Thank you for including “plant based “ in your videos I have been whole food plant based for just over a year now. I have lost 45 lbs, my blood pressure was 104/70 yesterday! I am totally doing this for my health. Last dr visit I was told “your cholesterol is lower than mine” 😁score!

My spring/summer garden didn't do well because my beds were very new and the soil wasn't good at all. Starting my fall garden and I've been amending my new beds and I'm real excited about how they're going to do this season.

My poor garden never really did much. Ripping everything out this week and getting set for fall. It was my first year gardening and Texas decided to misbehave this year! Also, did you say you were working on a fermentation course?

It is hot and humid in central Alabama. Last year, spring and fall, was my first attempt at gardening. It was an utter disaster, but I learned a lot about what not to do from it, and a lot more about how to garden from gardening channels, and a few good books. My spring and summer garden, this year, has been largely successful, and I learned more, especially about how much to plant from each crop. I way overplanted lettuce and endive, underplanted Swiss Chard, planted the wrong type of spinach, and don't have the right growing conditions for bulb onions. I am going to grow that success this fall, and next spring, my garden will be bountiful.

Thank you Jill for this great information. We need all the information we can get. Just an idea, I would've love to see more preserving of the vegetables you grow. Canning, fermentation, freeze drying or water bath. Maybe Nathan cook a meal using your homegrown food and spices. Love the positivity on your channel. Take care and God Bless.

Jill can you please do a video explaining how you transition your beds from summer to fall? If we have limited growing space so we have to buy more compost or so the fall veggies have enough nutrition from the soil from summer? Can I use my tree leaves for nutrients in my fall garden or do I need to establish a compost area first before I can garden in fall? Thanks for your lovely videos!

Yes Fall gardening! Ive akready pulled out a few plants. My favorite is Bakers Creek. Ive had 100% germination. Im in StL & still have about 90 days so i can do a 🍅. I container garden living in a townhouse. Purple Reign is a great beef steak tomato that did very well. Baker Creek also has a couple self pollinating cucumbers. Ive had trouble with squash even pollinating. I hope this year is different. I dont ever plant til July/August.

My why... much of my winter consists of -40°C days and even colder with the windchill. 😂 I've tried fall gardens... I just don't have enough space or planting time. I have to plant my summer garden early to mid June then my fall garden I'd have to plant by early July. So when I'm trying to plant my fall stuff, my summer crops are really just getting established. Gotta love Canada. 😅

Oh, how I wish I could have a fall/winter garden. I love learning about your adventures in growing food! I live in northern lower Michigan, zone 4B. We get one crop a year, so we have to make it count. Right now I'm preserving green beans. Our tomatoes won't be ready until the end of August. Our first frost is at the end of September, so I hope the squash and pumpkins I planted will be ready before then, or I won't be eating my own this year. Please keep on sharing, we love you and your homestead!

I live in central Ohio, zone B, I think. I have always had a bumper crop of tomatoes on one side of my patio with lots of ripe ones by this time. This year I’ve not been well and I just got a plant today...Aug. 3. It was the last one, and struggling, in front of Kroger from a batch I’d seen there a couple or three weeks previously! It was totally dry and one of the small green tomatoes on it had dropped off and was down beside the stem. It was being ignored and that’s why I got it, although thinking It might be too late to have luck with it. I’ve never planted anything this late, except mums. Think of me with lucky wishes when you are out in your gardens!

Hi Jill, love the enthusiasm. I'm finishing my summer garden with red potatoes, Lemon Squash, and Yellow Scallop squash--planted yesterday. I have tons of beans, and may need more freezer space very soon, and I have another crop that is just starting to flower--Dragon Tongue, Golden, Blue Lake, and Cantare beans. I've already planted Purple Dragon, Kyoto Red and Uzbek Yellow Carrots, rutabagas, and turnips. Coming up, I will be planting Yod Fah, Chinese Cabbage, Bok Choy, Radishes, more turnips, beets, lettuce, endive, Swiss Chard, spinach, kale, mizuna, tatsoi, mustard, kale, and peas. I'm in the process of adding another 4x8 raised bed, so I can fit it all without having to pull up my peppers--No way, they stay until frost. I'm looking forward to fall tomatoes, Roma, Bonny's Best, and Dad's Sunset. I'm still getting a lot of cucumbers, with new vines replacing the old. I am going to try to keep the garden going year round with low tunnels.
