Watch this if you want your golf swing to be easy, consistent, and powerful. The golf swing can be simple and powerful for the average golfer - it doesn't have to be rocket science. This is a simple move you can do in the golf swing to make it automatic like a robot. When you have an automatic golf swing, your shots are very consistent and you're striking the ball solid. It feels like you can easily repeat the golf swing when you do this golf tip. Do this swing move and hit more greens and fairways (and lower your scores!).

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

Hey, Tom. I suffered from a reverse pivot and a loss of confidence for some years and as a former single handicap player was completely depressed about my golf. Local pros were no help and my golf got to the point that I messed up shots like I’d never played the game before. I saw one of your videos and it struck a chord. I like your straightforward approach, subscribed, followed your pointers and worked hard at the range. From being a hopeless case I gradually, with your teaching and a lot of work started to get game back. Fast forward to today: this week I won my club’s Senior Championship. You’re a part of that, Tom, many thanks for your great teaching!

I am like you currently, only been playing a year but was really enjoying it, shot my best round of 92 and then ever since that round I can't hit a ball, it's like I'm a complete beginner, I'm taking lessons but don't seem to be doing anything, confidence is at an all time low and I'm embarrassed to play :(
@richtfingers
@richtfingers Год назад
@@dantheman2231 Dan, there’ll be probably just a couple of things you are doing wrong, probably pulling and hitting too quick and too hard from the top of the swing. That throws the whole swing off, it’s very common with beginners! Try different teachers, one will click with you and you’ll be off again. And check out Tom Saguto here, he concentrates on the key basics that make all the difference!

@@richtfingers Thanks for the reply! Yeah I know for sure I am trying to hit the ball from the top of my backswing resulting in casting - my pro has pointed this out to me, I just can't seem to get my head to stop doing it, I've tried everything! Going up my swing is fine, it's the coming down that's ruining it - I love golf but this is really stressing me out.

Hey Tom…started following your channel and incorporating the stack and tilt principles about 5 months ago…yes I was a frustrated chopper for the last 10 years when I restarted playing golf..I had 5 different “professional” instructors in those 10 years…still chopping with no real focus on the takeaway…I was rolling my wrist to the inside…creating an over the top, early extension and flipping problem with my swing…it was so evident based on watching your videos and then watching my swing two months ago from a Golftec lesson…the Golftec pro did not think my takeaway was an significant issue..but based on your videos and me watching my swing it was so obvious….so worked on keeping my hands quiet and tilting on my own…what I had to add in terms of “feel” was since I was rolling my arms and wrists to the right as I went in to the backswing..I changed that to feeling like rolling my arms and wrist to the LEFT…or keeping the bucket from tipping water…that takeaway feel of turning arms to the LEFT fixed everything and I am now coming from the inside..no over the top, no early extension and no flipping…just crispy contact all the time…thank you for your no BS instruction …and yes your swing can get so messed up in the first two feet …so focusing on getting the takeaway correct like you have preached makes all the difference in the world…I am proof of your wisdom…thank you

Tom, watching the masters I’ve had an epiphany moment. A lot of us amateur golfers want to be like certain pros, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But people see Bryson’s numbers and want to be carrying the ball like him(don’t we all) but really we barely have the time to play golf much less hit the weights etc like the dude. I mean he hits bombs but he also I’d say benches 405 and squats 500 something. I started watching the way another much smaller golfer was approaching the game. Joaquin Niemann. He was carrying 300 plus all day but his swing was more penetrating not the old tee it high let it fly method. I mean people can do what they want but for me I get more distance on a lower ball flight not as spiny doesn’t get ballooned up. But just thinking more people should watch golf and find a guy and see other things that work.

@@SagutoGolf right now just working on getting her to set wrists a little earlier. She tends to set them real late. Gets into good delivery position on way down however. Thx again
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
@Golfer Guy - From my perspective I would say that is fine as long as she is not contriving or manipulating a wrist hinge in order to force it to happen. I prefer that we confirm a proper grip, straight arms in the takeaway, and good connectivity retained, and then just let the wrists respond on autopilot to the swing motion, the weight of the club, and the naturally occurring folding of the trail arm. This recent episode may help shed some light in this regard: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u7MP6A8wL6Q.html TS
@golferguy1525
@golferguy1525 2 года назад
@@SagutoGolf what happens is instead of setting wrist she tends to bend right elbow to help offset lack of hinge. We use a wrist set tool and she does good with that to position 3 with arm parallel to ground but tends to go back to what is comfortable when tool is not used. She does good with one piece takeaway but would like to see wrists a bit more involved. Gets club nice and square at top though. Hard to describe until you see it. Lot of good things in swing. She will turn 12 in 3 months. Thought it was a strength thing at first but she is strong and hits ball plenty far with good shaft lean.

@SagutoGolf Год назад
I'm glad to know that my lessons are helping you, Charlie! Yes - These swing keys also applies to the driver. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o0xscMyN3v8.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". You mentioned that in your tutor videos, there is like a seeing crash course. Where do I get that. I'm in my 70’s, very short backswing, due to very bad left shoulder ( need replacement, but success rate not good ) Any good advice for short backswing ?
@SagutoGolf

Here's the "Watermelon Drill" YT episode, Gerrit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0lYuJdV1Pbo.html And here is the online school version of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0lYuJdV1Pbo.html You don't need a big backswing to have success (and power) in this swing system. A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion, so my first suggestion would be to review that section of the school in either the Golf Swing Simplified or Get Out and Go Play course. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact and plenty of distance can be built. For more direct interaction on your issue, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with other golfers in the SagutoGolf community. It only takes a minute or two to enroll - just go to your “My Courses” screen and you’ll see a link to get started. Once signed in you’ll be able to access and participate in the great dialogue that we are having on a variety of topics. You can start discussions, contribute to existing threads, post specific swing questions, make some new friends, and just share in the common bond of golfers from around the world seeking to improve their games and help others to do the same. I monitor the forum regularly and participate in the discussions, including assisting with swing-related inquiries. I really think you’ll enjoy it! Tom

Tom I was watching slow motion swings of all the greats. I want your take and maybe a video on this. But they do not look at the ball. Head stays still mostly. Look at their driver swings. It looks like their vision is fixated 3-4 inches behind the ball at their low point. Ball is struck then the look up finally on their follow through. But I for myself am fixated on the ball so my head tends to get over the ball and looking straight at it. It’s like this with all their clubs. Irons it looks like they’re fixated at a spot right around the ball, and wedges are about 2-3 inches looks ahead. You can tell they aren’t looking at the ball because they’re still down on that spot slightly after the ball is struck. I begin to believe they’re fixated on their low point instead of the ball. Also when I’m fixated on the ball sometimes I’ll kind of flinch or stop my follow through.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
I don't know that they're not looking at the ball, but their heads are very still throughout the entire swing motion, just as yours should be if you wish to keep your swing circle intact and not have it morph into a drifting oval. This is what gives the good player excellent low point control, which leads to consistently crispy impact. Here's an older YT episode on keeping the head still: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-84Z4PG-Fgz4.html Really, though, as I've mentioned to you previously the online school is the best place to learn this swing properly and sequentially in a comprehensive, structured environment. Been trying to get my swing more repeatable. Been working with things I see in your videos. I'm hitting more behind the ball location on the divot board, but also noticing minus the random fat shots I swing multiple times not even making contact with the board. I feel the arms straight and not swaying back. I also don't think I'm flipping the wrists, maybe I'm not keeping my chest down? Even though I do feel I am with the shoulder going down at the ball
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Both fat and thin shots are typically caused be the low point shifting backwards, which suggests that you may not be getting your wait forward enough. You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. The part I struggle with is the transition after the take away(clubface feels very closed). It is to my understanding that the right arm bends which keeps the club on plane. In my case it doesn't flow and I seem to have to manipulate the club. What swing thought should I have to "continue" after the takeaway.

LOL! Take my instruction, @Chili Cheeze, and you'll be glad you did!!......😎 Seriously, I'm very glad to have you in the school!! Here's some preliminary advice to help you get off to a good start on your journey to the Land of Ball Striking Bliss: 1) Regardless of a member's skill level, this swing necessitates a complete reboot for someone transitioning from a shift & lift swing (which is typically the case), and therefore it is imperative that one take sufficient time to ensure that the fundamental components are mastered. From the ground up there is nothing superfluous in the Stack & Tilt swing - in other words, everything with a purpose, and a purpose for everything. (For example, contrary to shift & lift where you may be taught to keep your trail foot perpendicular to the target line as a means of "creating resistance" in your trail side, in S&T we flare both feet out 10-20 degrees in order to facilitate a free flowing, inclined hip and shoulder turn.) I cannot emphasize this enough, as frustrations predominantly occur when students jump ahead in the curriculum without properly dedicating themselves to the foundational base upon which our consistently repeatable, powerful, low maintenance swing must be built. Chapter 1 of the Golf Swing Simplified program (GSS) and Part I of Get Out & Go Play (GOGP) both address this. 2a) GSS: One of the many great things about this swing is that you can achieve solid ball striking even at the most basic levels. This is why I oftentimes will suggest that students park themselves on Chapter 2 of the GSS course for an extended period of time after locking down Chapter 1's foundational elements. Chapter 2 reinforces the body motions and the weight-forward component, and it culminates with what I call "The Best Golf Swing Practice Drill of All Time". Work yourself sequentially and gradually through the chapter, and then commit yourself to that drill in Lesson 2.8. Learn it. Practice it. Master it. You can even use this partially abbreviated swing on the course and play quite well with it as it will provide plenty of distance. (It actually is the full swing minus just a couple of power accumulators.) Once you've got that down, you will be well prepared to move forward in the curriculum and well on your way towards taking ownership of YOUR swing! 2b) GOGP: This quick-start program is exactly as it sounds - it is designed to fast-track you out onto the course so you can have fun - and success - playing as you learn! Should you choose this path, everything in #1 above still applies, and as implied above in 2a you will still want to work through it sequentially and gradually, mastering each lesson before moving ahead to the next one. In this program, Drill #5 - The Flying Wedge is the one you'll want to park yourself on and nail down. 3) Also, as you progress always keep in mind the V1 Swing Video Analysis service, an effective and inexpensive service that I highly recommend to everyone in the school. I liken it to bringing your swing into the shop for a tune-up or minor repair. Scheduling one on a quarterly basis for preventive maintenance will do wonders for keeping things humming along nicely, and it's also a great tool for pinpointing and resolving any issues that arise. The process involves downloading the free V1 app and then submitting two videos to me through the app - one down-the-line (captured from your stance line, not the target line) and the other face-on. You'll find more information about the V1 Analysis halfway down this page on the Saguto.Golf site: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolf 4) Finally, please migrate over to the SagutoGolf Community Forum - which is included in your online school membership - and begin engaging with your fellow members. I look forward to hearing from you regularly in the Forum and to assisting you in building a consistent, low maintenance, powerful, body-friendly swing that will bring your enjoyment of this great game to a new level! Hey Tom, not trying to coach the master but was the lack of hip turn an issue with the thinned shots? The hip turn you have talked about seems to be an important ingredient in the takeaway.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
Not quite sure what you are referring to, Howard. This was a drill specific to the takeaway, so the focus was on that and not on the hips when executing it. Once we go back to the full swing the appropriate hip turn is certainly there. It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. Does the lead shoulder deep in the back swing and the down swing triggers when the lead shoulder-touches the chin . Tom request feedback and thank you .
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 2 года назад
The lead shoulder should work under the chin and not touch it, @Latif Kaba. The key here is to avoid going beyond your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight. 6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact 7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury If you would really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform, please consider my online school. i totally agree that a player shouldn't roll their hands; but, it is possible for the club to stay square without holding it square. as a drill, if you hold the club out to the left, with your left hand, it will toe in slightly. but, if you square the club and then just swing the arm half way back you will be able to return it squarely to the address position without rotating the clubface. when we do this drill we control the club with the heel pad, as we swing the club back. and, when the left heel pad is in control, in the backswing, the clubface will always be square in relation to the swing arc. and, the waggle establishes control with the heel pad. the heel pad presses to the left- pulling the left forearm to the left- to waggle the club back. the wrist joint presses in to return the club to the ball, whilst the heel pad resists against the wrist joint. this fully activates the wrist joint and the heel pad. and, when the wrist joint is active the heel pad will only be able to press slightly to the left. the wrist joint, of course, will be able to push back, in the backswing, pushing the lower part of the right arm back, whilst the heel pad, of the left hand, pulls on the left side of the right forearm. this folds the right arm and sets the club on its arc.

Nope. I simply do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next.
