www.thegigrig.c... In this demo I'm going to show you just how easy it is to control MIDI capable pedals from G2. The G2 can control or be controlled by any external MIDI device, even an iPad.
Thanks sir Toneshack. tonally, no, the Mobius does not have the same quality as the AM or the Hartman, so no, it hasn't replaced them. It DOES however have some really great sounds that are totally worthy of the purchase price.
HI Luis. I ended up making these myself, just getting some decent cable and connectors from Maplins, but if you look on Amazon there are places that sell right angled midi leads ;)
Hey, this is easy stuff; I thought midi was complicated! So the midi in just pushing foot switches that select combinations of loops etc, no setting up; brilliant. Also, I like the idea of having an individual echo sound for each foot switch, Dan buddy, your on a role! What will the next demo reveal, a built in tea making machine??
Hey Dan, this is a great video. What is missing is how to setup the G2 initially to send all of the midi parameters to the Strymon pedals for the desired sound. You showed us how to change the sounds on the strymon pedals but not the initial setup.
@@jcshirke Let me know if you hear anything on the video. thanks! also, I have a Source Audio Ventris and Nemesis and a G2. none of the pedals have digital displays. I'm a MIDI novice and need guidance on how to set all this up.
There is one HIDDEN preset per bank, so you can get back to it from any footswitch. That can be your bypass tone, your tuner, anything you like. BUT the hidden preset cant be set up in stomp box mode. just set up any footswitch with your KEELY BOOSTER in stomp box mode and that will give you what you're looking for ;)
Hi Reece, its an M-Audio usb to MIDI cable connected to the iPad. Thought about having it wireless but what if someone blue toothed into your G2 while you were playing. eek ;) Thanks Reece
G2 is awesome and this video useful if you have Strymon pedals. If you have other pedals (Boss, TC, Digitech for instance) you are going to need to buy a Midi remapper for a couple of hundred dollars. So not quite as simple as suggested here.
This is a great demo, and a really cool piece of gear! Could you please give me some details about the rest of that board, and the board itself? I have a very similar rig, and that is a great looking board. I know that its a hinged design, so what's under the hood? :)
Great video. Do you have a video on how to set up the GigRig G2 MIDI with the Positive Bias Pro Pedals ( I have all three pedals) and Amps (I have the rack amp and the mini amp)? The pedals have 20 presets divided up into 2 banks so not sure how to access the second bank
The problem that have is when i setup the Big Sky, TimeLine and Mobius, they only move together in the CH1, they don't move in an independent Channel. Not sure why.
Hi Daniel, great video and thanks for the explanation. I noticed that you save a new sound from the Mobius into G2 by selecting a new engine with the TYPE button and tweak that. However, what if I am in preset 1 on my G2, the Mobius will be automatically selected to BANK 00B. What if from here I want to select another preset I already saved under (say) BANK 03B, I cannot save that to Preset 1 (at least not the way you show it in this video). I did try it under SF7 function, but then after saving it brings it to a different bank in my Mobius, hence overwriting an existing sound. Hope you can help. Best, Bob
Hi there, I am hesitating between buying this switching system or another made in japan (you probably know which one). Each one has its own strenghts, but definitely the G2 has more features than its counterpart. The iPad thing is incredible, please, show us more and convince the ones like me who are still trying to make a decision.
HI, well far be it from me to try and convince you to buy a G2. It comes down to what you want to achieve. G2 is completely unique. Everything else is basically a rip off of our first unit, the Pro14. G2 is the next level. More demos on the way.
Daniel TheGigRig Thank you for your quick response. You also mention the possibility to unattached the back panel in order to play on stage only with G2 while the rest of the pedalboard is elsewhere. Could you please address that topic in your next video? Thank you!
Help me,Dan! G2 can not set pc or cc ?For Example,if i want put same set of Timeline on preset 1 2 and 6(bank1),now i must save 3 times in different position of Timeine...How to just recall the same Timeline's preset by G2? The PC is constant? That Confuses me...Maybe the StompBox can fix it,but i should tap twice footswitch, that's complex
This could be the solution I'm looking for for years now :) I've studied the manual and I understand that there is a possibility to store a "hidden" preset, If you stomp de selected program once more. Is this possible for every preset/ program? I'm imagining the following: I've got a clean booster (Keeley); is it possible to create a solo switch/ boost for every program, by creating a hidden preset in which I make the same program as the "original" but with (only) the clean booster engaged?
Hi Daniel, I read the manual and watch the videos and still are a bit confused... there is no need to choose midi channels on the G2? And how about the PC and CC, how does it work? Can I set the footswitchs to access the loop functions of the Timeline. Thank you, cheers from Brazil.
I've connected a Big Sky to the G2 but Big Sky channels do not change the right way when I change presets on G2. So, what are the Global settings in Big Sky for Midi Channel (Ch 1 - 16), Midi continuous controllers (On - Off), Midi Patch Change (On - Off) and Midi Through (On - Off)? I've got Midi Channel 1 and everything On, I've also tried Midi Through Off since that's the only midi device. But it doesn't work. I've also checked out the midi cable and its connection. Thanks!
+Toni Martínez Robles I've tried to edit the presets on Big Sky so that when G2 changes it goes to that preset but it doesn't get saved and G2 remains calling for a different and wrong Big Sky preset.
Hi Toni. 2 things, once you've selected the preset on G2, you need to edit and save the corresponding preset on the Big Sky. If you change the preset on the bigsky it's not going to work. You need to edit the corresponding preset on the Big Sky. You can midi map on the big sky, there's s video on our Facebook page showing you how to do it. Make fire you have the latest firmware in your bigsky. For any more help please contact joe@thegigrig.com and he'll get you sorted :)
Hey Daniel, I'm currently running a boss ms3, but have an Eventide H9,Hx effects, Adrenlinn 3 and BigSky...but thinking a gigrig might suit better, is there a Nz stockist for Gigrig?
Hi Dan! I need to send midi time code from my computer to my timeline in order to sync with my session, do I have to set up something inside my timeline? thank you very much in advance!
Is there a way to have foe example both the mobius and the timeline to be in preset mode and stompbox mode? For example there maybe times where I need both activated (as well as other loops) all in one button push, but also there are times where I may have a drive setting on and just want to add in a phaser with the stompbox mode for example.
Hi Jeff. Sure, just have all the footswitches in MIDI channel 1. This does present problems when you're doubling up so if you have a Timeline preset already in the mix, when you hit the mobius preset, it will change the timeline as well, but it can be done
Daniel TheGigRig But I though that the MIDI has to be in channel 2 for the device to work? Still a little confused. So are you saying that I cannot do the stombox mode and just have to only use the preset mode?
I'm running my Mobius, Timeline and Big Sky and getting a little frustrated with it cause the patches on my pedals don't seem to save the way I want them to. In rehearsal yesterday I was having to constantly tell the big sky I didn't want the cloud reverb (that I use on a clean sound) I wanted the room reverb (which I have a touch of on my drive sound) but every time I switched to the that preset the reverb was wrong! Like wise I wanted to use a flanger on one preset from the mobius but every time I did when I went back to a sound with a phaser on it the pedal just kept the flanger sound doing. really confused as I have done what the video tells me to do! is there possibly something I have missed?
Hi there. Apart from the TimeLine, the MIDI mapping functions on the Strymons are very limited. Ive talked to Strymon and they are working on it but at the moment when you press a preset the G2 sends a patch change message and the Strymons will all change. From here you edit the presets on the Strymons and press save so that they save to that specific location. So now when you press the same preset on G2 it will recall the presets you just edited and saved. if your getting any different results email me directly and we'll get it sorted for you. G2 sends out standard program patch change info so any issues will be due to the setup on there Strymons ;)
Cheers Daniel, I basically programmed the same reverbs and delays onto multiple strymon patches, then assigned different patches to the different G2 patches. All working now, just took a bit of time copying parameters across but does the job.
+Daniel TheGigRig sorry if this question has been asked and answered already. If Im running a Eventide Timefactor and a Strymon BigSky is it still capable of controlling both?
Can’t believe you haven’t taken this video down yet. It misinforms, you can’t do that with any midi pedal, example tc flashback x4 that only respondse to midi pc change 1,2 and 3
