I was thinking about why I prefer some enemies over others, and I realized that it doesn't really have anything to do with how difficult an enemy is. These are all my thoughts on the feeling of fighting in this game.

Now that I think about people would go for crit hit more if there was and sound indication for it. Just imaging not only seeing big numbers but, also hear a beautiful discharge sound every time you crit. The elation of such sound would definitely make me value crits more often.

I think remember them adding enemy kill confirm sound effects back around 3.0. Before the change it was disorienting when you killed an enemy offscreen midcombo and are now hitting air. I too wish they'd add crit sounds.

Hoyoverse said that for Fontaine, they want to focus on the technical side of the game, like polishing certain systems. However, they said that in Natlan, they will focus on combat. Not only is this a way to make it more enjoyable (like improve the weekly bosses because they are all poo), but it could also potentially revamp the Geo element :D

@@deannaburke4242 There's a lot of things they have to fix with the game's combat. The biggest problem with physical (and geo to an extent), is their inability to break elemental shields. So rather than a superconduct buff, they should rethink how the damage type should work

@@Uefeti Its trash, thats why. Not only does it have a useless reaction, it also has only one, which further limits teambuilding. Like, you are asking if you don't know why people call it horrible 🤣 If it just got better, there would be SO many more interesting team combinations, considering that the Geo characters themselves aren't bad

@@Uefeti Because it limits characters, and its overall missed potential. One other problem is that, the game's combat is built around elemental reactions. And even then, the role is already filled by physical damage. Geo ending up like this wasn't intentional, Hoyoverse was still experimenting with this type of combat when Genshin came out. Maybe in Natlan, they fix some issues

5:26 this actually makes sense because I feel a wierd satisfaction when I kill a sumpter beast and seeing it explode into free raw meats

I think your points are interesting. But the flaw in the sound bit is that you'll never hear it. When I personally want a character I pre-farm for them. All that progress immediately skipped. I would have never found the satisfaction in the grind. Or simply don't use characters.

It would be more noticeable between different characters. Claymores would overall sound stronger than, say, catalyst users.

It's not just that tho. When you switch to a character their vision will glow up and make noise for a split second, which you won't notice if the camera ain't up their ass.

The problem is that theres some balancing issues with physical, singular character kits and geo (even tho itto is just the best) but even then if it was just that it wouldnt be too bad actually ... the biggest problem with combat is that we have no where to test our skills and builds. Yes yes ... no fucking end gameeeeeeee. But other than that i agree that the sound effects are to be worked on lol. They did add a "crit" sound that kinda get lost in the mess of sounds. Im not kidding .. compare the sound of crit and non crit ... they added a high pitch slash sound thingy. Its ass 😂

The real problem is the fact that Elemental Mastery was nerfed during beta 1 of the game as well as fixed stats, however nothing was done to character's kits and artifact sets. Elemental Mastery used to give elemental DMG bonuses as well as reaction damage, Keqing and Lisa were very powerful because of that. This feature was removed in order to balance the Goblet pieces, in which almost no other Goblet was worth using over EM, save for very specific cases. And fixed stats used to contribute to base values, which means they'd be multiplied by the percentual versions much like the character's base values. Lots of characters were screwed over by these changes, but their "no change allowed" approach to characters made it so if a character got royally screwed by an overzealous nerf, then that character is permanently dead because they certainly aren't going to buff it or redesign their kit. Same for 90% of Geo characters who has the main part of their kits immediately destroyed by bosses because of poorly made pathing, basically, Geo constructs tend to break enemy pathing which would cause problems such as enemies failing to get close to players or players managing to lock them in place. That is the reason behind geo structures being one shot by most bosses. To the detriment of Geo characters instead. So it's not fair for bosses to be trivialized, but it's totally ok for a character to become a dead slot on the team because they won't do the right thing and redesign these characters.

I will make a claim, which I hope you will view and comment on, Raymouse. I'd like to read your thoughts on this. My claim is, despite most people not realising it, it's the added 'OOMPH' from the soundeffect of Navia's E in addition to the big number that makes Navia so satisfying to use. I would claim, that the soundeffect of the Gunbrella going off is a big reason why many players, who cannot put their feelings into words, were surprised to find her so much more satisfying to use than they initially expected. I agree with you on every point you made. Subscribed. To underline your argument about sounds adding to satisfying combat, the developers of Horizon Zero Dawn paid a lot of attention to Aloy's Bow Sound Design. They realised this relationship and even released a video about it called "Why Horizon Zero Dawn's Bow feels good to use | Game Mechanics Explained" by Polygon.

I've never played horizon zero dawn, but yeah I agree with what you're saying about navias E. On top of it, I know burst damage, especially high risk high reward situations, tend to result in an overall positive experience for the player. Even if they miss, the potential and anticipation for when the skill comes back can be exciting by itself.

I don't know, I couldn't immediately tell which of the smash sounds is the strongest. I could have made arguements for all of them. I feel like that is a bit of bias there since you know what these sounds mean (I mean I have seen a bit of Smash in the past, but was never really into it, so I couldn't tell which sound is which is what I am trying to say). Not saying that Genshin sounds couldn't be better, but I think, it's the combination that makes the package and not the sound alone. But I also don't know many RPGs where the sound your attack makes, changes depending on your level. It's nearly always the attack itself that makes the sound. Take Witcher 3 as an example. Doesn't matter if I use my best or weakest sword, they sound the same and that's what most RPGs do. Smash just doesn't have levels.

1:42 I'm confused here. You say it's the fourth one but did you not add the two from the last hit together? The last hit is two hits of 132 each for a total of 264 whereas the first one is only 206..

Sorry about the confusion lol, but I'm just talking about the individual hits, not the overall attack. Yes overall it has the highest scaling, but the 1 attack has 2 very distinct hits, so it's still off-putting to me.

Yes. Add health bar chunk noises so when you deal like 10% of an enemy's HP in one hit, you get the shmeaty noise. And let us hitstun enemies with damage not just poise

Tbh, i wish they did something with the Def stat. Like you'd think its a must have stat for support shielders but nope,every shielder just uses max hp, like why even have def% main stat on artifacts if its only ever wanted on 1 set (husk). Def is the most useless and underused stat in the game

I think you didn't even pick te worst example about the feel of Eula's hit. Her final burst popping off, the thing that does the most damage of her entire kit, the thing your entire rotation builds up towards...it's the tiniest 'pop', blink and you'll miss it. It took me weeks to even notice that that weak 'pop' was actually the final burst hit, it's that underwhelming in terms of game feel.

well yt random algo hits again but ya ur right the combat doesn't feel like "combat". its so simple + no endgame + many units having 0 synergy bad or useless ultimates etc no past units buffs no kit reworks like its the laziest company i have ever seen lol
