Welcome to Schony747 trams on Saturday featuring a night time drivers view of Route 11 from Victoria Harbour to West Preston. If you enjoy the video, hit the like button and smash the bell for weekly updates on Schony747.
This is a night time view featuring an E Class Tram on Melbourne Tram Route 11 from Victoria Harbour to West Preston via Collins St, Brunswick St, St Georges, Miller St and Gilbert Road. Filmed around 730pm on a weekday in 2021, Melbourne in general like many other places was pretty quiet and the journey will reflect that. Route 11 runs E Class trams only to service the route. Sit back and come for a ride. Enjoy the weekend - Brenden S.

I don't when you filmed this , but I have never seen the CBD so empty of people, more action along the route. More night ones if you get the chance Brendan and thanks for some great memories.

If you mean at the eastern end of Collins St, that's actually the Old Treasury Building. You can go through it on a tour. It's history is quite interesting

Hi Brendan. I only returned from Melbourne 3 weeks ago. This tram route makes me homesick !🤓. It's a close call between the 86, 96, 109, or 11, as to which route I use the most when I am there. It's so handy to the hotel I stay at too ! Thanks for the video 👍

With so little traffic, the tram sat at some empty intersections for quite a few seconds. It wouldn't take a whole lot of money to install sensors and program the lights to let the tram go through when there are no cars approaching.
@Schony747
@Schony747 10 месяцев назад
That's traffic priority Bob and what you say makes perfect sense. It won't happen for a long time as the needs of cars and trams need to be balanced out.

AT about 25 minutes in, a passing tram's sign said. "Sorry. Not taking Passengers" or similar. For my two pence, . Melbournians are inherently polite.

The tram poles go all the way to Edwardes Lake in anticipation of a tram extension that was never built. I remember a passenger who got off at Regent Street telling me that 'we were promised a tram extension 20 years ago and we're still waiting'. That was back in the seventies when the tram to West Preston ran at night and on weekends as route 10 from St Kilda Beach. In an unmodified 'W' class tram you could release the brake upon leaving the terminus and free wheel the entire length of Gilbert Road all the way to Miller Street and bring the tram to a nice steady pace to take the corner before powering up to make the connection at St Georges Road with the waiting 'hump' car to ferry passengers along Dundas Street and across the Epping railway line to connect with the East Preston tram at High Street and Plenty Road. So much has changed. The railway now goes to South Morang and the East Preston tram has had three extensions. The first being to Boldrewood Parade, the second to La Trobe University and the third to Bundoora. Meanwhile, that extension along Gilbert Road only managed to gain the extra necessary length of rail to accommodate longer trams at the terminus. Has the power supply been upgraded? Gilbert Road was one place where it was advised to use the power limit switch on a 'Z'.
@Schony747
@Schony747 2 года назад
Power was upgraded a number of years ago. I remember having to put the power limit switch on in a B2 as there were too many trams in the section otherwise power was lost. No different to the Wattle Park end of the 70. Regarding tram extensions - the 59 to Gladstone Park has Bern talked about for years as well

i am thinking to change all trams from bells to train horns it will be better for alert all cars
@Schony747
@Schony747 2 года назад
The horn on the C2 and E class is really good and effective when used with the gong. Generally the gong is effective it's just cars ignore the trams anyway.

What was the ringing noise at 8:37?
@Schony747
@Schony747 2 года назад
That's where I took my hand of the dead man device on the driving stick. It just alerts the driver he or she has released the dead man control.

@@Schony747 That's another story. Parking on tram tracks is worse than parking on bike lanes because as a cyclist I can just go around and trams don't.
