If he's a good DD player (and he's an IJN DD player who uses his guns, so he's better than average) he was. Also, with BB dispersion, you never know what you might survive. I do stuff like that in my IJN DD's all the time - my hit points are things I trade in order to get the big guns better shots. At high tiers your torps aren't reliable - at least 25% of the players at tier 8 know how to turn. but you can herd the reds and cause them to give other people better shots at them, which results in wins, if not eye popping damage numbers.

@@ryanh8567 I was looking at chat in the last seconds, and the DD player stated "I'm not a DD player". So maybe used to using guns and not have so much concealment?

@@ryanh8567 Yup, high tier DDs aren't there to cap. They aren't there to torp. They aren't there to smoke up and shoot. They are there to scout. Those other activities are what they do between scouting opportunities.

@@ryanh8567 The irony is, he states at the end that he's not a DD driver - and he STILL does better than average. I'm a terrible DD driver so I'm lowering the average for him :D

@@switchbranch8411 Economics? The reason damage reacords are often losses is because they are symptoms of failed opportunities to kill people and of enemies with lots of HP left for the majority of games.

@@Snagabott The same reason the germans had more fighter aces than the allies in WWII. Every day the germans went up, they found themselves in a target rich environment. On the other hand the allies could go days without even seeing a german plane.

Exactly what i came here to post. But like Snagabott says, damage records are often losses because they are easier to set when the record-setter is the only one on the team capable of doing sustained high damage, and is trying to survive in a target-rich environment.

yeah, he had too many torp salvos down the same track, but otherwise he played the boat quite well providing spotting and using his guns to secure kills, all while capping. Id play with him any day of the week.

I call hacks. They were definitely using the ol' WASD hack.

Not to mention, while the enemy ships were having to turn to avoid the torpedoes, they gave Lex nice broadsides.

COD, same here. These young hooligans are too quick. Jingles is THE expert on WoW tactics and a velvet fist commentary. I grinded WoW on mobile then on PS4. Dropped some cash on it. Some how I was signed out from my PS4 and when I went to sign in it asked for my passcode using an old cell phone number for verification. I cannot access my old game progress! Opened a new profile but have given up on over a years worth of play grind and ships. I'm going to bite the bullet and start from the beginning but at least I have a great grasp of the gameplay thanks to Mr. Jingles.

It wasn't that bad. Sure, the DD at the end could have done better, but every evening when I play the game, I have like 20 battles in which the DDs on my team just die in the first minutes, without doing anything useful and I then get to spend the rest of the battle, running away from invisible people trying to burn me down and dodging torpedoes. A battle where you have at least one DD on your team that survives till the end, keeps spotting stuff and even kills another DD, is a good battle, even if it is a close defeat. The issue is how disproportionally important DDs are in this game. Everything stands or falls with them. When you have good DDs on your team that survive a while and do their job, everything else is a cake walk and just a mop-up operation. When the DDs on your team suck and die at the beginning, or hide behind islands the whole battle, then there is nothing you in a BB can do to carry the team, unless maybe you are in a secondary build German BB with Hydro and you can hunt down the DDs yourself. This is just bad game design and it will get even worse when submarines are introduced. That means another important thing that only DDs can do and everyone else is dependent on them doing it well. With other words, Wargaming is further doubling down on a fundamental flaw in their game design.

Just to remind you - Kagero was 3rd in the team. Helped both directly (Weser kill, finishing/killing 3 ships in total) and indirectly (BB´s actively hiding, avoiding torps giving broadside) for this record. His last stand was probably "screw it, I will be spotted for sure, may survive one salvo from NM and by the time he reloads/kills me with secondaries, I will finish it with HE and fires (which is not hard in T8 DD against T6 BB on 6k hp). Unluckily for him, NM was ready and managed to wipe him out without receiving enough combined damage to actually die itself (worst scenario). But every other outcome would help massively and would turn the game probably (even the trade).

@@siriusczech Yes, more players like this Kagero and I'd still have the game installed. He also spotted, took caps and managed to stay alive until the very end (in a cv match to boot). Way above the usual DD player.

Totally agree, but then again you shouldn't go for those citadel shots at long range. One more advantage of the Scharnhorst AP is that, due to the low caliber, you can get juicy superstructure pens were other BBs would get over pens only.

Nah it's pretty garbage, especially if the target has saturated.

I mean, it's fine in the sense that you can get pens on broadsides. But it underperforms compared to similar tier guns. It's a lot harder to citadel enemies and they generally do far less damage. The short reload is supposed to make up for this, but there isn't as much of a potential to blap enemies out of existence like there is with other BB's
