Thank you for the very helpful videos! If a muscle is tight because its overstretched, is it a bad idea to foam roll those areas?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 10 месяцев назад
It’s not necessarily a bad thing to roll that area out. That said, tight and overstretched muscles will benefit most from strengthening

How to deal with clients with sciatica issues?
@marciaguy10899
@marciaguy10899 3 года назад
Thank you for the content! I’m a massage therapist of 10 years transitioning to personal training (got my certification just before COVID yay) I’m trying to get going with training but I haven’t worked in a gym setting yet. Question: when planning out client workouts, I’ve seen the whole micro/meso/ macro cycle for planning periodization...but how many workouts do you plan at a time? How far in advance do you already have your workouts put together? A week out, a month out, three months out?? The obsessive side of me needs to know what is realistic and what is a waste of time 😅
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 3 года назад
This is actually a really good question and to be honest, there are multiple correct answers here! I typically only plan out each session specifically a day or a week in advance. That being said, I follow a phasing system and have a workout chart that makes it so I don’t have to do a ton of planning ahead of time. I think this is the best way to do things because it allows me to stay flexible in my routines but also gives things structure. Hopefully that makes sense!

Do you still do the movement screens if they’ve answered yes on anything on the parq or health questions or get the clearance from dr before even doing movement screening
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 2 месяца назад
If they answered yes, I got health clearance before doing any type of movement with the client.

Hello, great video, I want to help clients with back pain/posture issues, do you think this is something that can be done as online coaching rather than one 2 one sessions? Would like to know your thoughts. Thank you
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 3 года назад
Thank you! I definitely think this can be worked on in an online training program! All you would have to do is program extra pulling exercises, a few specific stretches, and also encourage them to maintain good posture as much as possible throughout the day. I would make sure that working on their posture is a priority before doing that work with them though.
@neskarraksen
@neskarraksen 3 года назад
Thank you for your reply, I completed the level 4 back pain management course just before 1st lockdown but because of gyms opening and closing my thoughts have geared towards online coaching. I will be giving clients exercises that stretch the tight/shortened and strengthening the long weak muscles and afterwards focus on back strengthening exercises.

I recently injured my back and spent 3 months unable to walk and had to have 2 surgeries. If I re-injure my back I need to have a spinal fusion. Once I’m better I need to relearn how to workout without injuring my back - is there a certain qualification I should look for in a new trainer?
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 2 года назад
I would certainly start with physical therapy if you haven’t already. A physical therapist should be willing to tell a trainer what they think you should and shouldn’t do based on your injury. I would make sure to find a trainer with a reputable cert (NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA) and at least 3 years of experience.

Sorry that I am being such a questioner lol. On the informed consent it uses the word trainer rather than coach, can I still use this form if my approach is coaching rather than me being a trainer?

Can you recommend exercises for a person who has never worked out and is just starting? A person with almost no flexibility.
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation 3 года назад
Keep things light and basic. Start with body weight squats and really work on form. Bridges are another good lower body exercise that the majority of clients do well with. Have them do some light pushing too. A push-up variation like a wall or kneeling push-up can be good. Also, do lots of pulling. Rows, reverse flyes etc. Do light core exercises in the beginning. Make them more challenging as you progress them. Focus on mobility in the beginning and end of the session. These are some of the techniques that I use with clients like you’re describing.
