Lexus brought back the V8 to the IS. The IS 500 F Sport packs a punch thanks to this naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 and it sounds awesome. It's very similar to other IS models with the extra power being the primary differentiator. Regardless, you can't go wrong with a V8 luxury sedan.

Actually…you can (and should) use the paddles. The gears shift faster once you’re past 4500RPMs. I take mine to the mountains regularly and have had a raucous great time in Sport S+ & Manual mode. You’re right about the cup holders, Lexus moved them forward in 2021. Thanks for posting!

I am pretty sure he didn't warm up the car at all before trying to use the paddles. Even when he shifted into S+ mode, the car didn't automatically downshift a couple gears like it normally does, which would suggest to me that the car was cold.

At 6`3 I am guessing there would be no chance of my family who are the same hight sitting in the seat behind me..

The delay in the paddles is because the car is not fully warmed-up yet; or else something is wrong with your car. Mine is nowhere near that delayed. edit: In fact, after watching the next clip where you turned ASC off and on again, I am quite positive the transmission hadn't been warmed up yet. Typically when I select S+ mode, the transmission will drop a couple of gears - but it won't do this if the car is still cold.

Don't most automatics have a warm-up time? Pretty sure even the much-heralded ZF8s are slushy until they warm up too; at least last time I drove one in an A7 years ago they definitely did. But I'm surprised he didn't consider that at all. IS500's 8sp is definitely OP in manual mode once warmed up.

@@StratusFearX In my experience, it takes 10-15 minutes of driving for the transmission to get its act together.

@@ARentz07That has also been my experience. But once it gets to that point, it works quite well.

The purpose of paddle shifting in sport mode is to be able to keep the engine revs near the red line.
@ARentz07
@ARentz07 9 месяцев назад
He had it in Manual mode (with M displayed in the gauge cluster), whose purpose is to choose what gear you want.

Just wondering why people always comment on the manual trunk lid? It's a compact GT/sports car not a soccer mom's scooby van.

I have a hard time caring about this when most of the competition is about bolting two iPads onto the dashboard and hiding some of the most used physical controls behind menus on the screens. If you want a driver's car, you want controls you can find without taking your eyes off the road. The competition isn't offering that anymore.

I have one and its not slow lol. 0-60 in 4.4. Max torque at 4800. Max speed at 7100. Its Definity not super quick off the line due to low-down torque, but its for sure a top end power car. Manual mode way to go if you want to race. Shift response better in manual. The guy in the video just wasn't paddle shifting at the right times.

Lexus fanboys always tell me what a great value this car is but i struggle to see that…for ~65k you get - a nice, but old & underpowered v8 - terrible, slow, clunky transmission - boring design that doesnt stand out - slow 0-60 time - 10 year old infotainment with lexus’ garbage trackpad system - fake leather seats - 90% fake exaust note - RWD only - no backseat room

I may be a fanboy, but I will still smoke most cars on the road and sound mean while doing it. All the while, this is a reliable yet good-looking car. Besides, it's got a "slow 0-60 time" if you are used to actual sports cars, but in its segment, it is pretty competitive. The main thing holding it back from an even faster time is the tire Lexus puts on it.
