Welcome to Christa's Garden! My goal for this channel is to inspire others to grow a garden of their own. I mostly grow heirloom and open pollinated vegetables but love to grow flowers as well. I am especially passionate about growing watermelons and tomatoes! I use both conventional and organic gardening methods. Join me in the garden by subscribing to my channel and grow along with me!
When I made this video, usually Miracle Gro all-purpose fertilizer. Now I alternate between Miracle Gro and True Organics tomato and vegetable liquid fertilizer.
I really enjoy your videos. I like how you’re straight to the point and you’re very informative. By the way I ordered the fertilizer and blood meal watermelon plants you suggested. I’m so glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work. 👏🏽👏🏽🥰
Thank you so much I broke 4 or five of my tomato tops while moving them in and out doors to harden off. I have a few of them that seem to be restarting however they seem very stunted. It might not be too late for them to catch up but time will tell? I should have tried to shave the tops too so thanks to your video next time I mess up my starts I will at least have some hope for a save or two~~! Kit
Lovely video. Thanks for showing how you keep your plants well watered even when it is hot out. I will definitely look into the terra-cotta watering spikes, very interesting idea.
I love your channel I'm growing burner boys, champion plus, celebrity girl. Heirloom tomatoes Black Kem. They all in bed. I love the idea of putting them in pots. What type of trellis are you using in the background? Live the water idea for water moisture of I heard cattle metal arch where can I find that?
Cattle panel is actually used for livestock, but it can also be used in the garden! You can buy it at Tractor Supply Company or a place like that. We were able to fit the panels in a truck bed, but we had to bend them in arch shapes and tie them down We drove home on backroads. I usually grow a couple of tomatoes in containers every year but this year I needed to get them all up and off the ground. I have a black walnut tree near my garden, black walnut trees produce a substance from their roots called juglone, it kills off many kinds of plants, including tomatoes. It has started to take a toll on my plants. I hope to have it cut down by the start of the next growing season. I actually prefer to grow tomatoes in the ground. I have clay soil and mulch my entire garden. I rarely have to water my in-ground tomato plants, and only fertilize occasionally. I have grown a couple of your varieties. Have a great growing season!
Those terracotta watering spikes are very interesting 👍 I put the bottles directly into the containers but the spikes are a good solution. You have a great variety of tomatoes 🍅 I do not even know the name of my favorite tomato plant because I got it on a plant swap. The guy had just written 'Tom' for tomato 🍅 on the pot 😀 Have a great growing season 🌱🍅🌱🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🌝
I also grow a nameless tomato variety every few years. The seeds were supposed to be Vintage Wine but it's something else. We will see how the spikes go. I think they will be helpful in the hottest part of summer. Thank you for watching and commenting!
They probably won't die but you will have stronger plants and better melons if you plant new ones. If your plants are young, you won't be losing much time, and it will be worth it.
Thank you for this solution, you solved a problem I’ve had for 5 years, the strawberries rot before I can pick them. These baskets must sell out fast I had to go to a few Dollar Generals to find them. But I was surprised they still carry them considering your vid is 4 years old! Thanks again!!!!
Thank you for the useful advice. I’ll be planting some seeds today and maybe transferring into my greenhouse eventually. I wish I started growing my own fruit sooner. 🍎 🍐 🍉 🥑 🍓 🫐 . It’s so rewarding. ❤️
@@ChristasGarden I kept them on some potting soil and sprayed them with a spray bottle daily. I also have them in a plastic container I got from Dollar Tree that said it will help germinate seeds. Then I leave them in the sun with all my other plants.
Hello, Can I still planting strawberry seed around this time of the year? You mentioned about the grow light, how long do you have the grow light to be on until germinated. I’m from New York
You can start them from seeds now, they don't take long to germinate. I can't remember how long they took but I think it was less than a couple of weeks. They may not produce fruit this year, but they will next year, it will depend on the variety and when you get them planted out.
I’m so jealous. My lettuce and choi starts bolting in feb-early March. I tried every variety heirloom and hybrid, heading and leaf in different parts of the garden. I tried even growing in the shade or covering with row cover. They would grow but I can only harvest young outer leaves once or twice then they get bitter, milky and bolt. I have tried in spring, fall, summer and winter. Thank God for farmers markets but I still want to plant and harvest successfully. - N. Cali zone10a
That stinks! I am jealous of some of thing things you can grow, like oranges and Avocados. You could always try growing some indoors where the temperature can be controlled. Good luck!
You can save the seeds from the pods and sow them, eventually they will grow into a bulb that produces flowers. You might want to do some googling and find out the process. I would assume it takes a few years from seed to bloom. If you have more than one daffodil variety planted, you may get a new variety due to cross pollination. It might be fun to try!
Thanks for this....I always start December 29 every year from seed, and for peppers i pench the tops out sure enough they get fuller....Zone9a Gulf Coast.
