Miss the days when Avril was capable of making pop bangers like Sk8er Boi and Losing Grip while creating heartbreaking songs like Together, Nobody's Home, and When You're Gone without the need of watering down the sound and chasing the trends of modern day. She made herself unique and didn't want to be put in the same image as Britney Spears. I know that she had a Lyme disease scare and wanted to make the album surrounding around it, but besides Head Above Water and a few others, it came off as nonlinear and disappointing. The people working with her didn't do her justice.

The worst albums in my opinion is: AJR - Neotheather Machine Gun Kelly - Hotel Diablo The Head and The Heart - Living Mirage X Ambassadors - Orion Mac DeMarco - Here Come The Cowboy There is too much mediocre stuff that I have listened so yeah

The Owl is only number 3!? What could possibly worse than The Owl?! How? (Sees the top 2) Oof. Never mind.

I love Avril and I can't say I don't enjoy Head Above Water at all as an album, but can't help feeling like if other singers-songwriters had gone through Lyme Disease they would've written brilliant music about it. She was a trailblazer for a lot of female artists, like Taylor Swift, Hayley Williams, Billie Eilish. We could also argue (you guys are free to disagree) that, if it weren't for Avril first, we wouldn't have Adele or Lorde. The thing is those women became better Avrils than Avril herself. They became better at writing and singing about their lives, at being vulnerable behind the microphone - while Avril lost that skill over time, became shallow and clichéd. And if she wasn't able to write meaningful, truly powerful and moving songs after the worst years of her life, she probably never will again. It's sad.

Avril’s album wasn’t horrible, wasn’t good though. It was one of the most disappointing albums of the year. The only song I liked and that I actually remember is the title track. Dumb Blonde is especially grating.

Every time I go to the movie theater I hear an AJR song. Hey movie theater, just because the album is called Neotheater doesn’t mean you have to play a song from it every goddamn time I go there.

Even though I genuinely enjoyed "Victorious", I can understand where you are coming from with your criticisms and why you put it on the list, if anything I learned this year is that it's okay not to like everything, and that's fine by me; about Ed Sheeran, yep, that's disappointing, once I saw the collaborations it was going to have (Justin Bieber and Cardi B, like why) I asked myself how did it happen

Totally agree! In my opinion, the worst record of the year was Puddle Of Mudd to be honest. It's such an awful record! And don't forget that shitty 'Indigo' by Chris Brown. It's about quality not quantity!

I totally agree with you about Fever Dream. I was so excited when I found out they were releasing new stuff. Then I heard Alligator and got even more hyped because I thought the entire album was gonna have a similar sound. Then I actually listened to it and it felt like they started off being more pop and electric, but they didn’t really commit to that idea and it wasn’t pop or electric enough to be high energy or positive, but it wasn’t enough like their old styles to please older fans.

For some reason, zombie bastards grew on literally every Weezer fan I know, myself included.

Ok so, as much as I admittedly loved Neotheater (it's my guilty pleasure I'm afraid), when you said 'YUP, YUP, YUP, YUP' when talking about if it was your least favourite of the year I legit spit out my coffee onto my monitor laughing. Thank you Jonathan, very cool.

But my question how do you go from Welcome Home to The Owl? Zac Brown made some of the most classic country songs ever, and I'm just depressed to see how Zac is nowadays.

Avril's album was such a huge disappointment for me because I was SO excited for it and it turned out to be the most boring album she's released

In My Defense didn’t really live up to the expectations suggested by the name, it’s very one dimensional and her new EP is almost literally the same. But I cannot not listen to the good songs from it. Also I think she doesn’t like making songs about personal things, because ppl don’t listen to those, for example Savior still has 25m views after 2 years, and her next single a year later ‘Kream’ has 200+million views and it’s just about ass. She knows what her audience wants, and that is pretty much ass at this point

I was so disapointed with the highly suspect album. I had so much hope from upperdrugs, 16 and canals (which are decent songs) then when it dropped and i first listened to it i was like, "ohh, oh no". The first two albums were so fucking good then that came out, WTAF

I thought maybe you'll put Father Of The Bride by Vampire Weekend and Everyday Life by Coldplay in the "dissapointments" category. The thing is that they weren't neither good nor bad. I feel is because they were too long. These had AMAZING songs but also ones that felt extra, ones that could've been cut out. Am I the only one who feels this way? For this, and as I have lots of free time, I made what could've been (at least for me) ones of their best on these band's discography: Everyday Life: 1- Church 2- Trouble In Town 3- Daddy 4- WOTW/POTP 5- Arabesque 6- Guns 7- Orphans 8- the one in Arabic 9- Champion Of The World 10- Everyday Life Father Of The Bride: 1- Harmony Hall 2- This Life 3- Big Blue 4- How Long? 5- Unbearably White 6- Married In A Gold Rush (feat. Danielle Haim) 7- My Mistake 8- Sympathy 9- Sunflower (feat. Steve Lacy) 10- 2021 The best part of the Coldplay album it's from Church to Arabesque. All songs collide so well together. That including WOTW/POTP, which feels weird without it despite being one of the worst, but cutting out BrokEn. This is because I realised Trouble In Town and Daddy go SO well together! Why do they had to put BrokEn in the middle???!!! Then there's Guns and Orphans that are great too but they are just there. Then finally at the end of the album we get a moment like this from the one in Arabic to Everyday Life. What's on the middle nah, skippable. And the 1st half without the start and the finish, and BrokEn ruinning the vibe! What was hard on the Vampire Weekend one was to know which songs to include. The 1st 5 were easy and the last one too. I've always felt they could've finish the album on 2021. For that I didn't put Spring Snow which is great taking out the auto-tune. What's more, I wanted to include at least 1 of each collaboration so I picked the ones that felt more of a collaboration or were simply better (this applies most on the Danielle one). The rest was just selecting what I felt was best for the album. For example, Bambina is good but it feels extra as it is too short.

Loving both AJR's music and ARTV's videos should really be considered a form of flagellation. But here I am anyway :D

An incomplete list of my least favorites this year in no particular order: AJR - Neotheater(uhhhh I guess it's better than The Click but that's a pretty low bar) Chance the Rapper - The Big Day (My disappointment is immeasurable with this one) Logic - Supermarket DJ Khaled - Father of Asahd Lil Pump - Harverd Dropout Ed Sheeran - No. 6 Collaborations Project(it's kinda sad that this clearly talented musician chooses to spew out painfully mediocre and pandering fluff when he seems to be capable of more)

I used to really like Chase Atlantic, a lot. I really liked the Don't Try this EP. The music before sounded good, put-together, enjoyable. I had such high-hopes for Phases. Boy, was I disappointed. It sounds completely different, and it sounds like a mess. I tried to like it because I liked the group but I just couldn't. I don't like any of the songs on that stupid album. They're awful. I hope they go back to how the music was before, instead of trying to change their sound to get more clout.

Skillet used to be my fav band of all time After Unleashed, i barely listen to them now But their old stuff are awesome Check out Collide, Comatose, Awake All amazing

Fever dream actually grew on me a lot! It’s definitely a listen for a specific mindset, but I’d give it another chance! Ahay, Vulture Vulture, Sleepwalker and Soothsayer are all great deep cuts, and Wars stands on its own well with the other singles.

I’m a huge Melanie Martinez fan but k-12 was not that good especially comparing to cry baby. Cry baby is such a good album and doesn’t rely on the visuals to make it better unlike k-12. I hope her 3rd album is more like cry baby.

I actually started listening to Highly Suspect this week, and holy shit MCID was terrible. They were at their peak with The Boy Who Died Wolf, and then they fell so hard from grace. What a shame.

i agree with a lot of this list but i feel that the jo bros did a great job with happiness begins so that’s where we’ll have to disagree, i do wish they went more of a pop rock route but there are several cuts on there i enjoy like “used to be” and “don’t throw it away for example” that show their improved vocals over the years. anyways i love your videos jon i’m a huge fan keep up the great work :)

I'd give K-12 (from your dishonorable mentions) a few more listens. I was initially disappointed as well, but now- while I still don't think it's quite as good as Cry Baby- I really love the album. It was one of my favorite albums of the year. The songs are not as immediately as catchy or mind-blowing as Cry Baby, however, they have a certain quality to them that makes them grow on you over time with repeated listens. The Principal, Show & Tell, Strawberry Shortcake, Teacher's Pet, and High School Sweethearts are my favorites and are all really well done- especially in combination with the choreography (though the choreography isn't completely necessary to enjoy the tracks, in my opinion).

my grandma loves Zac, and she called my mom the day The OWL came out, complaining about how much it sucked.

Skillet was my favorite band. Rise was their last decent album they made. Some decent songs from Unleashed and Victorious (only 2 from that album) but I hate how they mix a portion of pop in their music. It gets boring so quick. RIP. I’ll stick to their old heavier albums

I know it's an EP not an album but Simple Creature's Strange Love was a big disappointment for me as I'm a fan of Mark and Alex.

I love pretty much all of neotheater, but your jabs at it were pretty fucking funny 😂

Let me say this. I enjoyed The Click. I still enjoy it, I’d give it a 7 or 8/10. But Neotheater was AWFUL. As someone who just turned 18 and had little to no childhood because I had an abusive mother, it felt fake and derivative. AJR has real talent sonically, but MAN that album is shit. I’d give it a 1/10. I should relate to Don’t Throw Out My Legos because of my collection of Pokémon cards, but I laughed at it the first time I ever heard it. Also, Dear Winter might be the first time I’ve ever liked a “radio censored” version more than the actual song.
