ADAM Audio monitors have earned a worldwide reputation as the preeminent tool for sound engineers based on technological innovations that we’ve established in the field of loudspeaker technology.
The S3H builds on the successes of ADAM Audio’s most popular studio monitors, the S3A and S3X-H, and, like its predecessors, sets new standards in terms of technical innovation and design.
The dual 7-inch bass drivers, powered by a 500 W Class D amplifier, offer flawless reproduction of frequencies all the way down to 30 Hz. ADAM Audio’s newly developed DCH, a 4-inch hybrid dome/cone mid-range driver, is powered by a 300 W Class D amplifier and handles audio above 250 Hz and below 3 kHz, its leading-edge hybrid design offering the sonic advantages of both cone and soft-dome drivers in a single, one-piece unit. Frequencies above 3 kHz are routed to the innovative combination of the S-ART treble driver (each handmade at ADAM Audio’s Berlin factory), the new precision HPS waveguide, and a 50 W Class A/B amplifier. The result of all this innovation is a beautifully transparent three-dimensional soundscape, with an extensive sweet spot.
The S Series’ custom-designed DSP optimizes the loudspeaker crossovers to create linear responses for the entire range, as well as providing user equalization and in-room tuning/voicing functions. A unique feature of the S3H’s DSP options is a built-in factory EQ preset that emulates the response of ADAM Audio’s legendary S3A monitor. The DSP also handles the limiter-based high-frequency driver protection, processes the signals from the AES3 digital inputs, and will in time facilitate various expansion options. Software updates can be carried out with ease via the associated USB port, which also allows users to connect computers and control the speakers’ DSP functions via a software front-end.
With its massively powerful amplification and three-way design (optimally configured for use horizontally), the S3H was conceived as a midfield monitor, but can be employed equally well in more compact listening environments. As with all ADAM Audio designs, the sound is punchy but musical, with crystal-clear reproduction of the all-important mid-range.
The S3H’s wide-ranging frequency response, its power amps’ instantly available, plentiful headroom, and the lack of need for additional subwoofers should appeal to any audio professional looking for a stand-alone, full-frequency active solution for their recording studio, one which provides equally detailed audio information at any volume setting, loud or quiet. Whatever your preferred output level, the S3H’s vibrant authenticity is a spur to creativity for producers, engineers and musicians everywhere, and its sound remains remarkably unfatiguing, even when working uninterrupted for extended periods.

I like my Dynaudio BM5 MKIII because they sounded best in my old room. I did a side-by-side comparison with a couple of different speakers. They were the most even sounding ones with a great depth and stereo projection. They sound great in my new room as well. But who knows, maybe one of the other former competitors might have been the better choice for the new home studio place.

So just to preface what I’m about to say, I’m Adam Audio artist so you can take what I’m saying with a pinch of salt but I’m not being paid to say any of this also, just chucking in my opinion! I have these speakers in my new studio (large-ish control room about 5mx6m). At first I wasn’t totally sure of them to be honest, - but as a little time has gone on (been using them for the last 3months) my lordddd have they impressed me. The mid range definition is a perfect balance for me, they are not spongey nor overtly aggressive, you have to work to make a mix sound right in that range, but they highlight so well where your mix is lacking - then boom when it’s in the pocket it sounds great (I’m not a fan of ruthless monitors, not do I want everything to sound amazing right off the bat). The bass definition is tight I agree with Warren, but what I’ve found is that mixing lower frequencies, once you’ve got to know the S3Hs, they translate amazingly when you listen on a huge amount of playback systems post mix- they are unbelievable and if you want something that gives you a solid all round beast they are an absolutely winning choice. I can’t imagine not having them in my set up.

Would these monitors require a burn in time ??? I'm wondering how they would change after a week ...
@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin 2 года назад
@@shawnwait6207 Hi Shawn, it's usually recommended to give any speakers proper signal before using them, however our S Series is burnt in from the very beginning in Berlin, so they don't necessarily require a long burn in process. The biggest key is your ears themselves getting used to a completely new sound.. All studio monitors sound very different so swapping from one to another can be a huge shift and without spending more time with them, it may come off as unpleasant or unusual. We always suggest giving a set of speakers no matter the brand a couple weeks to get used to and do some mixes on to see how they translate elsewhere.. which is ultimately the most important part. Hope this helps!

I'm a proud owner of the S3H's for over 3 years now, and they still continue to amaze me for both mixing and pleasure listening. I do run the EQ HiShelf at -0.7dB @3.2k to tame the tweeter a bit, but that's just my preference. I A/B'd the S3H extensively against the Focal Trio's as the Trio's are prettier, and 1K cheaper. In the demo room, I reduced the ADAM tweeters by -0.5dB to match HF balance with the Focals, and I liked the S3H's better in all respects. I did like the Focals, but the ADAMs were clearer with less midrange coloration & they played louder. Warren got it Right On that one thing missing is that warm mid bass bump like on some large speakers. I am adding about +0.3dB at 350Hz with very wide Q to give them that bump. I just wish ADAM would integrate a room correction app with their EQ control app (which is pretty clunky). Otherwise, LOVE these monitors!

Thanks for this demo, Warren! Proud owner & fan of the S3X-H (predecessor model) & Adam Audio - in general - here. I've had the S3-H for a few weeks, when one of my tweeter amps died (after 6 years) on my S3X-H and I had to send them in. The Adam Audio guys in Berlin made an exceptional effort and provided an incomparable service. So they also send me a replacement: the S3-H. For the first few songs, the S3-H sounded exactly like my S3X-H. That btw means absolutely transparent and very detailed on dynamics & image. After a few days it became pretty clear. Both models have a certain color in sound, just exactly how they look. While the S3-H is more modern sounding and more precise in the low mids, the S3X-H has more of a classic feel to it. If you work with a lot of sub heavy material, such as club music, the S3-H are amazing. Bear in mind, with this style of music you definitely want to use a 10 or 12" Sub, since the S3 "only" have 7" woofers (which make the low mids so precise). For everything Rock, Country, Classic and Band/Live-Music in general, I personally think, the S3X-H are an even better fit. Since I work with more modern and clubby music, I'm currently selling my S3X-H to be able to afford the S3-H. I think they're both absolutely amazing and I'm not even sad, if I have to keep mine. :)

I've used a pair of A7Xs for the last seven years or so, and was always happy with the results. However, I've recently added the Sub 8 into the equation and I'm amazed at how much it cleans up the low/low mids in the A7Xs. Not having to cope with all that info below 60/70Hz really helps them sound even better. These beauties are just too big for my room😢

Haha Firstly, what am I enthusiastic about that 'would never even use'? Secondly, I actually really like these speakers! @@Producelikeapro I seem to recall some very enthusiastic reviews on Focal Shapes, as far as monitoring is concerned, felt like a couple others maybe as well, plus some mics, outboard, etc. Everyone is entitled to their own preferences so not trying to rag anything. Why would you give up tried and true genelec's you know and love for every new pair of monitors that comes through the door? That doesn't make sense. The focal shapes are a great monitor, particularly for the price, maybe not the right ones for you which is all good! I just noticed a contrast between the enthusiasm levels for something like the shape twins vs. these speakers. Love and peace!

Few years back (before Covid-times), all in one room/one day, I was lucky enough to hear: these (S3H's), the S3V's, S2V's, S5H, A77X. It was pretty nuts, but a lot of fun! My takeaway regarding the S3H's is the same as yours: Great Mid-range, insane top-end, but the lows are not quite as extended as you might expect. The set that blew me away in all 3 areas (balance, Imaging, appearance) were the S3V's Vocal, Guitar, Snare and Kick were astoundingly clear and precise. In terms of being a bit more budget-minded I found the A77x's to be very nice, as well. Pound for pound, S3V's best out of Adam's S - series. Forget about the S5H's, they're as big as movie theatre speakers and impractical for home studios. Years later, I went with Focal. Why ? "Cuz I'm Moe Green." - GF I kidding, I'm not Moe Green, he wasn't a cool guy.

Great, Warren, I am glad you tried them and truely have to work a while. I have the S3V, which is the vertical 3-way model with one 9" woofer since one year now. I love them because of the tight accuracy with extremely transients and the power to gain up like with mains without loosing the frequency response. They are precise in any level. You know, I am a drummer and for that you need much power and accurate transients with no phase issues to feel fine. They are ... lets say not so warm or smooth sounding like a Focal, but the panning, details of reverbs and delays .... sooo to work with them, I like more. These Adam´s glance with precision and power as a working horse you can trust! The S-ART tweeter is not comparable with other tweeters and let cymbals or percussion sound like they really are. A smooth bite out of bronze. It´s not HiFi. Thats my opinion about them. Greetings to you my friend. :-)

I own these exact monitors. I’ve been using them for just over a year now. I first heard them at a special launch event roughly 4 years ago. The centre image is what sold these to me, never have I experienced such a solid image in a monitor pair before. The highs are typical ADAM, which I enjoy very much. I’ve trusted ADAM monitoring exclusively in my studios over the last 15 years and I must say the S Series are fantastic, with the S3H being the best of the bunch. I was lucky enough to have tested most of the S Series range in my studio (thanks to friends in high places) which helped me decide that the S3H will happily be my next ten year monitor. The three way design really helps to spread the load which i find really helps me balance tracks quicker than before. I also have the ADAM sub 10 wired in to just tickle the floor a touch. While the speakers sound great I do run speaker calibration which unlocks the full potential of these monitors as my room, like all rooms, has a few modes. Play around with the builtin DSP, it’s great for fine tuning! Start off with Pure. Also, with these being horizontal, I find the sweet spot is far greater than what you get with vertical monitors AND the tweeter is perfectly aligned with mid and main woofers to my ear height when I’m sat at my desk. All this makes for an immersive, solid yet full range experience I need for all types of production work.

I just upgraded from Adam A7X to S2Vs. Listening to program music, although a pleasure, does not reveal their strong points. When mixing I find that they reveal small changes in all elements of mixing. The speakers, through either the rear panel or software offers 6 bands of parametric eq as well as high and low shelves which can be saved as presets. I find their UNR setting a bit more entertaining but still accurate for mixing. The most striking aspect might be the imaging and depth of field. I have never heard speakers that are as good at placing an element in a very specific point in the environment. Listening to modern mixes (i.e. The new Lorde) is a joy. They look cool and sound marvelous!

The concept of "mid" field is a tricky one Seems to me speakers are either placed so that the listening position is in the near field, to minimize the effect of the room, or they're out in the room somewhere - whether you call that mid-field, far-field (?), or whatever, on up to soffit-mounted monsters. Since you want about 83-85 dB spl at the listening position (Fletcher Munson) and considering the inverse square power law, the more out in the room a speaker is, the more critical acoustic treatment becomes. Not to nit-pick, though, those are beautiful speakers; good job Adam Audio.

I have the S3V (vertical Version). They are incredibly good - after you got to know them. At first not that easy to mix with because they are so precise and a little "idiosyncratic" in the lows, but I don't know any speakers that depict more precise as well frequencies as the stereofield of a mix. Hi Warren! I have a question not cutting into the subject, but you might give me some advice or tip. So, I have a solo(flamenco) guitar track, which has slihtly fluctuated tempo. I didn't want to record this with click, because that kills the organic breath of the piece, so this tempo changes are justified musically. And I want to add some percussion with VSTI, which works with midi, or acidized wav samples and it needs correct timing for the sync. I was watching a lot of videos about tempo mapping, but that's all about aligning fluctuated tempo of the audio to the given bpm. My goal is reversed. Mean I want to adjust bpm to audio tempo changes by automation. Maybe it's possible with Melodyne or with Melodyne and DAW together? I use Samplitude ProX and of course I've already asked this on forum, get some tips, but I'm curious about your ideas. Can I do this and how? I would be grateful for any advice or tip, or maybe you have some tutor about this question. Thanks in advance! Cheers

Having heard the Barefoots and the PMCs (and owning the Barefoots), I’d say they’re both great, and also very different. You really need to audition them for yourself, because depending on what and how you like to hear music when mixing, whether you’re intending to use a sub, etc, your opinion could be VERY different from mine.
@MiDnYTe25
@MiDnYTe25 2 года назад
I haven't heard the Eves, but I would suggest a different speaker if you intend to do any EDM: the Genelec 8050Bs. They are incredible for the money and go really low while remaining tight. Actually, way better bass response than the footprints, as those are limited by the severely undersized volume of the box. After hearing some Adams, Neumanns and BFs, they were the one that blew me away. They are also priced really well! Took a good few weeks to get used to the honest sound of them after almost two years of T7V's - not the same league by far; the Adams make everything sound nice and round which is a no-no for mixing. Now most of the playback systems I used to like before sound like trash in comparison, so that's a disadvantage I guess 😂 There's also an Audio Science Review article on it, as well as the FP01 if you'd like some raw data with the anecdotes.
@melissabell585

@@MiDnYTe25 The ASR community is chock full of audiophiles debating the merits of using various studio monitors outside of their design targets (in their living rooms) based on data that’s interesting but also fundamentally subject to a lot of interesting issues, whether they believe it or not. They love the KH310s, which to me make guitars sound boring and wrong. 🤷‍♀️ At the end of the day, the best thing to do is to audition the monitors you’re considering for yourself, and find the ones that work for you. I heard those Genelecs and chose the Footprints - obviously you made the opposite choice, and that’s great for both of us! Horses for courses, as Warren says.

Hi Warren, let me just tell that you have inspired me to learn about audio so much! and i respect you a lot. So i had a question which has been bothered me since long... I have heard that analogue moddeled eqs add harmonics, have unique curve and Q behaviour, So i tried using analogue moddeled eqs from acustica, ssl native, softube, tdr and many more on a sine wave. I didn't find any sort of harmonics being added but that was not the case for analogue moddeled compressers which did actually add harmonic distortion.... I'm really confused, does this mean that analogue moddeled eqs don't inherently add distortion like real analogue equipment unless they have some kind of drive/ thd knov?
@Producelikeapro
@Producelikeapro 2 года назад
Analogue modelled EQ probably adds some harmonics IF pushed very hard. However, you’d have to hit it hard to achieve that. Compressors allow for much hotter signals to pass through them because of the amount gain reduction, so that means audible additional saturation would be evident. I wouldn’t use a EQ emulation expecting it to add harmonics, I would always use something more aggressive to achieve that
@dwaaaiii8757
@dwaaaiii8757 2 года назад
@@Producelikeapro Oh i get it now, i had read somewhere that analogue eqs add harmonics in a non linear way depending upon the amount of gain on the frequency band (probably because the eq itself added the boost and henceforth made the already there harmonics louder?)...ig digital doesn't emulate it that way exactly. Thank you so much for taking the time and explaining! Means a lot :')

I mix on a pair of these, with a Sub (can be switched in and out), and calibrated with a Trinnov. With the Trinnov time-aligning the sub to the S3H.. I've never experienced anything that sounds as good. Even when compared to the monitoring setups in big nearby studios that have much more expensive control rooms (SSLs or Neve consoles with Barefoots, Genelecs, etc).. I vastly prefer the experience of working on the Adams/ in my own mix room. If I had to guess, it would probably take something like Kii3 + the BXT modules ..or something on that level.. for me to consider anything an improvement.

@ADAMAudioBerlin
@ADAMAudioBerlin 2 года назад
Hi Steve, so happy you're enjoying your ADAM Audio monitors. Sounds like an awesome setup!
@stringsdiezel
@stringsdiezel 2 года назад
@@iammusicp I am using the ST2 Pro. All of the Trinnov units provide the same quality of calibration, but allow for a different number of connections (The ST2 Pro can do up to a 2.2 or Quad setup, whereas the D-MON units can do 5.12 or 7.1.4 ATMOS). I just use the Trinnov for monitor controlling. Presently I just use a mouse with the unit, but a touch screen can be used and they also sell a small jog-wheel with touch and buttons for monitor control (controls the unit's software). It's also possible to connect one set of speakers to the AES outputs and one to the Analog outputs on the unit so that switching can be done within the unit. Trinnovs are fairly expensive for what they are (hardware-wise), but compared to solutions like Sonarworks (or other single-mic-capsule based calibration) it's night and day. I'd take Sonarworks (with some added engineer EQ on top of it) over no calibration, but it sounds plastic and 2 dimensional compared to the Trinnov (which sounds instantly "right", and somehow makes the soundstage larger at the same time). Lastly, I would add that pretty much nothing can phase align and integrate a sub (or subs) as perfectly and effortlessly. The entire calibration process takes around 1 minute.
@stringsdiezel
@stringsdiezel 2 года назад
@@fededj2002 I've had the unit connected to my Adams via both Analog and AES. The AES is smidge cleaner and flatter in the highs. The Analog outputs seem to result in a gently roll-off of the highest frequencies. The caveat there is that I kind of prefer that gently high-end roll-off. I know my ears/tastes, so mixing with the bit of roll-off gets me to the right frequency balance quicker as the extra highs present in the AES out cause me to shy away from certain top-end boosts (initially). My long-term plan is to figure out exactly which user-EQ setting in the Trinnov can match the AES highs to the Analog ones (so that they both produce identical responses) and then use AES for the Adams and the Analog outputs for my set of NS-10s. Regarding the speakers: I'm not sure what you are mixing with presently, but I would highly recommend the S3H. On their own, the clarity / soundstage / dynamics / 3D sound are fantastic. Paired with a Trinnov it's on another level. Extended with Sub(s) and calibrated with the Trinnov it's unreal.
