This is what I’ve learned from my research: 1). Fiber (both soluble & insoluble) will help you feel more satiated longer. Fiber also help delay glucose absorption by allowing the food to go further down the intestinal tract. Fiber is food for the bacteria in our digestive system. By feeding them the good stuff, the bacteria will help us. 2). Portion matters. Ideally, more fiber from veggies, less in protein, and even less in carbohydrates like rice, pasta, potatoes, etc. 3). Order of food eaten matters: veggies then protein / fats and then carbs last. 4). Cooking method matters. Steamed potatoes vs fried potatoes. Steamed broccoli vs boiled broccoli. 5). Have small snacks if needed to avoid being too hungry. For example, some apple slices with low sodium cheese or nut butters. Cracker with avocado and tomatoes or proteins like tuna/sardines with olives. 6). Read the food labels. Avoid added sugar in packaged foods. Do not shop for food when hungry. Shop the perimeter of the store, avoid the middle aisles if possible. 7). Eat foods that are in its natural form or eat less processed foods. When using canned foods, most foods can be rinsed to reduce sodium levels. 8). Enjoy life! It is ok to have sweets, just be judicious and have some form of fiber before eating sweets (think flax seeds, soaked chia seeds, veggies from your meal). 9). Plan your meals. Pre-cook and store / freeze. 10). Get enough quality sleep so your body can regenerate and be ready for the next day. Everyone is different so experiment for yourself and see what works for you. Spend 5-10 minutes a day just breathing and reaffirming to yourself that you can do it because you are worth it!

It’s the whole picture of what we can do to help ourselves with a wholesome diet. I exercise now. Walks. It’s the corollary to a whole food/ grain diet. Removing sugar in all its forms ( white brown black/ pastries too)is vital till insulin resistance is reduced/ removed. Then one can take a little of that stuff now and then. It’s the kimchi the broccoli and tofoo that outweigh the rice. And that helps. I’ve followed Charmaine’s diet and my blood sugar came down. I can’t eat a plate as big as hers as I’m older and more sedentary But her videos helped me beyond words. Prior to her videos I was eating low carb diet. I was afraid of any kind of potatoes or grains. To my folly. I ended up with C reactive protein and ketoacidosis in my blood profile. My blood sugar went up. Not down. I was super puzzled. I had dehydration. My tongue was dry and my skin on the arms shrivelled. All this in the last two years I ate low carb. Ate VERY little. She blew the lid off with her videos. She named all the setbacks if we ate low carb high fat. I had all she said we would have. In my blood profile. I started eating plant based whole food whole grains in portions I could manage according to my appetite and my blood sugar plummeted. I’m satiated now. Never hungry like before. Because I’m eating a high fibre nutrient dense meal which stops all my cravings. Doctors have got it wrong. They put you on a guilt trip if your sugar is high. They keep disbelieving you that you ate little. And few carbs. I was healthier when years ago I just ate what I wanted. Low carb almost killed me. I lacked nutrients for my body chemistry to work synergistically. Thank God for Charmaine. The Sherlock Holmes of the diabetic mystery. Everyday I wake up knowing I can eat well and not die. Finally I’d say this. Experiment. And see what works for you best. Less rice more veg. More plant based protein - anything. But eat wholesome food because your body needs a whole range of nutrients to put this diabetic demon down

Are you saying low carb makes your glucose level go up? What was your ketones level when you were on low carb?
@daphneruthsebastian1244
@daphneruthsebastian1244 4 месяца назад
@@danpan001 yes low carb caused my sugar levels to go up and I couldn’t understand why. Charmaine explained it in another video. She said low carb is not good as you’re not training your body to have carbohydrate tolerance. So when you do eat more carbs than usual on any day , your inability to tolerate carbs makes your sugar level spike. I had that exactly. In fact I was not only eating low carb, I was eating the wrong type of carbs. Meaning I was not eating whole foods fibre rich carbs. But I was taking very low amounts of processed carbs like white bread and white rice. With very little of anything else on the plate. Today I’m eating fibre rich carbs like chick peas legumes lentils beans cooked in my favorite ways. Together with a little of other food like meat and rice. And I feel full and do not snack any more. And my sugar level is going down. However I did not do a test in ketone levels. From what I know a keto diet cannot be followed forever. It’s only for a few months.

@@CharmaineDominguezrown rice is better than most carbs and would be an option to lower or modulate insulin and sugar in a non diabetic or maybe a pre diabetic. For a type 2 you need to give cell receptors a more intemse break from heightened insulin to help them become sensitive. Fat is less insulin spiking than carbohydrates. I would recomend replacing a lot of those carbs from brown rice with healthy fats. Think olive oil, avacado, walnuts, macadamia nuts, salmon, or grass fed meat. I don't think you have to swear off carbs, but with many carbs --whole grain or not-- you will not likely reverse diabetes.

To lower your sugar. You need to do it slowly. If u drink a lot of juice or fizzy drinks it’s best to train yourself on drinking only water for a few weeks then reduce intake of rice or any carbs (don’t eliminate just reduce it) after and eat slowly. @Christiansstillstruggle
@Christiansstillstruggle 9 месяцев назад
@joaogomes850 No, this is not meant to be long-term. Once you are no longer insulin resistant, which is what being diabetic is, you are now insulin sensitive and can process carbohydrates in the body the way they are supposed to be. You do this by getting your hemoglobin A1C checked. Carbs are not the enemy. They become the enemy when you over consume them in the form of processed food and, in turn, become insulin resistant, which comes with an entire host of issues.

@@canaldeautoayuda6089 cooking of any kind kills some nutrients generally. Microwave can be used for heating foods conveniently. I sometimes steam vegetables in my microwave for a quick dish. I put washed veg in a microwaveable glass bowl with a lid. I do not add water. I microwave on high for three minutes. Leave the cover on after cooking for 10 seconds. Then remove cover as the green veg will turn yellow if steamed for too long. Be careful when removing cover since the steam can hit your fingers. Then I add a little thin soya sauce ( in place of salt ) just before eating. You can add fried garlic if you have it handy. Or just slice some onions / garlic and steam together with the veg. At least you have fibre with your meals. And I’m sure not all nutrients are lost with cooking / microwave Here’s something from the web on microwaves 👇🏽 Microwaves cook by using electromagnetic waves, which are absorbed into the molecules of water, sugar and fat in food. This action causes them to vibrate, which creates heat to cook food fairly evenly,

@daphneruthsebastian1244 Месяц назад
@@raghvendratiwari2015 I’ve heated food in microwave for past 36 years. I think it’s ok. Just make sure you get the food heated long enough if from fridge or freezer. It must be steaming when removed from microwave. Be careful of the steam hitting your hands. Always cover food when microwaving. And use mittens to remove food from microwave. Do not remove cover immediately or steam will hit you. Another reason not to remove cover immediately is to let the heat circulate through every part of food. If you remove the cover and try to eat immediately some parts of food may not have heated well enough. Just remember that a microwave heats from inside out. So the outsides take longer to get hot. At least that’s what I observed. All the best. For me it’s less messy than heating in the stove. Steaming might be better if you do not want to microwave.
