Joseph Smith was a horndog who used his considerable charisma and powers of persuasion to legitimze and create his own harem. This is manifestly obvious to me and millions like me who are never-ins. But it seems once you are or once were a believer seeing the obvious becomes much more difficult.

Everything Joseph Smith did in his entire public career----beginning with his folk-magic treasure-hunting scheme when he was still a teenager---was for the purpose of making money, amassing power over people, and gaining sexual access to women. And all three of those vices got him killed at age 38.

TLDR; 1. The 2,000 Stripling Warriors The story about 2,000 young warriors not getting hurt or killed in battles is very hard to believe. It does not seem realistic based on how violent ancient wars were. 2. New Testament in The Book of Mormon Many passages in the Book of Mormon are almost exactly the same as passages from the New Testament in the Bible. This makes it questionable if the Book of Mormon is really an ancient record. 3. The Tree of Life Vision A vision about a tree of life in the Book of Mormon is very similar to a dream Joseph Smith's father had. This suggests Joseph Smith may have based the vision on his father's dream. 4. Joseph Smith's Treasure Digging Joseph Smith used to try to find buried treasure using special stones, which was considered a trick. This makes his later religious claims seem less believable. 5. The Book of Abraham Translation Joseph Smith's translation of the Book of Abraham does not match the actual Egyptian writings. This challenges his claim of being able to translate ancient records. 6. DNA & The Book of Mormon DNA evidence shows Native Americans are not descended from ancient Israelites, which contradicts what the Book of Mormon teaches. 7. Temple Endowment Changes The Mormon temple ceremonies have been changed a lot over time, even though they were supposed to be unchanging. 8. Joseph Smith's Polygamy Joseph Smith secretly married multiple women, including some who were already married and some who were very young teens. This raises ethical concerns. 9. Race and Priesthood Ban The past ban on Black members getting the priesthood was based on racist teachings, challenging claims of divine guidance. 10. Changing Doctrines The Mormon church has reversed or abandoned many of its past teachings over time. This questions if its leaders really receive truth from God.

Watch the multiple Mormon Stories episodes with one of the leading Egyptologists, Robert Ritner. Then challenge your friend to do the same. It’s such an annihilation of any sense of credibility in one of their celebrated scriptures. After that, you can’t walk away thinking Joseph Smith was anything other than a con man who took advantage of people’s ignorance of all things Egyptian; it’s a small step from there to realizing if he did it for that book of “scripture”, did he do that with the book of Moses and Book of Mormon? And what else did he make up?

@randyjordan5521 well that's easy. They were dynastic sealings and not physical marriages. Helen Mar Kimball was sealed to Joseph at the request of her father Heber C kimball so the two families would be sealed in heaven. Did you know men were sealed to Joseph Smith as bothers too?
@hardwork8395
@hardwork8395 2 месяца назад
@@briandavis6898 was her father, mother, and siblings sealed along side her? If your comparison to other sealings of men to Joseph were the case here, for dynastic reasons, then it only makes sense that Heber would have been sealed to Joseph; his underage daughter need not have had any part of it. You haven’t thought through the shallow apologetic excuses and contortions you’ve had to come up with. Your argument minimizing her sealing is disingenuous, as it only hides the predatory nature of the event.

Did anyone notice that in Elder Ballard’s last conference talk? He did not say Joseph Smith went into the sacred Grove to pray to know which church was true? He said that Joseph Smith went into the sacred Grove to pray to know if his sins were forgiven to me, that was Elder Ballard trying to come clean before he left this world. Most church members didn’t even catch that he said that.

When making a list of 10 reasons in a debate, each one should be nearly as good as the next. Otherwise, your critics will simply pick the easiest target, refute it, and ignore the rest. Case in point... your first point #10, "Survival of the 10,000 Stripling Warriors" is not a strong argument against the veracity of the Book of Mormon. Yes, to a non-believer, it's an obvious fiction. But to the believer, that's the point. The incredulity of the story is a direct dare to the believer. Belief against the odds is the point and purpose. You might as well argue that the Resurrection is evidence against Christianity. That's never going to convince a Christian. DNA, Book of Abraham, Joseph Smith's polygamy and treasure digging, racism, integrity of leaders... those are all very strong.

Whether you speak of the Book of Mormon or the Bible, it works the same way ... Meaning atheists or any sort of non-believer have a goal and purpose of taking a royal shit on religion and deity. While all the facts are true, TBM’s stay because of emotional reasons. The facts simply aren’t relevant for them, despite their use of “facts”, in outlining why they believe. It was a traumatic withdrawal for me. I had to admit I’d been fooled and deceived my entire life. I had to admit I perpetuated the lie. I had to admit I’d been brainwashed and brainwashed others, including my children. I had to admit I didn’t know anything and would have to go figure out what was right for me, my “gold standard” having been destroyed by myself. All that was by far less harmful than continuing to lie to myself and the world. How I wish I could have figured it out sooner. How I wish it would have never happened at all. And yet it gave me a loving wife and dear friends. It is my regrettable past.

Out of all of the arguments against the Book of Mormon the 2000 stripling warriors has gotta be the weakest. Debunking miracles is territory that doesn’t deserve our time and will never be proved one way or the other. It’s like when Moroni appears to Joseph, or when Peter James and John came back to give the priesthood. The context of these stories can be analyzed but the events themselves aren’t worth diving into. Although highly unlikely an event like that could’ve occurred there are so many better arguments against the bom. I mean, the book itself is an anachronism since early inhabitants of the Americas didn’t right stuff down like the bom portrays.

Joseph Smith displayed the standard template of a predator. The use of his elevated position as prophet, and as a person many trusted and believed to be the genuine article. Using his position as leader and of God's representative in order to influence young girls into marriage is disturbing to say the least. If you took the exact standard and apply it to other cult leaders over the years you see the exact replica behaviour that Smith portrayed. Non Mormon cult leaders that have used the same tactics for their sexual gratification would be sickened by TBM's , yet those same church members allow Smith to get a pass for the same sexual predator methods.

Number 2 alone is enough to disprove the Book of Mormon. The most important aspect of the New Testament plagiarism is that so much of it is anachronistic, passages being quoted that, according to the Book of Mormon timeline, didn't exist yet. Here are some of many examples: 1 Nephi 22:15, 23-24; 2 Nephi 25:13 quote Malachi 4:1-2. However, according to the Book of Mormon chronology, Nephi lived 200 years prior to Malachi. In 2 Nephi 2:5 Lehi quotes the apostle Paul in Romans 3:20. But Lehi supposedly lived 600 years before Paul. Alma 7:24 is a combination of 1 Corinthians 13:13 and 2 Corinthians 9:8, but Alma supposedly lived more than a century before these epistles were written. Helaman 5:8, 12 has two clear references to the Sermon on the Mount, but this was allegedly written in 30 BC, more than 60 years before the Sermon on the Mount existed. Ether 8:9-12 is clearly derived from the story of the beheading of John the Baptist (Matthew 14:1-12), even though it allegedly took place centuries earlier.

The Bible warns against adding to or taking away from its words in several passages: 1. **Revelation 22:18-19**: "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book."¹ 2. **Deuteronomy 4:2**: "You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you."¹ 3. **Proverbs 30:6**: "Do not add to His words Or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar."¹ These verses emphasize the importance of preserving the integrity of the Scriptures and caution against altering the Word of God¹.

There is so much absolute truth to the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! You have to overlook the twisted views and attempts to prove it wrong such as this. Yes some of it seems pretty fantastic but a lot of things in the Bible are pretty fantastic too (Moses parting the Red Sea, Job being swallowed by a whale, the wife turning into a pillar of salt, etc) but because they’re in the Bible they’re true?? Well, there’s not a chance that Joseph Smith could write the Book of Mormon in fantasy because there are too many true facts he couldn’t possibly have known except that it was by revelation! So chip away in your disbelief if you will but you can never change the truth👍🏻. Satan loves using whoever he can to try to bring down the truth but it will stand🙂

Thanks for the deep dive on a great list. 1. My #1: Why did God suddenly ignore the Billions of good and moral Christians. No matter the purity of the various denominations, most of these Christians were worthy of salvation. For 200 years, why hasn't God tried many ways to reach these 'misguided' souls? 2. A movie of the 2,000 stripping should be made in the vein of '300'. a) '300' is about 300 ancient Spartans/Greeks battling tens of thousands. b) Make the 2,000 movie as homoerotic as 300. c) If they show modern times, the white shirts and ties should be taken off within minutes. Why? That's why screenwriters are hired. Let's hope Bill, RFM, and John D. Are extremely in this seen. Rebecca should be in another scene. 3. Wherever Joseph Smith is, what does he think of being the most disgraced religion founder of all time? a) In the 1820s, he knew times were a changing. The Industrial Revolution was happening and there were enormous game changers in all aspects of human existence. b) He's not just spinning in his grave. He reached the Earth's center long ago and popped out somewhere in China. Those lucky Chinese. Not the same for BY; he's in hell. I believe, like the Pope, that there's no Hell. A loving God would just snuff out these souls.

When he began formulating his fictional book, he probably thought that those mounds and other artifacts being discovered during his era must have represented ancient cultures of hundreds of thousands of people. He had no way of knowing that the largest city in the eastern hemisphere was the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, and that its population numbered 200k-400k when Cortez invaded Mexico in 1520. So Smith didn't realize that his stories of two million Jaredites living circa 600 BC, and 500k+- Nephites and Lamanites battling each other circa 400 AD were incredible. The Lucy Walker bit is very deceptive. It is read as though it is the words of a young girl but they are clearly the words of an old woman out in Utah. She even claims her parents joined a church that didn't even exist yet (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) in 1832. It was called the Church of Christ. Her saying Joseph told her they would be out beyond the rockies has no support at all. Joseph had a few ideas of the next place to run. Calling the shot like that in this shows it is just the tale of a committed Utah polygamist.

Not all of this is good arguments against the church. The tree of life isn’t a good argument. Joseph’s Book of Mormon could have easily influenced what Lucy Mack Smith thought she remembered about Joseph Sr.’s dream. Polygamy and Lucy Walker story is irrelevant to the question if Joseph was a prophet. There is no rule book about gods character or the character of prophets. If gif is real there is no rational reason to think he would reflect your personal values. The race issue as well. There is no rule book that says god himself or a prophet can’t be racist. The Bible god changed his mind a lot, who knows what a real god would do. A god changing his mind isn’t evidence for or against. That people lie is also not evidence of anything. Everyone lies, Bill Reel felt justified is deceptively recording his excommunication church court. Look up the meaning of hypocrisy. Reel’s own dishonesty and blatant hypocrisy about honesty doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy either. Stick with evidence of what can be tested such as the Book of Mormon and Book of Abraham. Character value judgments based on 21st century evolved moral beliefs don’t prove or disprove anything.

That comes from the assumption that god has to be good and share 21st century values, American values that is. I don’t make that assumption. Stick with evidence rather than value judgements. Many items on the list do just that, but a lot of it is value judgements based on the writers beliefs which a hypothetical god is not bound to agree with.
