Where Does the Bible Say "Pray to Mary?"

This question is often leveled at Catholics and Orthodox Christians by those who feel that the practice of asking the saints for intercessory prayer is not biblical. In this video, former protestant pastor and Catholic convert Keith Nester explores this topic and makes the case that this practice is indeed biblical.

🌟 From the depths of homelessness and addiction to the embrace of Jesus, my life transformed into a testimony of His love. Now, I have a home, a loving wife, and a beautiful daughter. I stand as a living testament to the power of redemption. Hallelujah for the new identity I've found in being a child of God! 🙏🏡❤

James 5:16 , Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed, scripture is speaking to people who are alive to pray for each other not praying to dead people, our father is the prayer that christ jesus gave us , Matthew 6:9 , one mediator 1 Timothy 2: 5, one advocate 1 John: 1. The Godhead alone is omniscient, only God can hear prayers, any prayer directed to anyone but God, is prayers to idols , as for revelation 12, it's not mary its Israel, mary of Catholicism is not mary of scripture, God's word, mary was a sinner like all mankind, Roman 3:23, mary died like us all because of sin , Roman's 6 : 23 , jesus never elevated mary, that's man made teachings, she is the mother of jesus, not God who is eternal, all blasphemous teachings against the one true God, christ is the only mediator, the only way to the Father , the sinless lamb of God, only one who could do what no one through history could do was to live a sinless life and give his life as a ransom to the Father for sinners, catholic teachings do not line up with scripture, so only one can be right God's infallible and inerrant word stands alone as truth .

Hey Melanie, of course I will do. A bit of background, I was raised Catholic and during my teen years, I really moved away from my believes. Life seemed fine and went on to college and grad school. During grad school, I met my, now wife, who is a devoted catholic. I even said to her to not expect me to go to church with her. Obviously, since I love her so much, I would go with her to Church almost every Sunday, but I was just sitting there, not really immersed in Mass. Fast forward a few years, during the pandemic, my wife asked me to pray the Rosary everyday to consagrate our new born with the immaculate heart of Mary. During the prayer, my 2 month old daughter started laughing and I started smelling flowers. It was beautiful. That was my first encountered but I didn’t make much of it. A year after, we were praying the Rosary again because my wife wanted me to. We put some flowers in Holy Water and prayed. I went to sleep and I dreamed of the Virgin Mary. She said to me: don’t worry Diego, all will be okay. The day after, I had scheduled a follow up upper endoscopy just to make sure I didn’t have any pre-cancerous condition from my severe acid reflux. The endoscopy came clean and I just couldn’t believe it. Like if nothing happened. I called the doctor to tell her that the results were a mistake, and she said no that it was what she had seen. I was perplexed. At this point, I started believing a bit more again. The last encounter happened just 2 weeks after when my wife and I went to Mexico City. We went to the Basicila of Guadalupe and when I saw the Virgin’s image, it felt like she told me: Diego, you’ve been looking for answers for many years now and nothing has worked. Go back to the Lord as He is the answer to all your problems. I must say that my marriage has been difficult mostly because of our families and I was falling in depression because I just didn’t know what else to try. This time, I heard the Virgin and actually did what she said to me. I started praying more. I grabbed the Bible and started reading more. My life has changed a lot since then. If it wasn’t for our blessed mother, I’d just be another sheep stray. But she brought me back to the Lord and I can say that things have improved in my life. When things don’t go my way, I don’t blame the Lord anymore but my own free will since that’s when issues start happening.

Jesus said He will build His church on Peter, and give Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven and whatever Peter holds bound on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever Peter hold loosed on earth will be loosed in heaven. Jesus started a church. The word Catholic was first used in the 1st century because it was the universal church. Jesus also stated that the gates of hell would never prevail against His church. I am born and raised orthodox. And it wasn't until adulthood that I realized we had to pray to Mary. I really appreciate how you say that you want to answer people's sincere questions. I am struggling with this sooo terribly. I never prayed to anyone but God. Never thought about it. Grew reading the bible. Grew up constantly seeking God. Then after 20 years in an atheist country I came back to my orthodox country where I have been basically told that if I don't pray to Mary I am disrespecting God. I am disobeying God. And I am suspicious to all for not praying to Mary and the saints, but especially Mary. Can anyone please please please help. As I can't do this. I met a man just today. An older man, who randomly struck a conversation with me saying he believes in Mary. I pressed him about Jesus, but he kept refusing to acknowledge Jesus, and said that Mary healed him a number of times and that he just believes in Mary. Now, I know you say we aren't praying to her we are asking for her intercession. But the akathists, the paraclises, if they aren't worship, if their wording isn't meant to create confusion, then I don't understand what worship is then. If it smells like a dog, and barks like a dog and looks like a dog. Why are you calling it not a dog? This is what I struggle with the most. Because if ever I nerd help form the church, I am given only one solution. Go home and pray to Mary. That's that. How is this not worship? Which one of you has time to devout 1.5hrs (which is how long the paraclises takes to read) to Mary? And then where do you fit prayer to God?? Where is your relationship with God? Why aren't we allowed a relationship with God? Aren't we meant to be one of the saints? Each of us? Who are supposed to love God with all our heart and all our might? Will Mary stand besides each of us in the day of judgement when our lives are weighed and cover for us?? How is this anything to do with what the Bible teaches? How? I sincerely want to repent and be told I am wrong if I am wrong. But I sincerely cant see the truth of this. Please help.

ok brother, seems like you cannot yet accept the concept of 'intercessory prayer'... that'll be the first hurdle for you to overcome. As Keith was mentionning the *saints are alive in Heaven, can receive our prayers/requests and take them to God* , he cited scripture to back this up. Do you accept that? Then you have to realize that some 'people' are more efficacious than others when praying/asking God, right? James 5:16 “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”.

If you want to be saved just pray to Jesus telling Him that you *believe* He died on the cross for your sins, then simply *ask Him* to set you free from sin. Exodus 20:3-17. That's it. And Jesus will immediately *trade life's records* with yours, replacing your sinful life with His perfect one, your guilty with His _not guilty_ so you can prepare yourself for judgment. It's easy! Do it now.

As Catholics, the holy bible teach us, only the human body dies but our soul (spiritual body) still lives (temporal) until the day on final judgement. When our body dies, our souls will then get a temporal judgement. We either go to heaven, hell or purification (purgatory). Our dead bodies can't hear but our souls can. In that sense all our prayers and intentions can be heard and ask the angels and saints including Mary for the intercession of our prayers to God. But we can also pray and worship directly to God. And worship deserve only to God. We can only show respect for Mary but not worship her. That's why in the Holy Rosary we say Mother Mary ... pray for us.And not Mother Mary... I pray to you or worship you. We ask our Mother Mary's help to pray to God so that our intentions will be heard. Just imagine how Mary played an important role when Jesus did the first miracle on the wedding at Cana. Even Jesus told her that the time has not come for Him to do so but He did it anyway because of her insistence and his love and respect to her Mother. That's how influential she is.

Satan is undoubtedly using a Mind blogging Satanic through the teaching from his servants.. Mary, is the Elect Lady (1 Jn 2:1;) the favored one (Luk 1:28;) Are believers in Lord Yeshua Messiah to seek her intercession in their prayer to God the Father, God the Spirit (Jn 4:24;) Does the Bible teach us so ? How did Enoch and Noah walked with God ? How was Noah, Daniel and Job were righteous before God? How was Abraham called a friend of God ? Why not we examine Sacred Writings as to whether Mary, the Elect Lady has any role in our daily life? Mark 12:17; RENDER TO GOD the things that are God's. (My son, give glory to the LORD God of Israel and give praise to him) Colossians 3:17; And whatever you do, in word or deed, DO EVERYTHING IN THE NAME OF the Lord Yeshua , giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Not in the name of Mary) What about adoration of Mary ? Mathew 4:10; Then Yeshua said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’ Rev 19:10; “Worship God.” Rev 22:5, 9; “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.”Worship God” Psalms 34:1; I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth (not the name of Mary) Luk 24:51-52; He parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem. Who were “THEY” “THEM” that worshipped Lord Yeshua? Mary, the mother, (2 John 1:1) the Elect lady was she not there among those who worshipped Lord Yeshua ? Acts 1:14; All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. My question to the false teachers, why don’t you agree with what is written in the Sacred Writings? Why are you teaching the naive to go beyond what is written ? (1 Cor 4:6;) Beyond what is taught by the Apostles? Will we receive the Lord, will we receive the Holy Spirit (John 13:20; Acts 5:32;). The Scripture teaches us, No. Mat 28:9,17; “behold, Yeshua met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him”. ”when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted” I ask the priest? I ask the False Teachers ? Is there any other mediator between Man and God ? 1 Timothy 2:5; there is one God, and there is ONE MEDIATOR between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua” Romans 8:34; Messiah Yeshua is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who indeed IS INTERCEDING FOR US” . Now tell me False priest, false teacher, do we need another mediator, another intercessor ? Joel 3:22; EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD shall be saved Romans 10:12-13; For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED” Let me ask, if there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, tell me will any Jew who believed in Lord Yeshua worshipped Mary? The Apostles were they not Jews, did they prayed for her intercession? No. Don’t you have read what Apostle John wrote in the epistle addressed to Mary? 2 Jn 1:4,8; I rejoiced greatly to find SOME OF YOUR CHILDREN walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father... WATCH YOURSELVES, SO THAT YOU MAY NOT LOSE what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. HOW YOU DECEIVERS HAVE CORRUPTED THE BELIEVERS WITH YOUR TEACHING ? From where does this Mind blogging theology come from ? This teaching is not from God. Hebrews 13:9; Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings”. Are we greater than the Lord and his teaching ? So what are you doing through this video ? Titus 1:11; they are UPSETTING WHOLE FAMILIES by TEACHING for shameful gain WHAT THEY OUGHT NOT TO TEACH” What does the video tells us ? Is it not the fulfilment of 2 Th 2:3; The Gospel came around 2000 years back, to the Jews first. At that time only one type of rebellion - the Gentiles with beliefs like Hinduism, Egyptian, Greek, Roman deities. Few Jews received the Gospel and some Gentiles were grafted in, but later, the Jews rebelled in the form of Judaism based on the oral Torah, while the Gentile believers formed a new religion called Christianity (replacing Christian Faith and discipleship, following the synod of Nicaea, Constantinople and Ephesus ) and later in the sixth century, the region where the seven churches mentioned in the book of Revelation existed, the people turned into another religion called Islam. Is not this the rebellion mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:3; LET NO ONE DECEIVE YOU IN ANY WAY. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first,... Yes, the Rebellion has come in the form of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Messiah did not come to make a new religion, but for what ? Who will teach you False priests/teachers or false pastors the way of God more accurately like when Priscilla and Aquila heard Apollos, heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. (Acts 18:24-26;) You have no knowledge of the Truth, but just repeating what you learned in the Seminary and passing it down to the blind laity. No one has ever received the Lord from the Seminary or from the book, but you are just trained to follow Christianity, its traditions and practices. To come to Messiah or Christian Faith, you have to be a disciple first. Don’t you know the question from the Lord, John 15:8; SO PROVE TO BE MY DISCIPLES. There is a TEST, (2 Cor 13:5-6;) you have not passed the TEST. Let me conclude with Romans 10:16; But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” Gospel came to bring obedience Romans 16:26; according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith- to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen Romans 15:18; to bring the Gentiles to obedience-by word and deed” Where is your obedience to the only wise God ? What then is Christianity ? They teach and practice Romans 18:16-17; contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive” Colossians 2:22-23; according to human precepts and teachings? These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value” Yes, Christianity is of no value, instead seek to be a Christian, his praise is from the Lord. 1 Jn 5:19,18; the whole world lies in the power of the evil one...but he who was born of God protects him (the Disciple) , and the evil one does not touch him” It is not Mary, who protects you ? Who are these False Teachers ? 2 Cor 11:13-15; such men are false apostles, DECEITFUL WORKMEN, DISGUISING THEMSELVES as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even SATAN disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if HIS SERVANTS, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds” I am not a priest or a pastor, or a teacher. So you can correct me, if I am wrong, but do not forget to quote from the Sacred Writings, while refuting me. Colossians 3:16; Let the word of Messiah (Christ) dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Mary the Elect Lady - elected for God’s purpose and not for pagan worship) Let me close my comments by repeating the words of my Lord “ “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’ Jn 4:24,22; God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth...TRUE WORSHIPERS WILL WORSHIP the Father IN SPIRIT and TRUTH, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. Former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, of Canada, was a mamma's boy who lived with his mother until he was 40. He prayed to Mary twice a day. He married a woman who was a tramp. He was kind to women who were decent but was cruel to women that were sleazy. Quebec was the most Catholic part of North America for two hundred years. Yet women in Quebec could not vote in provincial elections until 1942. The men in Quebec prayed to Mary but treated their own women as second class citizens. Protestants in the USA treated their own women better than Catholic men in Quebec.

@@bluesky45299 we believe in trinity because it’s reality is shown in the Bible and as Catholics, we believe in the Christian Bible, not the Quran. Christ calls to his father as being God and Jesus says, “before Abraham was, I Am” showing us that he is in union, a person of the holy trinity, with God the Father, since at the burning bush, God the Father told Moses he was “I Am.” It’s totally possible for perfection to exist in 3 different persons, because it is a holy trinity, because they make up the single one God, and it isn’t impossible for God to be perfect in 3 persons, if it was impossible, then he wouldn’t be God because nothing is impossible for God and Jesus Christ himself said that he is God throughout the Gospel, as I mentioned. I would say put down the Quran and pick up the Bible, preferably the Douay-Rheims translation, and use that for your source of truth, because it is the source of truth

Not the same thing AT ALL -- Lazarus and the Rich Man were both physically dead and their living Spirits in Sheol -- Lazarus was in a pleasant place called Abraham's Bosom where the Spirits of believers went to wait for Jesus to die on the cross and come to Sheol to set them free* (1Peter 3:18-20, 1Peter 4:5-6) -- *and the Jewish Rich Man was in the fiery torment of Hell for unbelievers -- these two compartments in Sheol could see each other and the Spirits could commune with each other* (Luke 16:22-26. *But Jesus set the Believers in Abraham's Bosom free -- they resurrected with Jesus 2000 years ago* -- Matthew 27:52-53 -- *Jesus being FIRST Fruit of that resurrection* -- 1Corinth 15:20. *NOW the living Spirits of Believers go directly to Heaven when they physically die* -- Phil 1:23-24, 2Corinth 5:6-8, etc -- *and once in Heaven, the Believers are only focused on praising and worshiping GOD/Jesus* -- see Revelation 5:9-13, Rev 7:9-12 -- *they are not aware of the horrors and suffering on earth* -- Revelation 21:4 -- *so praying/asking assistance of them is a waste of time.* *GOD/Jesus have told you* (a physically alive Believer) *to pray/ask assistance ONLY FROM THEM* -- John 14:13-14, Matthew 6:7-9, Isaiah 8:19, etc -- *GOD has FORBIDDEN His people to ever pray/ask assistance from the living Spirits of physically dead Saints/Believers -- that is the satanic work of witches and mediums -- LOOK at what God did to Saul for asking assistance of the living Spirit of physically dead Saint Samuel in 1Samuel **28:15** and 1Chron **10:15* -- please know that the OT is our example (1Corinth 10:11)

I have a question though: catholics say that they're not worshipping, just talking, asking for help, etc. . However, I have seen many also bow to the statue of Mary during those prayers. Like get on their, knees before a mary statue to say a whole rosary(even though repetative prayers are put down in the Bible). Yes, you may say that bowing is not worship, but when John bowed to the angel and when I think Peter was bowed too, why did they stop it immediately? Both the angel and Peter clearly said to stop because they are just servants of the Lord. Why is that considered different now? Wouldn't that still be worship since it's the same action? Second, since prayer to saints is said to be talking/asking to the ones who aren't on earth anymore, why is it that Saul was punished for trying to talk to Samuel? (1 samuel 28). Yes, he used a medium, but he just wanted help from a godly, holy man, right? While we don't use mediums to pray to the saints, couldn't it be considered a form of self-mediumship since we are connecting, talking, and asking for help to a person who's no longer alive on earth? Yes, we're not actively summoning them physically but isn't that still technically the same thing? We can get dreams and manifestations of Mary, isn't that sort of like how mediums can hear what the "dead" are saying? It is a manifestation of some kind or another.

If you are bowing before someone as an act of worship and that is your intent, well then your intent is worship. If you are bowing as a sign of respect like people do before royalty and your intent is to demonstrate your respect for their appointment it's just that and physical display and nothing more. We are just demonstrating our respect for the appointment of Mary. Don't worry so much it can paralyze you. It's has done that to me before. It's not healthy. The rosary is just another tool or physical act to help make a spiritual difference. Mt wife has a vivid imagination and when she becomes angst or upset or overwhelmed by something she will recite the rosary to give her mind a positive healthy thing to do rather than let it go on a rampage. Don't over think this stuff too much. Ask your questions and accept the answers. I was previously protestant and there was so much fear and intimidation in the way to think. I like most people was wooed by the peace of the Mass, especially orthodoxy. Here's is what helped me...the fact is any congregation of any faith in the world is going to have fake believers in the pews and genuine, and it might even change moment to moment...what matters to God is what is in your heart.

For us catholics, we understand our relationship with the saints and angels and our departed brethren as a "communion of saints". Those who departed from this life faithfully to Christ, are indeed saved. The saved are indeed in heaven enjoying the beatific vision of our God. Therefore "dead" saints are actually living in God's presence, just like the angels. And being in the communion of saints, we can indeed ask for their intercession. Our protestant brethren do not believe in the communion of saints, they're missing out on a lot of help to get us through this hard life. Thanks Keith for a very good podcast.

YOU: Therefore "dead" saints are actually living in God's presence, just like the angels. *ME: Right. But GOD has forbidden His people to speak to the living Spirits of physically dead Saints -- its called necromancy and is the work of witches and mediums.* Since the OT is our example (1Corinth 10:11) -- we can clearly see what GOD did to Saul for asking assistance of the Spirit of physically dead Saint Samuel in. 1Samuel 28:15 and 1Chron 10:14 -- suggest you read GOD's opinion. *That is why there is NEVER a verse in God's written Scripture that says to pray to anyone except GOD/Jesus* -- see John 14:13-14, Matthew 6:7-9, Phil 4:6, Acts 12:5, Isaiah 8:19, etc Every time you speak to or ask assistance of a Spirit of a physically dead Saint/Believer, you are doing the work of a witch. *Besides, those Saints/Believers in Heaven are focused on praising and worshiping GOD/Jesus, they are not aware or concerned about your Aunt Betsy's cancer, etc -- see Revelation 5:9-13, Revelation 7:9-12.* The ONLY prayers/requests of believers in Heaven is for GOD to avenge their deaths at the hands of those on the earth -- Rev 6:9-10 -- and GOD answers that prayer/request by sending fire from the altar in Heaven to the earth -- Rev 8:3-5. It is a complete waste of time for you to ask a Saint/Believer in Heaven for assistance -- they are in the joy of HEAVEN, they are not aware of the horrors or trouble on earth.

@veritasmuy2407 5 месяцев назад
YOU: our relationship with the saints and angels *ME: Angels only respond to the directions/instructions/words of GOD -- Psalm 103:20 -- angels do not respond to humans -- humans are to PRAY TO GOD, and if God chooses, He will command an Angel to minister/help the human -- see Peter's example in Acts 12:5-11.* If you experience a beautiful "vision of light" that you think is an Angel communing with you, you have been deceived by Satan -- see 2Corinth 11:14. *Like that "vision of light" at Fatima was Satanic -- it even did the SAME satanic miracle that the evil end time Anti-Christ will do in Revelation 13:13-14* -- made a ball of fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of men, and DECEIVED those dwelling on the earth by that miracle.

You do know that Jesus and Mary were both alive, breathing and could communicate. Bad news my friend, those in the grave cannot hear nor speak. The question Jesus asks His mother isn’t rude, either. It may sound rude in the KJV: “What have I to do with thee?” (John 2:4), but it was a common idiom. In the Greek, Jesus’ question is “Ti emoi kai soi?” The phrase was used to ask of the connection between two people. The question could be translated as “What business do we have with each other?” Or, in less formal terms, “What does this have to do with me?” (ESV) or “Why do you involve me?” (NIV). Again, Jesus is expressing the fact that He is independent of His mother; as eager as Mary was to see Jesus do a miracle, she had no right to determine the time or the manner in which Jesus publicly revealed His glory. Jesus makes His point gently and without being rude, however. Jesus concludes His statement to Mary with, “My hour has not yet come.” The reference to His “hour” or “time” (NET) means that Jesus was constantly working from a divine timetable. So, He wasn’t going to reveal His power sooner than God the Father intended (see John 5:30). One of the points Jesus made in His temptation in the desert was that there is such a thing as doing the right thing for the wrong reasons (Matthew 4:1-10). That is, it would be wrong to perform a miracle if the time and place are not according to God’s will.

Also the Caananite woman who asked Jesus for a miracle but Jesus said no because it wasn't the time for the gentiles, but Lord Jesus was moved by her faith he ended up performing a miracle for her even though it wasn't the time for gentiles. So should we ask her to pray for us too? 🤔 Matthew 15:21-28 The Faith of a Canaanite Woman 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.” 23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” 25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. 26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” 27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” 28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

That's how all idol worship starts. Over the generations the "doctrines" become more convulated, more complex, more ridiculous. And people start inventing their own fantasies willy nilly, everything goes in the end. There's always a "reason", a justification. Just look at all the twists and turns and overturns that has to be made to support these "arguments", I can literally see the degradation happening in front of my eyes. Its so sad. I come from a culture that is steeped in it. I've studied, compared & contrasted, reflected and thought long and hard. Its sad to see the same old thing happening again, and again, and again. Especially with Catholicism, which was founded upon Truth. Do you really think this is what Jesus wanted for His followers?

@@PerpetualPreponderer This was practiced by all churches worldwide from the time of the apostles and we have written evidence going all the way back to 80 AD that the early church universally practiced prayers to the saints. It was the muslims who decided that this was idolatry, and later on the protestant reformers decided to adopt this muslim beliefs when they split from Rome. I think the confusion begins when people don't understand that praying is not worship but communication, and that sacrifice is what worship is. So we believe that asking a saint for their prayers is no different then asking another human on earth to pray for us. But if we saw someone actually burn a sacrifice to a saint we would condemn it as idolatry. And Yes, I do believe that Jesus really wanted His followers to pray for each other, both on earth and in heaven. Wouldn't it be unloving if you have moved to another location and you decided that you no longer were going to pray for your loved ones or recieve their prayer requests? Why then would we stop praying for our loved ones simply because we moved to a new location called heaven?

I grew up Catholic. I was confirmed. Later on in life I was saved and studied the Word of God on my own. I have a Catholic Bible, I appreciate the Catholic canon for the extra books it has such as the wonderful Book of Sirach, or Ecclesiasticus. I do not embrace their church or heretical teachings. Calling a man Holy Father goes directly against what Jesus Christ taught. Do not pray using vain repetitions. These teachings are taught in the Sermon on the Mount. Praying to statues is idolatry, graven images as the Bible calls it. "And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it." - Luke 11:27-28 Someone says to Jesus that Mary is blessed and he immediately corrects them and says blessed instead are those who keep the Word of God. "And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" - Luke 2:48-49 Mary says Joseph and her have been looking for Him and he immediately corrects her and says the God is His Father and not Joseph. Anyway I hope you pursue biblical truth, and no matter where you go please make sure you compare your preacher's teachings with what is in the Word of God. God bless you 🙏

I can show you but it's a lie from Satan. Catechism of the Catholic church 966 "Finally the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death." The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son's Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians: In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.

It is a great consolation to have a human mother chosen by God to give birth to a Divine Son to die for our sins. She knows all about it, and I trust in her who knows suffering. I'm not Catholic, but I'm beginning to understand this idea of intercession that they believe. For Catholics, all the saints, including Mary, are with God in heaven. To them, all believers both living and dead are family. In this sense, when you ask someone on earth to pray for you, there is no difference in asking for one of the saints in heaven to pray for you. We are not all alone, we have others who have helped us in this life from parents and teachers to friends, some are still alive and some have passed on. Hey, thank you for clearing it up for those who are confused about it. As a born Catholic, I always receive questions from my friends who are either Christian or Anglican that "Oh you're catholic so you pray to Mary and not Jesus? You guys don't believe in Jesus and worship Mary." And I was like, "No..?" Because in my experiences with the Roman Catholic church masses, people can come in and also see that we do not pray directly to Mother Mary, we pray to Jesus Christ and read passages in the Bible all the time. Even when I do my personal prayers, I pray to Jesus Christ all the time. The only time we pray for intercession with Mother Mary is the Holy Rosary prayer, where yes, as you mentioned we pray the 'Our Father' prayer a lot in it as well as 'Glory Be' prayer together. I don't exactly know the reason why we do intercessions with Mother Mary as well, but I was taught that praying the Holy Rosary is a weapon against sin. When we pray it, it's praying for redemption of sin not just for us but for all the sinners in the world as well. I find it personally a very humbling act of praise and worship, and like you said in this video, we don't exactly pray to the saints as well. In the Holy Rosary prayer sessions that I went to for years, at the end of the prayer we will ask the Saints, Mother Mary and Michael the Archangel to pray for us after meditating on the 5 mysteries (There is 4 sets of it, it's changing depending on the day you pray, the mysteries are all events of Jesus' journey in the Bible). I see it as it is, it's like asking your church community to pray for you because prayer is powerful when its in a group. I believe it is what you said that we're asking those that are in heaven now with God to pray for us because they are near God, literally in heaven where God is. The more prayers the better to fight off sin and build His kingdom.

The early church and successors of the original 12 apostles prayed asking Mary’s intercession. And at the wedding of Canna, Jesus wasn’t ready to perform a miracle in public yet & to turn water into wine, but Mary asked him to and He wanted to do that for His mother so He did. He loves His mother and so just as we ask our friends to pray for us, we ask those in Heaven to pray (which just means-to ask) Jesus for us since they are in Heaven with Jesus. Praying is not a form of worship. Worship requires a sacrifice; it always has. But Protestants believe that praying is worshiping.

@@sammygomes7381 if you look at the earliest Christians you will see that they did ask (pray) for intercession from saints, they believed in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist (consecrated bread by a priest), all popes and bishops can trace their ordination (by laying on of hands) all the way back to Peter. The keys of the kingdom were given to Peter to bind and loose and he started His Church. The gates of Hell will not prevail against it. In addition when we ask for intercession from a saint, we are always praying to Jesus and asking for a saint (people in Heaven) to pray to Jesus for us as well as we pray to Jesus. We aren’t praying in the sense that you think. We ask for them to pray with us. I should have clarified that better in my original post. We believe in the communion of saints. We can pray for the souls who are in the process of purification in purgatory, and the saints in Heaven actually can pray for us. @@MelaniesManicures It wasn't the early Christians that believed in praying to saints and that Christ was in the bread but Catholics. Christ taught and the apostles followed only praying to God. You will not find where either of them prayed to anyone other than the Father and Christ taught this in several places. Christ never taught He is in the bread. He taught that as bread is required for life in the flesh, God's word is required for life for eternal life. There is no place in the bible that the apostles taught Christ was in the bread or that anyone could put Him there. They simply broke bread in remembrance of the price He paid as Christ commanded. What did the apostles teach on salvation? The grace of God is for faith in Christ, not eating Him but believing in Him. John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me shall never hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst." Whoever comes to me Christ didn’t say eat, but believe. Every Christian has the key to heaven, it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The gates of hell came close to prevailing against His church, but God sent the reformation. The bible does not teach praying to anyone other than God and I am pretty sue he didn't tell us to seek out those dead in the flesh. Communion of the saints doesn't mean communication with the saints. The communion of the saints refers to believers in the past, believers in the present, and believers in the years to come sharing a common salvation in our Savior the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who have passed from this world into the presence of Christ at the death of their body have the same salvation as believers who are alive today. Those who will come after us will have the same salvation we have. The communion of saints is what each one of us has in common with all other believers. We have been forgiven through His death and saved by His life (Romans 5:10), set free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2), and passed from spiritual death to eternal life (1 John 3:16). We have all been permanently adopted as children of God by the will of God (John 1:12-13). We have become God’s handiwork to do good works that He has prepared for us (Ephesians 2:10), and we have all been given an eternal home in the New Jerusalem in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Lamb, our Temple, and our Light (Revelation 21:22-27). These are only a few of the blessings we have in common with all other believers. Lastly when we die our destiny is sealed. Heaven or hell. Again, don't confuse what early Christians believed and Catholics believed and what Christ and the apostles taught. Many blessings in the new year.

I was raised Protestant and am exploring the subject of learning about Catholicism, so thanks for this explanation, as this issue has been completely foreign to me. It sounds like to Catholics, "prayer" means not exclusively worship, but communication. It sounds like Jesus prayed to the Father, but also the "dead" at the transfiguration. We ask other Christians to pray on our behalf all the time, which answers the question "why not just pray directly to God?" Obviously, the same question could be asked whenever we ask someone else to pray for us. The Bible explains that those in Heaven are witnesses to us, they rejoice when we come ti the Lord, and they are praying to the Father, and its a safe assumption that they aren't praying for themselves (to me that sounds like a very reasonable assumption, even if we don't know for sure). I also have learned that Catholics (correct me if im wrong) view the Church as one, The Church Militant (those of us in our current struggle here on earth) and the Church Victorious (those who have won eternal life), so I'd assume that Catholics believe that asking a Saint to intercede in prayer is much like asking a father, bishop, elder or fellow church member for prayer? Thanks for this concise, well communicated explanation of your position! I feel i learned a lot (more than i ever knew on the subject), and in about 10 minutes no less!

Praying for someone and praying to someone are different things altogether. I could pray for my mother because God will hear it. But, if I pray, to my mother, it would fall on death's ears as she is dead. Let me tell you why I pray for Mary's intercession. I was born and raised catholic. Left church as an young adult, converted few years into adulthood and... went to the local evangelical church, thinking they must have all the anwers. I did not understand, at time, any of catholic teachings. I wanted nothing to do with the Catholic Church. But God had other plans. There are many reasons I decided to left that evangelical church, but it would take way too long to share them. I did it and then asked myself - now what? Another protestant denomination? I can't just... not go to the church. But what if I would go back to the Catholic Church? "Nah", I thought. "Yeah", God said. I believe the Holy Spirit took that thought and took on me on a crazy ride - few days later I realised, I do believe in purgatory, Mary and all the dogmas I could remember. That was only a preview, as I'm an amateur theologist and I do my research. It took me some time to go back to my old parish and talk to the rector. I went the official way and I was going to enter the confession... which I did struggle with the most. And by that time, all the issues from my past, including ones from the former church, and tough situation at work... took it's toll. I went on sick leave for over a month, stressed and depressed, and I've lost myself completely. I could not find my way back to Christ. I was truly desperate, so... I prayed to Mary, not only asked her for help, but entrusted myself completely to her hands. It helped - I've softened to the idea of the confession and went straight to the loving arms of our Lord! Since then, She is with me constantly, guiding me gently and always towards Her Son. She never keeps anything for Herself, cause She always points and leads to Her beloved Son. Why pray for Mary's intercession then? It's simple - She asks Her Son to do something in our lives, through the Holy Spirit, and whatever She is asking is always Father's will. She is so close with the Holy Trinity. She is revered as the Mother by the Son, She serves the Father as the obedient Daughter, and She is the beloved Spouse of the Holy Spirit. To make it simple - She is awesome, because God is awesome. It's all about God giving Her fullness of the grace, so She could be born without the original sin, live a sinless life, bear His Son willingly, raise Him to be the man He was and be the Mother of the nascent Church. All the glory to God, cause She is the humblest of us all, elevated by God to be the Queen of Heaven, so She could still serve His church as the Handmaid of the Lord.

I wish if you had read the Bible once in your life, you would have never said this kind of nonsense. Did you see what Jesus replied when Mary came for a request when wine was finished? John 2:4 - 4. *“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”* (Please read carefully - Woman, why do you involve me?, did Jesus really need Mary's interference?) Another verse when Mary and her sons wanted to meet Jesus when he was preaching to the crowd, look what Jesus said - Matthew 12:47-50 - 47. Someone told him, *“Your mother and brothers are standing outside,* wanting to speak to you.” 48. He replied to him, *“Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49. Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”* (Did you see - someone told Jesus "Your mother and brothers standing outside" Do you still wanted to called Mary a vergin? What was Jesus replied - Who is my mother, and who are my brothers? Do you still need a mediator between God and Jesus? May God open your eyes.) Please read the Holy Bible; you don't need any other explanations to know God. The Bible is the only Holy Book given to us that leads us to God. A few verses I will post it here for your reference. - 1 Timothy 2:5-6 *5. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6. who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.* 1 Corinthians 3:4-8 4. When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world? 5. After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. *6. I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow.* 7. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. 8. The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. Matthew 24:35 *35. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.* I hope this makes sense. God bless you 😊

There are statues all around in most Catholic churches, and they do pray to Mary! He never mentioned whether the dead saints answer any of their prayers, why pray to anyone who doesn't answer? And to have any image of Jesus, Mary, the angels, or the apostles contradicts the Law fo God, which says clearly we are not to make graven images or likenesses of the Lord!

We do not worship her but we show the respect due her and ask for her to pray for us. Have you ever asked your mother to pray for you? I hope you have So if you would ask your earthly mother to pray for you why then would you not ask the mother of our Lord also? And please don’t tell me that the saints in heaven are dead. Several times in the bible you will read about the prayers of the saints, including Revelations. Mary is also referred to as St Mary. Btw Jesus was perfect and therefore followed the Commandments perfectly. Remember we are to honor our Mother and our Father. Jesus would have kept that commandment to honor his mother Mary. There was a hym written by an unknown author dated between 3rd and 5th century that's the first of anything about her being in liturgy. It's crazy that they have such blinders on when it comes to this topic. You would expect it to be all over the ante-nicene literature but it's completely absent.

@@natearmendariz2851 John Rylands Papyrus 470 records a prayer to our mother around 250 A.D. To put that in historical contact the bible wasn't canonized until the late 4th century. Theology on Mary is spoken about by Justin Martyr, St. Irenaeus, Tertullian etc. before the council of Nicaea or the word trinity was even used. Ideas that came up in 16 century renaissance Germany are modern and not found at all in Christian history and should be ignored as modern ideas.

@natearmendariz2851 2 месяца назад
@andrewsmith576 yes this is the Sub tuum praesidium that you're speaking of I believe, some scholars have also dated it in the 4th century (some even later) as well but I of course understand that as a Catholic you will go with the earliest possible dating. I still see this as very weak evidence given we don't know the author. To just say that someone somewhere wrote a prayer with the words theotokos in it between 250 to 350 years after Jesus doesn't mean anything, you can find gross heresies from Christian gnostics as early as the 2nd century. It would be different if it actually came from a Clement or Ignatius type character that was a trustworthy source. But again no such prayer is mentioned from the apostolic fathers Yes I'm familiar with men like Justin and Irenaeus mentioning Mary, I respect both of those men's writings immensely but they say nothing of praying to Mary. I'm not sure how Justin referring to Mary as the second eve has anything to do with what we're talking about here. A prayer 250 to 350 years after Jesus with no clear connection to the church fathers cannot be embraced with such certainty. The world was rife with all manner of heresy at this point already. The NT wasnt officially canonized until the 4th century but if you read men like Irenaeus you see already lists the 4 gospels accordingly and quotes from every Pauline text that we have today as well as from books like Revelation and Hebrews, never once quoting something as scripture that's foreign to the NT we have today. My point is that you can trace sound doctrine back to the earliest sources. If you can't find prayer to Marry in any of the early literature then why do it?

It wasn't Jesus time yet for the gentiles yet her faith got him to perform a miracle for her Matthew 15:21-28 The Faith of a Canaanite Woman 21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

No one will answer you because this heresy that she was without sin, cannot be answered correctly with the word of God. Mary had the same nature of sin as every human being and therefore she too needed a Savior, as she herself states in the passage you quoted. There is no verse in the entire Bible that says this woman did not have the sin nature. Sin is passed on from father to son or daughter and not even God can change this. So Mary's father passed on the sin nature to her, just as every father passes it on to her children. In order for Jesus to be preserved, he was conceived by the Holy Spirit. How did Enoch and Noah walked with God ? How was Noah, Daniel and Job were righteous before God? How was Abraham called a friend of God ? A non-Christian saw the vision of Mary and he came to the Church to find out what it meant. He later realized he was protected from deadly danger when she was seen by him!!!! Happened in 2007. 🙏🕊️✝️

Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. [15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16] Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. How can you draw near directly if you perceive a false need of him needing further persuasive convincing when he already sympathizes and understands according to God breathed scripture??? At a certain point we ignore scripture for Tradition.

Keith - I have been trying to express my views to many Protestants who question my faith and it is so difficult. My answer has always been the English Bible was only released in the 1500’s. How did the early Christians practice their faith then? It had to be through passing down tradition and teachings. This is so helpful about Mary and the Saints. What resonated and what is a great response, is Jesus transfigured with Elijah. Yes, yes, yes! Exactly. Also, God has been making me ponder on the early Christians a LOT. They were willing to enter into the lions den for Jesus with JOY and be martyred. How many of us today would enter the den, never mind joyfully? There’s so much that we don’t know, but I have a feeling God is going to be revealing the whole truth very soon. Thank you - this video will help me tremendously especially with my ministry!

The bible wasn't translated until 1522 because the Catholic church would have you executed for doing the translation. Might want to look up William Tyndale.

As a former protestant deceived by all the lies from protestanism told to me since childhood, I can only say, this video is amazing! Saints are ALIVE, especially protestants believe all good Christians are directly in heaven (no purgatory) and they believe they are alive, so why not go the extra step and believe they can pray for us to Jesus ✝ its that easy.

Many Protestants may believe that but the Bible does not agree. "The dead know not anything neither have they anymore a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10, Psalms 146:4; 115:17, Ezekiel 18:4, Matthew 10:28, Genesis 3:4.

@@floogelhornzzz4770 Old testament., Now Jesus Christ is the God of the living not of the dead. Read Revelation 5 verset 8 and read the book of Hebrew 12. Everything changed my friend. Jesus came and died on a cross for us so now there is life even after death.

Acts 2:29, 34 tells us: “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day… David did not ascend into the heavens.” If there’s anyone who should be in heaven, it should be David. Yet, the Bible tells us that he has not ascended into heaven. John 5:28-29 tells us that the dead are in their graves when Yahshua will return: “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are IN THE GRAVES shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” (John 5:28-29). Finally, Yahshua (Jesus Christ) tells us this in John 3:13: “No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, The Son of Man.”

8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints. The saints mentioned in this verse are believers living on earth. This verse shows that prayers reach the Father in heaven. Not that the saints are in heaven

The one and only God who created everything and everyone is the one I have always prayed to. Him and him alone. I am a convert to the catholic church and have attended for 47 years but think when I pray it should be to God. Jesus prayed to the father and taught the disciples to pray to the father and that's what I do.

Thank you, Keith. There has been so much history lost, along with the understanding. Thank you for so much clarity. The Fourth Commandment says to honor your Father and Mother. The Rosary teaches the exceptional times in Jesus' life and was easy to share. Many were illiterate and Bibles were not in print, so the Rosary became an important teaching tool through the mysteries. The French language has so many names for love so that it is clear. Our love of Mary is not worship, but love as to a mother and her beautiful example for our lives.

JesusChrist is the only mediator between us and God. Not a saint or Mary. The Rosary is all about Mary and very little about Jesus or God. She has been lifted up higher than the Father and The Son which is heretical

what a Mind blogging Satanic teaching from his servants..
