Here is a tilefish riddle and true story. Long time ago I worked on commercial longliners for tilefish out of Montauk New York. Occasionally we would catch 2 tilefish with only one baited hook. How could that happen?
Loved the Video and the cooking class for crabs. I also make Crab Gravy and I think the only difference is that I add a handful of really fresh Parsley and a 3-4 good sized sprigs of Fresh Basil. I think it enhances the Crab Flavor a lot. I also use this Gravy Recipe for Calamari when it's just cut up or when I stuff the bodies. Another great Seafood Dish!
I have the same fishing disease. When I was five years old, my family went to visit some friends staying on the Delaware River just into New York State at a campground. I wanted to fish so much, but we did not bring any gear. The wife of the family we were visiting gave me about 20 feet of string and I tied a pull tab from a can of soda on it and bent the pull tab in the shape of a hook and threw it in trying to jig it. It sounds absurd now, but in my 5 year old mind, I was fishing and content to do so.
Couple of things: Really got a kick outta the “.just a backwoods” or black n mild or whatever it was I can’t remember now Also, I appreciated that you pointed out the lack of yelling while instructing the guys fishing. A laid back vibe really makes a long day on the water more enjoyable
@@reaperfishingnj8623 yeah I gotcha. The delivery was just great. Forgive me if this has been covered already in other videos , but do you do charters?
@@reaperfishingnj8623 I know it might not mean much from a random internet dude but you’ve become my favorite channel. Grew up on the mid Atlantic coast but never did much fishing (I know, chastise me now). Moved to the southern Appalachians and got addicted to freshwater fishing there. That prompted me to do some charters (SC, NC, FL, and most recently Costa Rica). Decided to move back to the mid Atlantic. Fishing a lot of the brackish waters here in MD. Your channel is the best. The laid back relaxed attitude combined with the go “hard AF” is super cool. Doing my first tuna trip next month. Your videos get me fired up. It’s great to see a guy with a RU-vid channel that isn’t the cookie cutter RU-vidr lol. Also, your Point Break sample on your recent seabass video was epic. I could drone on all night but I won’t. Appreciate ya man. Keep killing it
Jimmy Ling is hard to beat. Trick to Ling is to make a slurry in the cooler with a box of kosher salt, ice and a bucket of sea water. Promise you it won't be mushy when you clean it you'll need a glove to hold it.
I’m new to the channel. I found you because I was searching for Contender T 25 boats I’m interested in buying. Though I don’t watch many anglers from other areas (I’m in W. Central Fla.) I really like your show. I noticed in your final still shots your wife and someone else were holding Snook. Where did you catch them..?? I thought they don’t go as north as NJ. Anyway great show. You’ve made me more interested in the Contender. Cape Horn was in the running Anna the man that circled you I believe was in one. I’ve subscribed. Keep on being a down to earth guy. That’s why I’ve enjoyed your videos. 👍🏼
Thanks so much for watching and subscribing. We caught that snook near Cape Coral. I posted another snook vid from Sebastian Inlet just a few weeks ago. I went to college at Florida Tech in Melbourne, Fl so it's like my second home
@@reaperfishingnj8623would you say your Contender is worth the price. I bought a new pathfinder 2400 open for the best of both worlds here in the Gulf of Mexico but I get battered going 40 miles offshore on a GLASS like day. I’m selling and looking for a contender 25t. I’m hoping it will be a considerable smoother ride in relatively calm waters. My Montauk 170 rode much better than Pathfinder.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 years back I met a guy who used small live black fish to catch big stripers in the Atlantic City area..he said it was illegal, and he was a wanted man..I always wondered if bergalls could be used the same way..
I almost guarantee that first wreck was loaded with sand eels. We were in the same depth earlier that week and they didn’t want the clam. Just jigs. And even then, the big ones were picky and didn’t want to eat… also Ling is the winner for me. Great with butter lemon sauce
Love your channel, makes me miss fishing more and more. My second or third trip ever was for ling and Whiting way back in '79. Thanks for sparking some old memories.
everything in that vid was 80's or 90's mate. I can't even fathom listening to that garbage they call music nowadays!! Only a few things I've ever liked in the 2000s
agreed man. Typically we only keep fish that are easily 15-16" and up. But I guess our fishery is falling off or the surveying really is making a difference
I have TMobile. I only get cell service out to about 6-8 miles. I always have my life raft with me on the Contender. As a general rule you should always have the life raft, inreach, sat phone, epirb any time you're past a few miles offshore
Fished north Jersey. First 10 days of seabass was amazing. Afterwards, some days shorts were even hard to come by. Ling fishing on the other hand has been extraordinary through this all.
Couple of nice biscuits. I'm only a few minutes past that nice eels release. Can't get past that. If ya have a smoker, try throwing one of those bad boys on it. Leroys fish market in Atlantic Highlands had em a lot when i was a kid. My dad got me hooked on em when i was knee high to a grasshopper. Not easy to find em nowadays. I get them when i can. Alright, gonna watch the rest. Edit. Ok now it's too much. Yer killin me. Nice jumbos but that 2nd eel. Haha, I'll drive down n pick him up. I'll buy ya some sword fish bait. 😂 Smoked eel is the cats meow man. Ya gotta try it. By the way the bow of that sweet CC loks so much more fishable. Fish able. Looks killer. ❤
Hahaha, "can you get me a plate," "remove the seal." My wife would have done the exact same thing. Good trip bro. Doesn't seem like the seismic blasting caused any problems on this trip. I'm torn on the subject because if they let us fish the windmills, it would be a good benefit as they will attract so much life. I think similar to oil rig fishing. Just the surveying for the install is really annoying to everything. Not to mention the loss of the horizon view...bunch of windmills. As for fishing them, I'm optimistic. Bet I'm going to get flamed for my opinion. Anyway, hope to see you out there someday...I'm out of Cape May. Thanks for all your videos...I enjoy them all.
It’s also ‘if’ they let us fish near them. I already saw some stuff about terror concerns and possible exclusion zones. I’m completely against them because wind energy just isn’t the answer. The seismic testing is definitely harmful and who knows what consequences construction will have, and the vibrations and oil leaks and what not after. I would welcome an oil rig like you said, because at least it’s not just a money pit to line our politicians pockets. More structure off our coast would definitely be awesome, I just don’t think this is the right kind.
@@jd12elephantbingo! I don’t want to roast this guy and his original comment, but there just needs to be more education and awareness about what is going on. Most have only heard what legacy media outlets and government has told them and have not dug deeper to see the other side of the coin, the things they don’t want you to know. His comment makes me believe he thinks the turbines will have supports like oil rigs (jacket foundations) or like the much smaller sized turbines in block island (which have wildly underperformed, example: 4 of the 5 don’t spin at all for a 9 month STRAIGHT period within the year or so because they were down for repair. Heck, they were built in 2016! (supposed to last 30 years!?). The turbines off jersey wont have jacket foundations, but be monopoles with very little low lying scour protection around the base that likely will get silted over in no time. as of right now they say no restriction on fishing them, just cant tie off. But, we all know that is subject to change like we saw in other countries. the construction process is brutal and will be done for decades of our coast if this is allowed (have you seen the number of lease sites and size?!) lets also not forget about the fact that they will not generate the energy they say they will. they cannot meet our energy demand. they are SO costly and the energy bills will be wild. have you looked at the rates?? its all subsidized and NJ residents wont even get the energy credits, murphy signed that away to give to the wind companies when they said they needed more money for the project because inflation is killing them. well, guess what, the inflation is killing middle america too and those tax credits were supposed to be used to help subsidize the energy price burden rate payers and tax payers are taking the full brunt of now! if they really cared about carbon emissions they would be investing in nuclear, a highly efficient, on demand, cost effective energy source that just so happens to NOT produce carbon emissions. but, that unfortunately doesnt fit the narrative and not on the agenda to make a lot of people a lottt of money who are not you nor i brother. if chris or any of you guys want to learn more i highly suggest you check out protectourcoastNJ.com or find me on facebook and shoot me a message. id be happy to share more.
I was out see bass fishing last weekend and it was a ton of shorts between me and my son we had four keepers and caught a massive silver eel about The same size as the second eel you cought
I can not and will not have this conversation with anyone ever again 😂. The no windmill people are worse than Biden supporters. The real truth won't be known honestly till they are there for a bit. Anything else is pure speculation. It may affect them, it may not. It may end up attracting a much wider and diverse amount of species. I'm more for them with how I primarily fish but IDC. I look at them as we will basically have oil rigs
Hahaha Dude so Awesome! You got me Hyped up! I do lots of solo trips myself but never have for tuna yet. You just motivated me! Takes a lot of skill to do that solo awesome job!
Good day of fluking there Capt. I was never an avide fluke guy but targeted them here n there. Mostly with live peanuts but the best fluke day i ever had was inside, off my dock just south of the Highlands bridge.( North Jersey😂) i had a fresh water rod, snapper snatcher with me. 6 to 10" snapper moved in. I got a few and pounded 3 fluke just like your 7 pounder here. Also got a couple of shorts no bigger than twice the size of the snapper they hit on. Snappers are like crack for fluke. Try em sometime if ya get a chance.
We had such a great time down there! Ma rented this old colonial house. It was in the middle of a noreaster. We drank beer, bet on college and nfl football, ate at some amazing restraunts, and had a blast
