/ badgergoodger / badgergoodger / badgergoodger It's been three years since they were officially acquired by Rockstar, and we still haven't got much of an idea of what this smaller Rockstar studio in Scotland are doing yet.
I'd love to see Dundee and other studios working on their own small scale titles like the good old days. We got The Warriors and Bully this way, at least one or two studios work on a small game and the others will work on the big one.
This is pretty much the only Rockstar-related channel I've found on RU-vid that isn't RIDDLED with clickbait trash and filled to 10-15 of complete gibberish just to meet the ad time requirements. Simply, you upload videos and share information WHEN THERE IS ACTUALLY SOMETHING TO SHARE and don't repeat the same crap over and over and over again.
I wanted to pitch my own channel, since I also upload stuff mostly related to GTA, but then my channel is relatively small and more focused on custom GTA radio stations. Not a fair comparison, perhaps.
In case you're interested, Rockstar Dundee offices are also used for North employees in Dundee to work from Dundee remotely, I heard this from a friend here. Thought you might find it interesting. Also, your Edinburgh pronounciation was surprisingly alright
The place I work is 500 yards from Rockstar Lincoln and I literally see the same guy always in a Rockstar shirt (presumably) walking to work everyday as I’m leaving. It’s bizarre knowing they’ve had a hand in assisting development on some of your favourite games, and probably working on some new stuff we don’t even know about when they’re just a stones throw away.
Correction - Ruffian Games didn't develop remastered Halo games, they just did basic ports from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, and it was only the Original Xbox games (i.g. the games they didn't work on at all) that got graphical changes. The anniversary versions of the games were developed by Saber Interactive, Certain Affinity and Blur, with oversight by 343 Industries.
Most if not all Rockstar Dundee employees are credited on GTA Online and Red Dead Online. With this in mind, I expect they will continue to work on current and future online titles while the next GTA is developed by Rockstar North here in Edinburgh and Rockstar Lincoln (with support from other studios)
I think it's likely to happen, but I wouldn't count on multiplayer and Undead Nightmare being included with it. If we do get it, it's just going to be the base game itself. Which honestly I'm fine with, IF they do it correctly. I trust in-house studios to do it right but the fact that we're dealing with modern Rockstar has to be taken into account too. I know these studios are technically separate entities, but they will still be forced to answer to the Execs and Suits if they tell them to rush a project.
Saw another leak where the leaker claimed that Multiplayer will not be returning, but Undead Nightmare will be remastered/remade, I really hope this is the case
I don't think they'll use the bleeding edge RAGE9 that's powering GTA VI. You don't want an RDR remaster that looks better than RDR2, nor do you want a GTA IV remaster that outshines GTA V. You also don't want such old games trying to compete with the flagship GTA VI either. I'm thinking they might build it atop RDR2, so it'll still be absolutely stunning but not to be compared to GTA VI. That would also be cheaper and quicker to turn around.
@@halfbakedproductions7887 Yeah I agree, but if Rockstar remaster GTA and RDR giving PC a proper version and improving the textures as well as adding at least a couple of things they took out during development it would already be great.
La noire was a failure in sales unfortunately, thats why next game what was supposed to be done by the same studio who created LA noire - got canceled So probably, it will not happen unfortunately
@@dararohan1209 LA Noire 2 (Whore of the Orient) would have not been cancelled if Team Bondi didn't go under, LA Noire wasn't a Rockstar game entirely, Rockstar only acquired the game's publishing rights from Sony so i doubt they'll ever make a sequel. Team Bondi hoped that Rockstar would fully acquire them and be turned into a "Rockstar Sydney" but it never happened. LA Noire's development hell story is quite interesting.
What I would hope for someday outta Rockstar is a remake of GTA: Chinatown Wars. Either a Switch port or a full-fledged remaster of a game set in GTA IV's Liberty City.
R* Dundee has a pretty interesting history. They certainly have the chops for open-world games, and I very much enjoyed Crackdown 2 back in the day (many of the devs also worked on Crackdown 1 while at Real Time Worlds). Like Badger, the pragmatist in me has accepted that they'll be working on GTA Online for the foreseeable future, but it would be great to see them tackle a new full game, or at the very least, be lead on a R* Studios endeavor.
I know a guy who is at for Rockstar in scotland. The dundee ancestry is just that, they relocated just about everything to edinburgh. The GTA 6 leak from 2020 ( I think ) was actually 3 years old at the time so 2017. The GTA 6 map is actually going to be smaller than the GTA 5 map. They are just scanning assets now into the game so expect more customization. Areas of the game are worked on independently for the most part by different teams and then the whole map is glued together at the end.
It's been rumoured for a while now that the game is actually 'feature complete' and fully playable. It's just being tested to death and being bulked out with extra content to make it more immersive and detailed. I've known a few people who've worked in the Scottish gamedev industry over the years, some even at Rockstar North briefly during the RDR2 era (none of them work there now). Most of the tasks they carried out were pretty niche, rather mundane and done in isolation, then somehow it all folded together.
@@Alek1207Nah bro if gta iv gets remastered I'll play way more of that than a game that will probably have half the content of GTA VC's story mode for the online mode
It would be nice considering it’s my favorite, but I think it’d be best for everyone if they went full speed ahead with GTA 6 and also didn’t throw together a skeleton crew to make a shitty “remaster” of GTA 4 *cough* *cough* definitive trilogy *cough*
I lived in Dundee for a year. Probably one of the most miserable places in the world, bar some of the areas around the Uni. Not surprised they haven't been up to much, probably staring at the bottom of empty bottles.
I spent 5 years there on-off as a student. The student life was great and I never had any bother, but I don't think I'd choose to live there as a working adult with a normal life. Even at that time I don't recall seeing many people in suits etc. wandering the city at lunchtime or rush hour so it just felt like nobody was working. UoD and Abertay both had a lot of local students - even they said Dundee was a bit shit and didn't have much work. Many such people also commuted into Dundee from nicer places like the Ferry or rural Angus.
I’ve been to Dundee lots of times and always enjoyed it. Nice people and lots of nice parts, plus easy access to great rural locations nearby. Lots of development along the waterfront in recent years too. Sorry you had a bad time!
Little confused with the idea that Rockstar is "notoriously" very protective of their IPs, I don't think that's true at all, I think your thinking of Nintendo. I doubt that an RDR1 remaster will still contain the multiplayer, we've seen countless times with games on the PS3 getting ported to PS4 that they just cut the multiplayer altogether (The whole Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection removes all the multiplayer modes from each game). Fun fact: Tarantula Studios helped Rockstar make the Game Boy Colour ports of GTA1 & GTA2.
I think out of all the Rockstar games RDR makes the most sense to get a remake because it's a story prequel to RDR2. Most people never played the original game and it never got ported to PC.
Nice, yall mfs actually acknowledging my hometown is really jarring. 4J Studios are based here too. We got a really shit hot Game Design course at our local college. Wish our politicians went more all in on our heritage as a Gaming History tech town
4J did a really good job with the Perfect Dark remaster from 2010. That's all I played from them, but Britain overall has a ton of great developers and studios.
You missed Rockstar India which used to be Dhruva Interactive before the acquisition. They mostly worked on texture refining for other titles such as Mass Effect, COD, Death Stranding surprisingly. They’re pretty skilled at what they do and Rockstar has taken out a fuck-ton of loans to finance this one specific studio. If I was to hazard a guess, they’re developing and/or perfecting the textures of GTA 6 because a lot of the footage that leaked last year (or was it this year?) had names of Indian testers attached to the file name.
If an actual Rockstar studio handled the development of a GTA IV remaster by basically improving the graphics/lighting/draw distance (without fucking it up like GSG did), increasing traffic/pedestrian density, adding a few more interiors, and of course implementing some new gameplay improvements, such as the weapon wheel, etc., I'd die of happiness. It'd have to include The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, though. It's honestly a dream of mine right now, 'cause I miss IV's Liberty City so much but have no way of playing it.
@@anotheryoutubeaccount5259 Excuse me, but what exactly is so "rediculous" about my comment? Oh, and I'm not a "IV fanboy"; I'm a fanboy of GTA, RDR, and Rockstar's titles in general. Get it right next time.
@@anotheryoutubeaccount5259 You seem to have the wit of a five-year-old, to which I must insist on pointing out that you are much too young to be playing these types of games, junior. Now, go grab your bottle and take a nap so that us actual adults can attempt to have a real conversation.
So they have all of these studios that essentially do nothing except maybe work on Online updates and possibly gta 6, there should be no excuse on why Rockstar can’t assign a studio to work on other games like Midnight Club or another Bully game. You can chock it up to Take2 being stingy and not wanting to invest the money into new games but doing so would not only make them a big return but also make fans happy to see older IPs get new games. Also thank you Badger for not putting up a picture of an actual tarantula when you say tarantula games, I really hate spiders😂
I think people have forgotten about the Max Payne remakes by Remedy. While they are being made by Remedy, R* owns the titles, therefore those 2 "previously released titles" are probably just those Max Payne remakes.
fun fact: i know a guy who used to work at the office above rockstar dundee but their company forgot to pay the lease so out of nowhere rockstar went and bought it and the company had to leave. fun fact 2: The office has loads of security cameras, blured windows, and a security gaurd fun fact 3: its depressing in there
"What's Rockstar Dundee Up To?" I'm guessing killing goblins, and stopping some evil wizard from destroying the world... Especially the glory of Dundee.
I don’t understand with all these Rockstars why is Red Dead Redemption 2 the last project to be published. And before Red Dead Redemption 2 they haven’t released any games since 2013.
Videos game development is the hardest of all software development? I just find that kinda hard to believe. Like there are software engineers tasked with making cutting edge breakthroughs on a consistent basis. Mathematician building and maintaining complex algorithms. I’m not saying game development isn’t hard, but I think you’re underestimating the challenges faced by other software devs and how hard their work is. I mean these people build software that makes us change what we think is possible within computer science
im glad vadim M has you do the voice overs, it seems like you and me and vadim are the only gta enthusiast left that wanna know everything about the games because were not casuals that play the story once and dump the game forever. i beat gta games a hand full of times so i know more than i should. always nice to see people dig into the files and find stuff that will be cut or data mine to see whats in a future update. ima be playing gta 6 in performance mode if i dont get killed before the game comes out because i aim great in 60 fps but in 30fps for some reason in gta it feels like deadzones are cut in half in 30fps and you cannot smoothly drag the dot across each pixel by leaning in the stick slightly but with 60 you can track more pixels and aim smoothly with a sniper. i wonder if starting gta 6 out with free aim instantly will be a regret because i know recoil and kick with low stats will have to balance auto aim and i wont be using auto aim so it will be recoil combined with sway and no lock on.
Ruffian Games made Crackdown 2, after Microsoft and the defunct Realtime Worlds had a falling out. Rumour I heard was R* Dundee were bringing GTA Online onto the GTA VI codebase and working on the next gen of GTA Online. They also recently had engine (RAGE) development and generalist programmer positions open, whereas that used to be handled exclusively out of San Diego.
The Rockstar Empire colonising all these studios. I remember Ruffian Games making Crackdown 2. Makes me wish Rockstar owned that IP. The original Crackdown was made by Real Time Worlds, and there is some GTA link there; David Jones co-founded DMA Design, which is now Rockstar North.
When I visited Edinburgh, I actually drove by rockstar North and didn’t even know it was THE ROCKSTAR NORTH at the time😅. Had I known I would’ve stopped by and checked the place out if I was allowed to.
I don't think and I hope that Red Dead 1 does not get a remaster, but a remake re-using RDR2 engine, map and assets as a lot of Mexico is in there, but unfinished and you could tweak a lot of RDR2 models for returning characters, so that would probably be less work and better work than remastering the original. Also, I've heard that they lost the code.
i'm happy they are remastering the game take your time and make a good release. I'm sad that we didn't got the GTA Stories Remaster for PC in the trilogy remaster That would have been a great addition to the collection as I didnt complete GTA Liberty City Stories on my PSP way back when I was 7 and I used to just ride bikes and vehicle.
I hope rdr 1 is remastered in the rdr 2 engine, so almost a remake, however they add the rdo stuff into rdr2o. It would make sense for them to release them both and add a upgrade for new gen consoles for rdr2, and hopefully revive rdo.
This is exactly what I thought when I first heard the rumors of Dundee before the trilogy was officially announced. Rockstar have a la little bit more branches that weren’t mentioned in this video like Rockstar India for example and a majority of them mostly did/ do internal support for their current & future titles. Yes I know Toronto developed the Warriors & Leeds developed the stories games as well as Chinatown wars, but afterwards they just became support for bigger collaborations within other studios. So I just came to the conclusion that they were just another support studio and their GTA ONLINE credits only help me lean on that even more. Great video as always 🦡
I really was hoping Dundee was making the Definitive Editions, they had a track record of making pretty good remasters before being acquired by R*, after all
Red Dead Redemption port announced for PS4 and Switch, and is ported by Double Eleven Studios. Edit: Confirming R* Dundee's lack of involvement with the re-release.
all I know is that great games need a great Creative Director that has a vision and a goal, GTA's Dan Houser, Dark Souls's Miyazaki, Final Fantasy's Yoshi P, Metal Gear's Kojima, Dan leaving doesn't necessarily mean GTA will be garbage but he also took with him a lot of those veteran game developers, I don't completely trust them to do as well as the old team did
Well, if you know Leslie benzis (sry if i spelled that wrong) He was the main guy in updates and everything for gta online, but after 2014 he got fired, that's why pretty much every missions before 2014 had a unique cutscenes, voice dialogues and everything, but after he got fired - gta online slowly, but steady turned into shit, in 2017 we got Oppressor MK1, in 2019 MK2 and so on
@@dedster3164online was never rockstar's focus, its the detail, story and the immersion of the world they create and they naild it in rdr 2, gameplay is not for everyone i must say, it is slow i know but i have no problem with that. You might disagree but i undersatand your opinion.
