I've been reconditioning the Mk3 seats I've got for the Triumph Spitfire Project on and off over the last 6 months, and at last they are now ready to fit to the car. As jobs go, this isn't a top priority job to do to the Spitfire Project, however with the current Mk4 seat crumbling and the summer season coming up, it's nice to be able to drive with some comfort

Getting to be more like a Mk3 now Steve .Nice to see the repaired seat runners still fitted the recovered & rebuilt seats. Thank you for your assistance the other day.

You're welcome John, hope your TR6 handles better now with the adjustable trailing arm brackets. Thanks again for making them Mk3 seat runner backs and hardtop brackets from scratch for me, really do appreciate it 👍

Nice seats in good order, time to get back to the originals, good time to check under the seats, so no horrors yet to be seen, stupid someone has hidden the real rust as a lot of 'restorers haha' do...still going strong, I like that car more and more...top! Greets

Love the new seats Steve. I'm not a purist, but I like that you're keeping or reinstating some of the original MKIII features, like the wheels, those seats and I love the original steering wheel. 👍

Cheers mate, something I've always try and do with all my cars is keep within the original spirit of the car, while modifying for modern driving conditions 👍

Good work Steve, they look really nice. Can you do a short video of the pictures of the seat rebuild for those of us not using Instagram?

Many apologies there is only 4 pictures of the seats being rebuilt on Instagram. I did them at such a slow pace I only photographed them in the pre rebuild condition, stripped to nothing condition and rebuilt condition. So there just wouldn't be enough content for a video 👍

Great looking seats Steve. A lick of paint on the ashtray and windscreen vents and the interior will look pretty smart. Will be looking forward to the floor and sill replacement in the future. This car is really coming along nicely.

Cheers mate, all will happen in good time. The ashtray and vents are soon on the cards to be done, as they just annoy me be so rusty 👍

Another great video Steve. I thought replacing the seats would be a simple job, but once again the Spitfires throw spanners in the works. My car is still at a garage having the electrics sorted (I did say to them that it would be easier to replace the look, but they thought they could repair 😪) Once its back I desperately need new seats at the current ones are horrible and rotten. I was thinking of a set of Cobra seats as they are a local company to me.

Cheers Russ, you can weld up the old seats and salvage them, that's all I did with mine. Even if they seem shot, don't scrap them, worst case sell them on eBay. Early Spitfire seats even rotten ones are worth strong cash 👍

Looks very nice Steve .Bit of a pooh to fit but now the're in what a difference ! You'd better start saving for the sills and floor work , it's going to cost £50 or more ! 😂😂😂 Although if the inner sills are sound that will make the task more straight forward. But if you fit full outers the that means cutting the bottom of the rear wings off ! That's the trouble with metal work one thing leads to another, as l'm currently finding out in my "e"type . Always good to see how you're getting on .Take care and stay safe.

Cheers John, the floors, inner and outer sills will all be replaced, along with the doors that are Mk4 doors with Mk3 skins. I've been collecting the panels over the last year or so for the work to be carried out 👍

Hi Steve another good job on the mk3. I have been looking through your posts the gt6 valve adjustment was brill but my favourite so far is the look on Danny's and your face when you fired up the gt6. I have a mk3 spitfire that I restored between 1998 /2001. Eleven years ago I put in a gt6 engine in my spit but other things got in the way and I still haven't fired up mine yet. Your posts has given me the enthusiasm to get back on it, at the mo we are building a workshop to for my cars but like yourself more than one car. Do you think you might be doing a carb balance on the gt6? Kev

Hi Kevin, that's really good to know that my videos are inspiring you. I really can't say if I'll do a tune up on the carbs of Dannys GT6 as the idea was only to get it going. As I'm sure your aware it needs a lot of body, and that's next on his list. However never say never, as there is plenty of other cars I do work on, so just watch this space 👍

For some reason fitting seats always seems more of a chew-on than it needs to be, my MGB has two annoying planks of wood with metal spacer inserts, a swine to line up. Worth doing in your case though, always good to have comfy seats, especially ones which match the car.
@SteveDentonClassics
@SteveDentonClassics 3 года назад
Cheers Keith, I found with the seats how they were I was on the floor of the car, now they are really comfy, but they do need a few miles of bedding in as they sit a little high at the moment. I'm sure the'll sink to the right height after 6 months or so and then the'll be just perfect 👍
