Good project, these Bull/Brick Nose Fords are THE hot truck build now because they are the last of the affordable classic trucks. used to be you would see one on the street and at a cars and coffee every once in a while but now there's 4 or 5 at every show and a couple at most cruise-ins and they run the gammet from running and driving daily drivers to full on custom builds. I work with a guy that's building a 83 F-150 full custom build.

If memory serves me well there is a push button on the steering column that locks keys in that position 300 inline 6 mopar guy but respect the inline six

It's dirty and I was surprised it started up that fast and runs that good, but it'll probably be a good truck for you. I hope so. There’s a button on the bottom of the steering column press it and turn the key off and the button with wires to it under the dash is probably your ignition quick easy way to get by

There's a button on the left side of the steering column that unlocks the key to get it out. At 28:58 It looks like the button is pushed in. It also looks like your ignition cylinder is rolled back too far. That would explain why when you turn the key nothing happens, the ignition rod isn't hitting the switch inside the column.

Stand on the back rack and pop the front end up to start it on the truck...

My first truck was a 1980 ford f150 automatic extended cab short bed runs off of gas or propane just got her running first start after 8 months bought it from my dude from Mexico runs great bed is f but it’s a project my old man told me he would show me how to fix her up but when I bought a newer truck he told me to scrap her but I love it so much doing paint right now just rattle cans but it’s my truck primer color and clear coat thing can’t wait to take her for a ride again

Push the button on the other side of the steering column and the key will turn on back to get it out. The button under the dash may be to actually start the engine.

She's an absolute unit!! Looks ten times better than the one I had one the road for longer than I should have ;) If I had this one it would make me consider putting some funds into her.

The actuator arm inside the steering column is broken. Dorman sells one. YT videos show how to replace it. The actuator arm connects the key tumbler to the rod that moves the ignition switch.

If you decide to keep the factory efi setup my best reccomendations are to install a new MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) and a new oxygen sensor. This truck is not mass air flow like later models it uses the older and less efficient speed density setup and those two sensors are the heart of the entire setup. Do a full tune up(plugs, cap, rotor, and wires)and check the ignition timing, clean the throttle body and butterflies, replace the fuel pumps (your year of truck has a low pressure pump in the tank a high pressure pump on the frame by the engine if im not mistaken) check for vacuum leaks and make sure the egr isn't sticking open and that old 4.9 300 inline 6 will run forever as long as you keep oil and coolant inside of it. This is also my favorite engine in the older obs ford trucks. I also think you should look into your clutch slave cylinder from how bad it was grinding to find gear sometimes. Also the solenoid you were jumping by the battery is the ignition solenoid that sends power to the starter when you turn the key and I bet the ignition switch broke in the steering column and thats what the doorbell switch under the column is for. And the dual tank setup on these trucks is finicky, they like to stick on one tank or the other because either the selector valve on the frame goes bad or the switch on the dash does so its best to use one tank until you can completely rebuild the fuel system and make sure everything works. Ford 300 i6 is probably the best damn engine you'll ever have. As durable as they get.

Eyyyy you found the small version of what i got, i have an 89 f350 xlt lariat with the big ol 460 in it, dual tanks but i got a flatbed, true enough to what people tell you in the comments, those inline 300's will never die long as they have oil and coolant. One thing youll need to watch out for is that ford starters dont like anything less than 12 volts so if starting it becomes a pain, check your ignition solenoid, the thing you were jumping to start the truck, that's typically what goes out first, then the starter. Hope to see more of this rig cause its basically what i drive and i find it awesome

The thing you jumped to start it breaks a lot on Ford. When they are bad it won't start with the key. Though I'd try that random button on the bottom of the column. On the key coming out it looks like the key accessory position. (one back from “off”) so that may be your issue.

Good full tune up, change all the fluids and some tlc that’ll be a runner for years to come provided ya take care of it. The inline 300 was one of the best engines Ford ever produced, properly taken care of they never die, that’s why Ford quit making it (literally)

You didn’t get as much snow as we did in northern mo! I was in Springfield over the weekend and they had no snow!

i knew when ya popped hood and saw the 300 that it would run. one of best engines known to mankind. the sbc, gm 3.8 v6, powerstroke 7.3 and the 300 IL6 can't be beat. the thing on inner fender is starter solenoid could be no crank issue or the safety switch on clutch pedal. the key not turning off could be the button on column needs depressed. looks like brakes and cooling system leak is what parked this thing. both easy fixes and you will have a good work truck that will last another 20 years,.

The 300 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine IF IT WAS maintained will run forever with no major tear-downs.

Love the video! Made me miss my ol' 96, that one had the 5.0 and the 5 speed. That thing you was jumping was the starter solenoid, Ford had them on the fender or firewall from at least the 60's to 2000's, I had one on my 96 and have one on my 67 Galaxie. As starting up a channel like this I now know I definitely need a tripod. The truck might be a 90, my 96 was made in 95 for the 96 model year, probably the same for that truck.

That 300-6 is way better than a 302 v8. Ive had 3 of each over the years.

brotha, i live on a farm just south of STL MO, i see your stuff come up on market place pretty often, i am a ford guy and grew up in a ford family, and i am VERY familiar with these trucks, i've probably had close to a dozen 8th generation ford trucks now, and they are all very good trucks. i like the way you do your videos, and i want to do similar stuff when i create my channel, i run my gaming channel which is here, and if this one becomes successful id like to take profits and put towards getting my junk on the road, and also find new stuff, and of course make vidyas on it. let me know if you are interested in shooting something together one day!

Previous owner cut the dam red and blue strip stripe wire that connects to the to the "S" terminal on the starter relay. What a mess, I hate half ass fixes. (I own a 1989 F150 Supercab 5.0 and have had to fix about 40 half ass fixes on my F150!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!)

Check the firewall for rot. It happens alot of these manual fords. I damn near shoved my whole pedal assembly into the engine bay
