I am a gastric bypass post-op patient who also happens to be a primary health care provider. After many years talking to and treating patients on their own weight loss surgery journeys, I decided to have surgery myself. On my channel I discuss my own challenges, successes and updates regarding the process.

So glad to hear your husband is better and will be home soon! You look great! Love the dress and boots! I tried on a cocktail dress the other day (found on super sale at Dillards!) and sales person helped me zip it up. She said “You are so tiny” 😮 I’ve never heard that in my life! I stood and looked at myself in that little (literally- sz 6) black dress and thanked God for the surgery and how much I’ve been blessed! It’s an incredible feeling. GB 10.31.2022 and I continue to track. I use Baritastic. Created a few recipes and just recently figured out how to save a meal 😂. I track to confirm I’ve gotten macros for the day. Primarily protein. I get it all in most day with my meals. I’m still losing a little and don’t really want to. Dietician recommended I add another small meal between lunch and dinner. I appreciated your last “what I eat in a day”. I realized I need to stop being so busy in my work day and pause to eat more. I’m definitely going to make that cheesecake! Take care! ☺️

Thank you!! I have had people tell me "You are so little!", and it is so weird!! I hope that you enjoy the protein cheesecake!

Glad to hear Don is doing a little better. I track with pen and paper using a chart supplied as a PDF by my clinic. I track to make sure I'm not eating over my limits.

Thank you- great reminder that we can track in many ways and not just in an electronic format.

I’m so happy your husband is doing better. I love tracking. It helps me stay accountable for what I eat. I use the Baritastic app for tracking. It’s ok. It’s what I started with and I’m used to it now. It can be a little aggravating when it comes to recipes. My son uses the loose it app and he loves it. I just don’t want to loose all my progress in the app now. I’m now ten pounds away from my goal weight and it is harder to get the scale to move. I’m just going to stay with it. You look amazing! Have a blessed week. 💞

I started using Lose-It about 4 months prior to surgery. Never in my life have I tracked my food intake consistently. I haven’t missed a single day! I was just ready. I’m not one who says I wished I had done this sooner. I would’ve out eaten it. Something just switched in my brain where I knew I was ready to use the gastric bypass as the tool that it is. I’m glad your husband can come home soon.

I use my fitness pal but I’ve gotten burnt out counting every calorie I eat but it does help me so much to stay on track for my calories. I’m two and a half years post op and I’m really struggling with increased appetite so the tracking is necessary. So glad to hear about your man 👍

Tracking especially helps me with this days that I struggle with increased hunger as well. Thank for your feedback!

I track every day. When I stopped doing it... thinking I could just eyeball my portions..I gained weight. When I went back to tracking, I was shocked at how much I was over eating. So tracking is essential for me. It helps keep me on track.

I track only grams of protein per day, aiming for my goal every day or knowing that I need to add a protein shake at the end of the day. I have to be VERY careful not to tap into my prior "diet" mentality, as one of my biggest goals is healing my relationship with food. And that means no cutting out of entire food groups, counting calories or carbs; As I will go all in and be obsessed with all of those things, if Im not careful. Ive ruined my metabolism because of those behaviors and am still fighting healing that as well at 9 months post RNY. For the first 4 months, until released to full diet, I wrote down everything I ate to be able to tell the dietitian what I had when she asked, but I still only tracked the number of protein grams and ozs of liquid. But she told me to stop tracking and counting, because of my past. Now I just concentrate on getting in my protein, eating limited whole grains, and lots of fresh veggies, fruits and healthy, real dairy products (meaning no low/no fat or frankenfood things, although I do eat Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt lol). Its great to hear that The Don will be home soon!

I use Baritastic and love it. I have not gotten far enough along to use the recipe part since I’m only 9 weeks post-op. Tracking is essential for me for accountability. I’m losing slower than I would like, ave 2-2.5 per week, 58 y/o. So I’m constantly using the app to try to determine how to tweak my diet to increase the rate of speed. So I would love to see something on tweaking your system or how to adapt expectations when your body just needs to go slower. I keep my carbs below 50 and calories below 860 at least 95% of the time.

Good news about your husband! You're looking amazing! Cute outfit!! I'd love to know when you discovered your fullness cues. I'm 3 weeks out and not quite sure I've felt any of the cues others talk about, which is concerning me a bit.

Hi there! My fullness cues really did not start until I progressed to more solid foods several weeks after surgery. I bet you will start feeling different signs at that stage.
