The 508 resembles a cereal bowl in a humorous way but In actuality, they are some regular tornado warning sirens. The reason that being said is because when you see a bunch of 508s in w.s.s, you are likely in for a huge surprise
Yes. They can ship it to your place which would be harder cause they are gonna need to know where your located and it will cost extra especially for the shipping.
That Whelen you are questioning at 12:53 is a 2900 series, look at the support beams on the outside of the cells, they a smooth round shape, and they are also painted black, at the begging of the video you point out a 2700 series siren, the support beams on that are grey and have an interesting design
It is. It appears to be the ESC-864 controller at least the looks of it. The bottom part which is the battery council is shaped slightly different but ether way, yes it is a Whelen.
Look for a fin. If it has one, you've got a Vortex. No fin, then you look at the rotator. The Vortex will have a square looking box sticking out of the side of them where as the WPS series has a cylinder looking motor sticking out. The oldest 4004s have a similar look to the 4008 but half the size. Similar sides and sports an X on the screen.
10:50 That was probably most likely a control unit used for Whelen's SIPS 400/800 warning sirens. Illustrations used in their manual resemble quite a bit compared to in-video.
That Whelen "box" at 4:20 is a type two siren cabinet, it has the siren data board in the top part and two batteries in the bottom, a type three is similar in design but can hold four batteries, therefore I personally like the type three cabinet
The crew don't mind if there is someone alone in the yard but they need to know if there is someone out in the yard. If you plan on going, you can call them to let them know and when you get there, you can check in at the main office to let them know and they'll let you do what you want.
If I can remember I saw on google maps one of the whelen vortexes had to be the one that used to be at lions park on dexter Ann Arbor road until it got replaced with a 2001 130 in early 2009
I bet some of Marion County, IN's old sirens are there! Let me know if you see any from there. We used to have Thunderbolt 1000T/1003s, Model 5s, a Model 2, 3 or 4 SD-10s, and several Older 2001s. Our system now consists of all 2001s. We test on the 1st Friday at 11:00 for 50 seconds. Feel free to come down any time you want 😄
@Hmmm Hmmm The WPS-2900 series has voice capability. Omni-Alert does not and they only have 1 cell, 2 cells, 3 cells, and 4 cells available. Omni-Alert only goes as much as 4 driver cells and they use a Type 1 controller while the WPS-2900s 1 to 5 use a Type 2 controller and 6 to 10 use a Type 3 controller. I'm not sure if there is a exterior physical difference of the siren head itself cause they both look the same. The Firehouse siren (Going by the website) says they have FAUXIN Limited function auxiliary board for contact closure Activation. I have no clue what any of that means but both the Omni-Alert and Firehouse Sirens use the Type 1 controller and both go up as much as 4 driver cells.
+RailYardWarrior Can you just show up there, or do you have to schedule an appointment? I'm thinking about going there over the summer. And, on average, how much does it cost to buy a siren?
+lizziepickle3000 you have to call the president, jeff. Email him first, and you'll schedule a phone call. You can then schedule a time and siren, and he'll have it ready by the time you get there. He's a very nice guy- very friendly, very patient. his siren yard it emptying, though. you better hurry up
Also I wonder if that modulator was from Moore OK? I sure looks like it was destroyed by a tornado and Moore sure had a butt load of modulators when the tornado hit.
Just wondering, is WSS scrapping the entire yard for real? SPC Rutherford told me he called WSS and that he was told that they're scrapping the entire yard of sirens
Siren1000T: What type of Thunderbolt is this? Thunderbolt: I'm a 1003! Siren1000T: It's a 1000 tr-Thats not a 1003! Thunderbolt: I AM! Siren1000T: Look! Where's the Silonoied? Thunderbolt: IT IS GONE! Siren1000T: Ehh, it's gone! Thunderbolt: I KNOW! DO YOU HEAR ME Siren1000T: Oh wait wait......that is probably what is left of it! Thunderbolt: I FREAKING KNOW! ARE YOU STUPID, SIREN1000T!?!?!?!?!?
+Sirens & Aviation Yeah actually back then, I couldn't tell the difference by the exterior looks. I learned how to tell the difference of models by looking at the cell supporters.
Giovanny Plascencia I go by the mesh screen that covers the cells. airraidsirens.com/wiki/images/d/d6/WPS_2805_Official.jpeg airraidsirens.com/wiki/images/b/b3/WPS2905_Official.jpeg
i hate to see those thunderbolts just rotting away man. those are the coolest sirens, and unfortunately the powers at be do not see the true value in them. they are iconic. no siren will ever be able to match it or replace it
10:51 This Whelen controller is not really that special. As you can see by the 2 fuses on the left, it was most likely for WPS-2801-2901, but not sure. Maybe 2802-2902.
