Why Do European's on TikTok HATE American Tourists?

This OBVIOUSLY does not apply to ALL European's, 99% of y'all are chill! :) but always remember it's okay to be filled with ✨ joy and whimsy ✨ in AN ENTIRELY SEPERATE COUNTRY... 😂 if these tourists aren't hurting anyone and are only just SLIGHTLY irritating you, the shade is not necessary! 💗

That isn’t true…some may but not most, and certainly, not the way many Americans do . They compare to say as if the U.S. is better. I am American and European. The U.S. is roughly 240 years old compared to countries about 1000 years old of history…not many things to compare in terms of history and certainly not much of a comparison when you consider the social safety nets and social programs in Europe. Some comparisons may exist but the issue isn’t comparisons…those happen. The issue is the way some Americans criticize the country or culture they are visiting because it isn’t like the U.S.

I feel like most of it is for the views. And those that are not, is just ignorance. I personally know people who live very sheltered and small lives. They make fun of people from other countries b/c of their own insecurities. If any of these people had seen even a little bit more of the world, a small amount of wisdom would set in, and they wouldn’t say such stupid things.

The FDA REQUIRES restaurants to list calorie amounts because then they understand exactly how many calories are in the gigantic portion they’ve just been served. BTW …you have to drive almost everywhere in America and with large restaurant portions it was NEVER taboo to get a “doggy bag,” especially for senior citizens who have a harder time driving at night. This way they get to have two nutritious meals instead of eating ice cream for dinner (my blind 92 year old mother was known to do that!) and b)not waste food!
@qwmx
@qwmx Месяц назад
Also, in Australia, main chain franchises list calories (in our case, kilojoules). I assume Europe would have the same but I'm starting to think not.
@trishgels
@trishgels Месяц назад
That's true, & many restaurants expect to be asked for doggie bags bc they know the servings are large. Nowadays, tho, bc Bidenomics is working 'so well', restaurants are cutting down on portion sizes, & are saving $ in every way possible, + it costs double & triple compared to before 2020. I kid you not, fast food for 2 ppl is around $25-$30! It's not even any good & barely qualifies as food! At least Europe has banned a lot of things that are harmful, like gmos. We can barely find anything now w/o them! Organic meat from cows eating gmo feed is ridiculous, & our fda & usda are corrupt!

I will. I won't say I am the most friendly about America but there is a difference between people and institutions. I have met plenty of Americans, especially students. They were so sweet and kind and mostly really curious about me and my country as a french person. The only American (and I am not sure if she really was, i may not have decipher her accent, but she was a foreinger) that pissed me off was a girl in the bus on a phone call being too loud while a panel in front of her said 'Be quite while you are in a phone call, mind the other passenger'. But this same problems works for anyone who are too loud in their phone calls, be them french, european, chinese, africans, spanish or americans, it is the same for everyone. So to sum up: Americans tourist are nice, it is just some people who will be problematic but it is the same problems for any foreinger or inhabitants. That is just the way it is. And I also just like to believe, only people who are curious about another country would like to visit it, so of course they are going to compare it with their home for it is the only thing they are used to. I never went abroad, but if I did, I am sure would be comparing what I see to my home, it is just the most basic thing to do. sorry for the long message, i just wanted to share my opinion.

Her reasoning was, that in america everything is spread over a larger area so that americans have to drive everywhere and often for a longer time then here in europe, so they NEED a giant tumbler that fits into a car cup holder.

yeah and why the hell would you order mexican nacho's with salsa at a Italian restaurant is my question, i am pretty sure i have never seen that on the menu anywhere in europe apart from cinema's and exclusively mexican restaurants and we travel quite a lot due to open borders, which makes sense since its a damn movie snack you can make at home, just a bag of chips and salsa, there is no demand for that to be on any restaurant's menu unless it fits with the theme since you're better off making it at home, so i fully understand why she didn't get what she wanted in the video at 10:38 because they literally dont have it in stock and had to improvise for her odd custom order by as you can clearly see, cutting up potato's into tiny slices and cooking them with a bit of salt, and even after all that work to give her something that was as close as possible to her odd order, she still dared to complain. i like Hayley but she truly fell off the wall like humpty dumpty with this video with in my opinion, pretty dumb takes.

The pill thing I sort of understand, mostly because in the UK we're heavily regulated on how many pills you can buy at one time per the law (there was an epidemic of people using pills to OD, so pills were put into blisterpacks at a restricted number to make people think about what they're doing before doing it). As someone with chronic pain I'd LOVE a bulk bottle of pain meds ngl

With pill bottles like that for pain killers, they're only ever the "light" stuff. You still have to have a prescription for anything more than ibuprofen or Advil. plus we aren't sitting here taking handfuls of pills, we have the "bulk" bottles so we don't have to buy more meds every time we need them. Personally I actually don't like blister packs because of how annoying they are, but maybe the American ones are made differently 🤷

Same. I used to be able to get 100 pills of my meds and now 20 is the maximum size. I get a prescription for 2 packs every 2 weeks. So damn annoying. I do get the culture shock, though. Just not the negativity about it. There are those if us who need that to function. 😅

Well, 3 reasons. 1) the American healthcare insurance system doesn’t give a single frick about mental health of suicide, 2) the painkillers you buy in the store are incredibly mild compared to prescription painkillers which you need a doctor to prescribe, and 3) it’s really really really hard to OD on over the counter pain meds due to the aforementioned weakness of the drugs. They’ll still mess you up if you take like 30 of them but they won’t kill you. I freeze fresh eggs from our chickens, but for longterm storage. You have to crack & scramble them before pouring in silicone trays. Then, I vacuum seal after popping them out of the trays. This is far better than water glassing uncracked eggs, bc if just 1 cracks open, it ruins the rest. After freezing them, they're great for baking, & scrambled eggs taste the same as w/o freezing. You can't really freeze whole eggs bc the yolk doesn't freeze well. I also prefer freezing bc if vacuum sealed, they last indefinitely, + we have tons of eggs bc our hens lay daily. These people damn well know that if an American started complaining about how Mexicans act in America or Americans went to Mexico and started complaining about the stuff there, they’d be labeled as racist and xenophobic (and rightfully so). Nah We don't go to church, we aren't fat, we don't have flags every where. Saying Aussie's are like British is one of the nastiest insults, we are our own people. But you got the critters right. It's very very bad here, most of Australia is in the grips of a Taipan plague, snakes every where. Also in a week it's going to be Spider season and we are warned it's going to be very bad, 10 spiders per sq yard.

Although i heard once a comparison for our nearby city, there are many older buildings and some going back to the 14 the century. She said it looks like a Disney park. Well we take that as a compliment. I would be full of wonder if visiting america

As an American. This...this feels strange. Being defended by a foreigner on the internet. I'm soo used to seeing some form of general hostile or mocking attitude from foreigners on the internet in regards to the U.S. . That having the opposite occur....pulls a weight off of me I guess? Even, going so far to admittedly nearly tearing up. Is....this what having to deal with emotional abuse is like?

Calorie labels are also just amazing even if you aren't dieting. Knowing that a mac & cheese bowl is only 200 calories tells me it's a small portion. Knowing that a sandwich is 800 calories, I know it's probably big. It gives you a good estimate of the size of the meal in advance so you know what to expect.

As an American, no I don’t drink a 2 liter soda everyday. People here buy in bulk because American families average on having 5 living creatures in a house. Including the humans and pets. We buy in bulk so we don’t have to go to the store everyday. We don’t eat a family sized chip bag in one sitting. Either it’s for a big family or to eat some and save the rest for later. My family has four to five people living there at once. So no shit there is going to be a ton of food and stuff in the house. Meds in bulk goes for the same thing with food. So you don’t have to drive down to the store everytime you don’t feel good. So you can just go to the cabinet and grab the meds you need so it’s easier. Buying in bulk is very common here.

I personally find it very funny when Americans come over and go full shocked Pikachu when they find out that we do have internet, even in rural areas, that we know what cable is, that our tap water is safe to drink, that our roads are paved, that we have fancy hotels and that big cities exist here too. Most American tourists I've met here in the south of France seemed genuinely surprised to see that we had evolved past 18th century technology.
