After a failed attempt over 5 years ago, I successfully install the windscreen into the windscreen frame. I also start putting in sound dampening material.

Really looking good now Chris, This spitfire so takes me back to my childhood , We had A 1967 MK2 Red every time you get to another stage brings back memories that make me smile so remember the crinkle coat around the gear tunnel and radio housing. I am 57 now as child there were so many triumphs Spitfires and Herald Vitesse on the roads in the UK , just to say you’re doing a fantastic job and entertaining been watching from day one so keep up the good work mate 👍

Thank you very much, Philips. That's so awesome that it's bringing back good memories for you. Hopefully I can do that for me and the kids when I get her all done. They're getting a bit older now, but I'm sure they'll still have fun.

Thanks Chris for taking the time and effort to make this video. I'll be doing the same on my '66 MkII in the next week.

Thanks for watching, Tim. I must have gotten lucky because I really didn't have that hard of a time of it. I did need to re-start, but only once. Make sure the rubber stays aligned early on and it should stay pretty good once you get going. Good luck!

Thanks, Jeff. I fought with whether or not to put it in there, but I figured some creature comforts, especially those that were hidden and relatively inexpensive, were worth it. Thanks!

Nice progress, windshield install went very well doing it by yourself. Just looking at it sitting against the frame, you would never think it would fit.

Nope, I sure didn't. I was pleasantly surprised I got it done by myself. I had warned one of my kids that he was going to have to help me, but he got off the hook. Thanks!

Thank you. I've still got some not-so-fun stuff yet, but it is nice to see solid progress with just about every visit now. Good for my motivation because I sure did need it! Happy New Year to you as well. Thanks for watching!

Thank you. This was one of those video where I wish I had paid more attention to the video image to give some better angles. It ended up not going anywhere near as bad as I thought it would. Just have to keep pushing it down and not be afraid to beat on it too much (with the flat of your hand, anyway).

Another excellent video. But I have a question on actually something you skipped - how did you install the plastic silver trim on the windscreen rubber? I am kinda lost there...
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 12 дней назад
I don't remember a whole lot of problems with it except for cracking it once, then having to do it again. Got too aggressive with trying to make a curve. Lots of lubrication and taking it slow. If you can do it in the hot sun, to warm that plastic up, you're probably better off. Otherwise, I just started with the break in the top/center and made my way around. Been a while, but I don't remember it being too horrible. Good luck!

I just watched the 1954 The Fast and The Furious. So should the reader. It's Packed with awesome cars, Allards, Maseratis, Pre A Porsche, TR 2, Many Jags, main Jag has a Bench seat and No windshield, just a little folding oval. I've been considering the same for my 1964 Spitfire. Watch the movie, the cars are great and it's all on highway 1, LaLa Land and mountains into San Diego. And a cop on a Harley with a front wheel that isn't spoked! Around minute 25

I will definitely look that up. Didn't know that the newest movies (which I refuse to watch) were remakes! Thanks for the tip, Happy!

Hi Chris, there are pop rivets in the two top holes in the alu trim piece. The other holes in the side are not stock. Love the project.

@roundtailrestoration 4 года назад
Thanks, Huib. Yes, I looked at my other windscreen and noticed they weren't there. That's a bummer. Thanks!!

BTW, I recently installed a couple of windows in a VW Bus and I used pure glycerine as a lubricant, and steel reinforced, plastic coated clotheslines to get them in. That worked a treat. Bonus is that glycerine doen’t affect the rubber.
@roundtailrestoration

@@huibwassink3196 cool. The sil-glyde is supposed to be inert to rubber, too. Mainly for brakes.

I like the sound deadening material. Is it heavy? Expensive?
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 4 года назад
It's heavy for its size, yes. I ordered 36 sq feet from Amazon (smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00URUIKAK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it was about $65. I'd say the entire box of the stuff weighed about 30-40 lbs. There were 9 sheets, I think, so you're looking at 3-5 lbs a sheet or so.

Lol avoiding painting!? No one said that! Everything looks great man, that windscreen took some Navy muscle. I'm going to check out that Noico.
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 4 года назад
lol, I know I never said that! Close, too, just the bonnet, front valance and various little bits. Soon. It went easier than I thought it would, I'll tell you that. Lots of lubrication...solves many problems. Thanks, Eric!

I was thinking about the orange peel you were getting, maybe crank the heat up a couple more degrees?
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 4 года назад
@@ericpfiffner5615 Definitely give that a shot. Especially with the bonnet being so huge comparatively. Thanks for the tip!
@happyraccoon4791

The steering is huge and 4 turns L to L. I'm going to use a 12-14". I would like to change the rack and pinion but I doubt that's possible. I won't go through hell for that but a small wheel will help.
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 4 года назад
I do have a Mk3 wheel. I think those are 13" (maybe 14"). Pretty sure the Herald (original) wheels are 15". It's a beast, that's for sure.

Is the dashboard loose before the screen slips into place,?
@roundtailrestoration
@roundtailrestoration 10 месяцев назад
No, not on the mk2. The dash, which I assume you mean the vinyl cover, is glued directly to the car. The windscreen goes down over that.
