to challenge the OpFor push. -Yeah, I ran out of units at the end leading to the flank suffering a total collapse. -Need to move AA about but it's hard when cover is limited; Also due to proximity to OpFor edge, I kept getting bombarded. -Start of the game, OpFor threw weight on our Mid and Left; not confident enough/caught offguard and didn't push hard enough. -Still haven't figured out Air combat -Microed units about to grab the flag on right of the "town"; duelling with other infantry units at times. -Definitely frustrating throughout the game being unable to respond to the OpFor air but that's due to my forces being so far up I can't respond in time and my AA being prioritised as soon as they knew where it was. -Should have used smoke much more when pushing up; bad habit from COH2 where I use artillery to kill and suppress, almost never using smoke. -Don't use "fire at will" with mortars; they chew up all your munitions before you realise it. (oops, and we only had a couple of munitions trucks each) -Ran out of units due to trying to constantly contest the point; maybe in the future tone down the aggressive moves if it looks to be turning into a long game? -At one point(hour mark?) Vulcan notes to "play conservatively"; interpreted it as "stop advancing, hold position". -held position for dear life. This was definitely my favourite game so far into the MP campaign; a brutal and bloody affair where different tactics clashed. [also maybe because Vulcan kept saying, "Good Job Lykas" ;) ]

@@tedarcher9120 So right now, in the MP campaign, we're provided with specific decks to use as shown in the start of the video; We don't get much choice in what they are made up of apart from balancing suggestions. As you can see, Happy and I didn't get 88s but were provided with 20mms and their transports which were also AA halftracks.

Lykas, you may have had a rough time but a lot of that loss has got to be on ineffective/novice tank command, he just didnt use orders properly or pay attebtion to where he was getting hit. AT was all over the right hill on the left flank firing across into the far left hill, but no one smoked, or oriented armor to that threat.

@@karrackhalcyon8826 I don't think that's a fair statment; they were fighting the entire weight of the OpFor on the left for a lot of the game, this was discussed in our post-game debrief/banter with the OpFor players that's not shown here. Fedakyn was facing a lot more ground units than I was; I was just getting bombarded and air-striked all the way.

Lykas, i wasnt discounting that, and i wasnt trying to be mean or unfair, he did have a massive numbers issue on the left, what im saying is that he plain simply didnt use the tanks correctly, and vulcan didnt catch it either until the end of the game where he microd some of his movments. Also neither of them seemed to see that more central hill wailing on them. Just an outsiders view point, and definitely filled with hindsight vision

@@Lykas_mitts Late to the party here, but I think that's a fair statement. In this game Panthers and tigers were chewed up like mad by T-34s. Something doesn't add up when that happens. Either tactics, either micro, either a mix of them can be blamed on it,but the results speaks for themselves. Well managed german armor in proper numbers does NOT lose against soviet armor even if soviet armor is vastly superior in numbers. It's pretty much an undeniable fact - yet in this game german armor was pretty much massacred by soviet armor. So the obvious thing here is that said german armor was very poorly managed. Tank spacing on the player who managed the tanks' side was nonexistant, and distancing was constantly ignored, putting his tanks on ranges that favor soviet armor instead of holding them off at range and killing them that way. He kept on giving group orders and random move to attack orders instead of microing the situation giving individual orders to each of his tanks. He wasn't conscious of when his vital armor units were being fired by dangerous stuff until warned by other players (Usually Vulcan, and by then of course it was late). And finally, he was constantly relying on Vulcan's orders to act, and doing so poorly and late, instead of taking correct decisions by himself, which costed more tanks than I can remember. Have to add that Vulcan's insistance on the left hill at the early/mid game probably costed you the battle. Vulcan knew what was up there and what happens when german armor knife fights soviet massed tanks, and still insisted on going up in what was a losing proposition no matter what. I also found kinda infuriating that for the most part of the game the soviets had a flag in the middle of the front (the middle one between towns, in the woods), Vulcan had literally all the artillery in the world, and instead of pounding those woods into oblivion and then moving infantry in afterwards, he constantly sent infantry in gung-ho style while artying tanks in the back lines (though I understand that's a product of Eugen's horrible design job in this game allowing for artillery to be so stupidly effective against tanks - they end up being a much more attractive target to shoot and kill, but it was still an awful tactical choice). Of course that didn't fly. That flag should've been yours for the whole of the game, you only took it much later (on a motorcycle rush of all things). as for what I saw from you this game, you might have been a bit too conservative but you also did a top notch job in taking that much ground and holding it at any cost. You might have done more to win this game, but for sure you weren't the reason why it was lost. The times the camera was looking at your side all I saw was correct tactical placement, good use of units and overall success in doing what you were supposed to do at each moment (be it holding against the enemy attacks, arty and planes, be it taking an objective when told, be it whatever it was, you were doing it). It was only when you ran out of stuff when things went FUBAR, but by that time the battle should've been over had the other players in your team performed at your level. Which, they didn't (Vulcan might have gotten the biggest KDR but that's hardly a thing when he had so much arty. His tactical leadership on the left and mid left a lot to be desired in this one, IMHO, and conquest is not won by whoever kills the most stuff anyway). That's what I saw here, at least. Again, I know I'm kinda late to the party but well, gotta answer when I see things, lol ;).

So I know I have three more comments on this video than I had units on the field in this game, but I just felt compelled to analyze this battle in detail because it is absolutely the greatest effort I've ever seen in a SD game, and it demands analysis: 1. This game was won by force ratio above all. The Russians prepared for a long game and stacked their C-phase decks to incredible levels. At 1:16:00, the way they were throwing away units to take the center town was a clear indication of how much shit they had left. I knew the game was over for the Germans when I saw the Russians carelessly fritter away at least 3000 points worth of units before they had even unloaded. 2. There was no concerted, united German offensive plan (or general battle plan for that matter) until Vulcan hurriedly organized the counter-push on the center hill at around 1:28:00. 3. The sheer mass of each major Russian push clearly showed that all four players were involved in each operation. It never appeared as if one player was holding a side and another the middle, while only two of their players concentrated forces for a strategic offensive. 4. It felt like all of Mother Russia flooded into that center town in the five minutes between 1:16:00 and 1:21:00. But what truly sealed the victory was the fact that they KEPT flooding it even after suffering incredible losses (just watch the suicidal infantry push at 1:22:00. Zero fucks given). They never abandoned the center push until it was decisively taken. So this point appends and connects the two previous points: have a clear plan of action, commit all players to it and do not abandon it until success has been proven impossible. 5. In my opinion, the greatest value of a commander in a 4v4 match like this would simply be to establish a high-level course of operation and establish the key objectives for each player within that operation, while leaving the tactical engagements to the subordinates. I know this may seem overly-critical of Vulcan, but I know he had no choice. He was giving critical, tactical advice to less-experienced teammates (no offense to you warriors either, you all played admirably), which undoubtedly saved countless, valuable units from certain destruction (i.e. stopping the Tigers on the left hill until the infantry moved up, shifting unused mobile contingents from the left to the center to clot the hemorrhaging, etc.) Anyways, it was the most entertaining, heart-pumping catastrophe I've ever witnessed in pixelated form. After playing this game a lot (and I mean a lot), I truly respect the focus and energy it takes to endure a slogging match like this. Hats off to all of you. Sincerely. - Grant (SD2: TheBlackArmy)

Every time Vulcan had to direct Happy as to what to do, answer was always "right". How Happy didn't pay that much attention to his own front as Vulcan did is a mystery to me... Great job Vulcan !!!

what an epic game. Enjoyable to watch, and well played all. Good to see tactics employed like distraction by a unit to enable others to shoot vehicles in the side. What a meat grinder of a game. More please !

Im new to SD2 but i played 100+ hours to Wargame, first of all this was a FANTASTIC game. Second, im a late game player and i think that u must micro a litle bit more when the game goes like this, why i say that?.....When u are rushing all around from the start its logical that u dont pay attetion to some units(not early unload, not revers when its needed). My tip is that, think always that a game is going to be like this one, so take care about your units so you can survive more. That was with no offence of course!!!! You are a dam good player Vulcan keep up the videos!! :)

I do wish the battlefield could be impacted more. Watching a bridge be used over and over again after being ingulfed in several massive explosions is a little ridiculous. You can destroy some cover, but the roads and bridges don't seem to be impacted by anything. I don't know if it's a limitation of the engine or a lack of interest in development on that end, but it would make it a lot more immersive if there were ways to change the battlefield more to your advantage.

The declining player base is mostly due to players like myself, who don't want to spend months playing a single game to get on the same level as the players who have been around since the beginning. I picked up the game early, but due to my work schedule, assuming this is the only game I play, I could maybe put in 20 hours a week. Now there isn't a point playing because you just get steamrolled by players with thousands of hours in the game that know every unit and map. I only play when I've got friends on and we do some 2v2's or 3v3's.
