As a cis woman I’m HORRIFIED every time I hear how non-private men’s restroom situations are. Like whyyyyyy would there be a door that’s not a door? Or worse, stalls with NO DOORS for doing a poo (or otherwise) with everyone watching? Strongest argument ever for gender neutral restrooms!

Like for real this has to factor in to why men are so ANGRY if the world just decided that they shouldn’t be allowed to just poop when they need to and have a bit of privacy when they do it

So the bathroom thing is for a couple of reasons 1. To prevent homeless people from sleeping in the bathroom because it's one of the few temperature regulated places they have access to 2. To prevent people from doing drugs in the bathrooms I think it's called hostile architecture. This is the same reason why our benches has unnecessary dividers and there are poles and stuff preventing people from sleeping in public areas It's really messed up because instead of investing money to fix these issues, they just keep it out of the sight of the public

Also consider that it saves the government money in the long term to simply house the homeless, and that there are 5 times as many unoccupied homes and apartments across the US than there are homeless people. The reason this isn't done is that most of those properties are owned by the big banks, who can't turn a profit if they simply give out the homes.

My son is trans, and the one person I thought we would have trouble with was my 85 year old, Catholic, Scottish grandma. As an enby lesbian there was an odd couple months where only trans women would talk to me on dating apps. Eventually one of them explained it was because I had they/them in my profile so I "probably wouldn't panic the way cis people do". Hey, I mean no disrespect in this, I just have a question, how can one be a lesbian but also enby? I'm seriously wanting to understand, not demine your identity. I'm a trans guy myself, and I've always wondered about the gay aspect of enbies. I think my sibling is also a lesbian enby, but I don't entirely understand the gay part, because to me, wouldn't that just demine the enby aspect of oneself? I'm really sorry if I've worded it wrong. I truly don't mean to be mean or anything, I just want to understand.

@@Unknown-ov2kz can only speak from my own experience but womanhood and being attracted to men are very wrapped up in each other. Realizing I didn't like men forced me to examine other aspects of womanhood and realize very little of it appealed to me. You'll hear a lot of lesbian enbies say "my gender is lesbian". It's unfortunate that most of our attraction labels are binary based but for those of us only attracted to one gender/look, the existing terms remain the most straightforward way to describe our experience. Many self identify as lesbian, gay, or straight without feeling it undercuts their gender. Hope that helps, and good luck to your sibling
@BooksandBuns
@BooksandBuns 2 года назад
@@Unknown-ov2kz I'll come at it from a POV you might understand (on the basis that you're a trans man). I'm enby, but my experiences aline a lot with a transman's. I want to go on T, I want to get surgery, I want to change my name & hopefully even the gender marker on my birth certificate. By all means, I want to transition into a man. & I also love other men, which would make me, from an outside point of view, a gay man (for this scenario, lets ignore that I'm bi). But, I'm not a man. I don't feel like a man, I don't feel like a woman, I feel like neither. But I want to become a man, outwardly, because my idea of being nonbinary is being masculine. So I tell people I'm a man, & I love men, because to everyone else, I basically am a transman. Being nonbinary isn't just about what you feel inside. To us, how we present our gender is also very intrinsic to that gender. A nonbinary lesbain may present as a woman, but they don't feel like a woman. I present as a man, but I'm not a man, but that masculine part of me still dictates a lot of how I view the world & how I interact with it

I recently came out to my grandmama. By recently I mean yesterday at 3 in the morning. We both woke up and sat together. She asked me what I got for Christmas at home. I quietly told her about my binder. She asked what it was and after I explained it she said "that sounds painful. Why would you want that". After a good few seconds of pure fear I told her that I'm trans and on the days when the dysphoria isn't bad then I wear a dress. I didnt know how to explain gender fluid to her so I just said that. "Hmm we do need more boys in the family". I cried. I'm still not gonna tell papa but it's nice being out to grandmama. After we woke up again she gave me a butterfly necklace. "I know you dont like girly things but you've always been my little butterfly". And I always will be. I just wanted to share this cause I wasnt expecting it. I knew she'd be ok with it with how she reacted to me having a girlfriend, but I didnt know itd go so well. I hope y'alls family are as accepting of yall♡

My 13yo recently came out as transmasc, and we took our first family vacation over the holidays since he started his social transition. In solidarity, I decided to only use the restroom at places where at least one all-gender restroom was available, even if I personally was using a gendered facility. It's shocking how many places only offer gendered restrooms, and how many of the places that do have a gender-inclusive restroom only have a single "family" restroom. I waited outside one such "family" restroom with my son for ten minutes while a poor beleaguered mom barked orders at her toddler and -- I presume based on my own experiences when my boys were both young -- changed her infant's diaper and then juggled the baby while trying to have a wee, change a tampon, and make sure that the toddler washed their hands and FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE STOP CLIMBING THAT. It's not that mom's fault we had to wait so long -- she was clearly doing the best she could. But it's frustrating that my son just needed to pee, and had to share one of three single-occupancy gender-inclusive options *at an amusement park with a capacity of 38,000 people* with, not just other trans & nb folks, but also with every parent trying to juggle multiple small children -- the park's main demographic. I ordered him a PStyle as soon as we got home. I have a FUD myself, that I bought to use while camping, and I love it so much that I sometimes use it at home or in public restrooms just for expediency. I honestly think that anyone who squats to pee should have one. I offered to get my son one several years ago (before he came out) but he declined; this time I just ordered one, and he can use it or not, but at least he'll have the option. I don't see him being confidant about using the men's room by himself any time soon, but I can imagine him taking a PStyle into a stall while his dad or brother use the urinal, and that by itself feels like it could be really empowering.

3:22 I'd like to add to these instructions some extra tips for you trans guys a) _Never shave against the grain!_ You always, always shave in the direction of hair-growth. Yes, even under your chin. You will get ingrown hairs otherwise, resulting in pimples. With the Grain. b) This is also why blades are better than electric razors. Electric moves its blades in pretty much every direction. Some guys never end up with ingrown hairs from this. For other guys, electric razors will always give them ingrown hairs. c) _Stretch your skin._ Tight Skin == Close Shave. Tight Skin Prevents Cuts. Pull up at your hairline. Pull back on your ear. Lather up only part of your face at a time so you can pull it tight. d) *Only pull your razor PERPENDICULAR TO THE BLADES!* Which means in the direction of the handle. Think about it. If the blades move parallel to their edge, they will slice your skin. Well guess what? Any direction you move the razor in is actually a combination of parallel-to-the-edge and perpendicular-to-the-edge … _except_ moving purely perpendicular. e) If you nick yourself (1) you sometimes won't feel it; (2) you'll usually bleed more than it hurts, because cuts on the face and head tend to bleed profusely. A way to deal with cuts (besides the usual piece of tissue or toilet paper) is a Styptic Pencil, which is actually a stick of alum. You wet it and rub it on the cut. It causes the capillaries to constrict and stop the bleeding. Cuts don't happen as often as you think. During the first 5 years of using a blade, I think I cut myself twice. Since then, I've cut myself once every 7-10 years? And in all cases, it was because I was _rushing,_ being _careless,_ or hadn't changed the blade recently. f) Disposable razors should be used only once. Razors with changeable heads should be changed every 1-2 weeks, depending on how thick/dense your facial hair is. Mine is still light enough (even though I'm over 50) that I can get away with 3 weeks, but that's pushing it. And yeah, you're also gonna get lazy as you get older and not change the blade as frequently as you should. But if your can't remember when you last replaced the blade, it's _Definitely_ time for a new one. g) If you're using an actual razor (which I recommend), consider getting one of those suction-cup mirrors and shave in the shower. You're already starting with a clean, warmed-up face, rinsing off the blade between strokes is trivial, and it actually takes less time. - From your older cis gay uncle. 😊

You can shave against the grain to get the spots that are tough to shave as long as you go over the area again in the direction of the grain. There are a couple of spots that I can't get a decent shave without going against the grain but the finishing strokes (as I call them) have kept me from having ingrown hairs. Also after the cold rinse (to close the pores again), witch hazel is nice!
@joda7697
@joda7697 2 года назад
Wait is shaving against the grain specifically bad for trans-men? Because, while an enby, i still have a beard (for amab reasons) and without shaving against the grain i don't get it off completely. My dad taught me that i have to shave in all directions if i want to get it all off, allthough i _am_ supposed to start by going with the grain.
@John_Weiss
@John_Weiss 2 года назад
@@joda7697 No, it's specifically bad for _ALL_ men. (And anyone else with facial hair.) But cis men learn this from their dads, or clue in pretty quickly from the pimples from the ingrown hairs. And _gay_ cis men (like myself) learn this from each other. I don't know about the "finish with the grain" strategy. It may work for you … But the best way to get a closet shave isn't shaving against the grain, it's: 1. A sharp razor blade. 2. Pulling your skin tight. 3. Rinsing off the razor between strokes. I actually prefer to shave in the shower, right after I've finished washing. The warm environment keeps the pores open, and I can easily rinse the razor off with the shower head. I've had a mirror stuck to a wall in the shower for decades. (You really want a shower mirror if you shave in the shower.)

@joda7697 2 года назад

Yeah, American public bathrooms always have those gaps. Usually the door covers more, but there's a huge gap at the bottom and some gaps on the side. The gap on the bottom was created to be able to get to someone in case of an emergency (IE they're having a seisure, or are unconsious, etc), but that also has its own problems, and the gaps on the sides are nightmares... I had a bad experience when I was younger, a good decade before I came out, from the lack of privacy and even now I hate having to use the public bathrooms

Gaps on the side I think are just cutting costs so they don't have to worry about a shoddy installation leaving the doorway too small, and then the ultra-tiny doors like Jamie mentions (which I thankfully have never encountered myself) are probably just a paranoid anti-theft thing

The bathroom situation in the US depends a lot on the venue. The cracks around the door are pretty consistent due to cheaply-made everything, but the door generally provides a lot more privacy than that; the reason that major public parks get barely-private doors is that they want to discourage the use of drugs in the stalls there. Here in Seattle there's a huge problem with people ODing on heroin in random bathrooms, for example, so you get those teeny-tiny doors in places like libraries and bus terminals. I don't think that the erosion of privacy is the correct solution to this, of course. Just that it's the (really crappy) solution that a lot of places have decided on.

Makeup, dresses and such no much (although high heels feel empowering untill they start hurting). Well, for a few days after cutting my hair to a length of like two fingers I couldn't stand my reflection, it gave me literal nausea to look to the mirror. I ended up shaving my head to like half a centimeter length with a machine we had laying around at 4am because the thought of the long hair being missing was weird, I couldn't touch it, it didn't brush against my shoulders, it was weird. I'm quite happy with the hair all gone rn, the middle length was the issue. But I don't know if that acted like dysphoria, but if it is similar to it, the sensation is horrible. I could only compare it to my anxiety and paranoia cranked up to eleven, and being on me. Strange feelings of parts of your body being differently shaped, sized, on different locations, with other textures... It makes you doubt about the reality of yourself. It's horrible. As a Trans lady who has been shaving for more years then I would like to admit let me drop some knowledge on you boys and your new face fur. 1) shaving cream is not for everyone its a skin type thing, some folks do better with a high fat soap lather like goat milk soap, if you have oily skin and I know T can do that to you this may help, all you need is a brush and that last a life time (i use my grandfather's who I share my dead name with but you can get them for like 10 buck for a cheep one) and those cans are really bad for the environment. 2) hot water is key! i do mine in the shower and that really helps soften thing up but I know my face very well and do alot more then my face (Tladies got me), It started cause when I was in my teens I could not looking the mirror most mornings but now i just do it because gets a better shave. 3) If you can (like if you skin is not too sensitive or the growth to long) shave up you can get a better shave as it lift the hair off the skin before cutting rather then laying it flat on your skin and just like putting make up on, pulling on your face over time it can make your cheeks droop ect. 4) get a trimmer, keep those lines tight and straight keep a stash off the coloured part of your lip it will look much neater, and kissing much better.

It's actually really validating to hear you say shaving cream isn't for everyone! Trans guy here, transitioned medically very young, and my parents thought I was insane when I told them the "sensitive skin" shaving cream that my dad uses actually irritates my skin. I think I'm possibly even allergic to it, because my skin gets swollen anywhere it touches. I just shave with nothing now, or well, just water. As long as I'm gentle and make sure to change the razor blade regularly enough, it goes completely fine for me, I nick myself WAY less than I do using shaving cream and my skin isn't irritated after, no more razor burn or swelling. I don't know why I'm like this, but I kinda thought it was my "female skin" and felt really bad about it Do you have any more detailed tips for trimming? My facial hair is kinda curly( and patchy) so I don't know what to do with the thicker parts around my chin and the back of my jaw, I can't really figure out how to do it except to just shave under my jaw to the skin (and the upper lip thing)

@@vaughnhaney7020 This, this is way I took the time to post that, you have to know how it works for YOUR FACE, its not your "female skin" I shave way more sensitive areas them my face but the face still takes the most care. Its because face hair is like you say curly and courser then any other part of the body (yes trans ladies know the answer to the age out man woman debate of what harder leg or face lol). Try a shaving soap or the kind of cream that comes in a squeezy tube you can find that in most places now. If you are patchy avoid keeping hair on the mouth area (thats big boy stuff) every young man tries and fails at some point its kind of a right of passage lol, but in the consequence free time of youth. I know the urge to ant to use hair to man up the face been there hun (I was trying to fake it but im sure you have your own experces with that kind of thing). Try side burns they can be like the hair version of me using highlighter to "fix" my face shape. let them come mid ear and toy with the shape to make a stronger jaw line. Hi! I wanted to let you know that your videos helped me through quarantine and my depression. When I first started watching you I thought I was cis, maybe pansexual, but I recently discovered I am a trans man (possible Demi boy) and am bisexual. You helped me to realize this and feel comfortable with it. I remember one time near the end of a video you said: some people just don’t realize that they are trans and all they need is a little push; or something like that but that’s when I realized that maybe that applies to me. Anyways I just wanted to thank you. You are an amazing person and I love your channel.

if u want advice i think experimenting is the best way to figure gender stuff out. yeah self reflection helps but you can only think about something for so long before you reach a wall. like asking a friend to try using different pronouns helped me a lot more than thinking about my gender till the sun rose every night. ALSO it’s ok if you aren’t trans you aren’t a horrible person or whatever for using a label and then not using a label, try not to feel pressured to stay with something even if u think it’s not accurate anymore

I am a transmasculine individual who's figuring stuff out recently, and so far, I collected these tips: - do things that make you happy: if dressing cute/feminine, wearing makeup, etc makes you happy, do it. Experiment, as the pal up here said, and if it feels kind of good, and you like how you look, go for it - make sure you're in a safe space to experiment, or with people you can be safe with: nothing worse than experiencing abuse or having violent people around, so be careful, your safety shouldn't be taken too lightly - hear other people' stories and experiences, search for terms, definitions and labels and their meanings: I got a bunch of knowledge on many gender identities, which kinda helped me navigate mine, but sometimes the individual experience with a certain gender/label explains so much more than definitions I hope any of this helped, if you have any more questions feel free to ask me, or if you have insta and prefer to message me, my username is @fra.dmm_24

As a person with a service dog who can't fit in regular stalls, I can relate hard to being stuck waiting for someone to finish pooping in the only toilet I can use. It sucks, especially if you really got to go.
@thegreenmanofnorwich
@thegreenmanofnorwich 2 года назад
Just to say, as a cis man, I would assume a person waiting for a stall needed to poo, I wouldn't notice the sound of pee (which can vary depending on the presence or absence of a foreskin and how it's shaped), and if I heard rustling, I'd probably either assume that it was (a) someone with a colostomy who needed privacy, or (b) someone doing something nefarious, like something drug related who might get angry at an interruption. While I can't speak for everyone of course, you can probably divide people into (a) enlightened and won't want to make you feel uncomfortable (b) curious as to what's happening, but reasonably open minded, and (c) unenlightened, but fearful that people might think that they're gay because they think gay men have nothing better to do than look at other guys' penises in the bathroom, so they won't say anything.

Yeah, there are so many other things someone overhearing the sound of a tampon or pad opening will think. From "what weirdo eats chips in a public bathroom" to "Oh they must be attending to some kind of medical condition." They could be injecting themselves with legal or illegal drugs in the stall (I don't know if people who give themselves insulin injections actually feel like they need to do it in the bathroom, but it's something one might assume). Also most people are self absorbed in their day to day life and are very unlikely to give a much thought to you as you are.

What’s otherkin?
@NonBinary_NonHuman
@NonBinary_NonHuman 2 года назад
@@teathesilkwing7616 Otherkin is when you socially &/or spiritually identify as something non-human. It's more than just liking certain non-human creatures. Take one ( I have multiple) of my kintypes for example (Kintypes are what kind of Otherkin entity you are). Vampirekin, I have phantom fangs (phantom limbs are limbs that aren't there but can still be felt), I feel sick in sunlight, and sometimes I get unbearably thirsty and have to self harm so I can drink my blood to quench my thirst. Some Otherkins have memories of their kintypes. I do have memories from other kintypes I have. Being Otherkin is a very spiritual thing for me and can be for others like me. Otherkin dysphoria is when I know that physically I am human but I have the mind/spirit of something non-human. I know I'm not a Vampire but my spirit feels like it is. It causes me pain to be called human and that I don't have fangs among other things. My apologies if this is confusing. I hope it does make sense though.

@@teathesilkwing7616 This is why when the person said "If you think you're an animal than you need help other than accepting yourself" because I'm not an animal but saying that I'm a human hurts. I can't and won't deny that physically I am human but my spirit feels different.

I never understood why my first child always wore hoodies, even in the summer. Then he came out as trans. My poor baby - I wish he'd been able to come out sooner (he was 11.5yo) so we could have tackled that issue earlier! We still have issues when swimming is involved, but hopefully I'll be able to afford top surgery for him sooner rather than later so he doesn't have to worry anymore. I'm his mama and I just want to fix everything for him, so it's incredibly difficult when all I can offer is a shoulder or an ear 😢
