The original router kit was a huge success, but many customers reported that the router would wear out quickly. It was also very loud and speed control was a guess at best.
I totally re-designed the kit to use a 2.2kW water cooled spindle. Just a few of the benefits are:
-It has full speed control through Gcode
-You can use a large selection of end mills (the router is limited to 1/4" shank bits)
-It is very quiet, the only noise is the end mill cutting and the dust extractor
While in the process of re-designing, I made some other changes:
- Added gearing on the X & Y axis to increase torque and resolution
- Incorporated a floating dust foot with a magnetic dust shoe
- Stiffened the Z axis V bearing setup
In this video, I'm engraving using a 1mm end mill. The spindle speed is 18,000rpm and the feed-rate is quite slow at about 1000mm/min.
