It sounds like it was a programming thing? The gyro, while available in earlier models, have only found usability in the pocket line (and I’m including the cc6kff in there). I’m assuming the Pyxis needs that refinement to deliver a “ready” camera
@@jambredthis is not a true state at all. As someone who has owned and used a number of their, most of their recent cameras were shipped around the time they stated. Yes they had a long history going back to their first cinema camera of delays going up to the pocket 4K cameras. However that was not the case for cameras starting with the pocket 6K all the way up to the cinema camera 6K full frame. All of those cameras were shipped either at the time they said they would or they were only a few weeks delayed (the full frame being the most delayed one).
Could be the reason. Out of all the speculation online, this could very much be a factor. B&H Photo is loving it though because I keep adding stuff to that order 😂
I put a Pyxis preorder in after the NAB announcement, but I’ve since moved over to Sony. ISO400 is not a practical base for the work I do and ISO3200 is garbage. The BM full frame sensor is years behind the competition and having open gate is no consolation when you can’t get a decent image. We live in a time where crews are tiny or non-existent and the budgets for lighting are low to non-existent. In other words I have to deal with ambient light way more often than I would like and the full frame Blackmagic cameras aren’t up to the task. I’d rather lose some resolution and framing and know that I have an FX3 and/or FX6 that can give me relatively clean files.
@@waveland too each his own. Don’t agree with the statement that you can’t can get a decent image out of the Full Frame of the BM. I own both the FX3 and the BMCC6K and actually think the BM has a much better image than the fx3. Nevertheless you go with what works for you.

@@aifilmschool yes that has been their history. However this was not the case for some time. Since the BMPCC6K, BM has been pretty consistent with getting their cameras out either same day or only a few weeks delay.
@@cineffect hey anything is possible but another video came out a few days ago showing the screen is still fixed to the side. I don’t honestly see Blackmagic making that change on this camera.
Mainly interested in the Ursa Cine 12k. Honestly, waiting an extra 2 months isn't the end of the world, and everyone who's losing their marbles over the time were frantic buyers anyways. If you have a problem with the camera, it's not for you simply put. Go and buy a FX3 if you don't want to shoot exclusively on BRAW and think it's a "rehoused 6kFF". There are a plethora of other options out there.
@@MtZionMediaPro I get people’s anxts for the camera. But I am mostly with you, we just need to practice patience and wait and see what the camera provides and make the decision if it’s right for us then.
@@MtZionMediaPro honestly the non dual base has been a non-factor. The image is clean even at 1600, but my scenes are always lit so I haven't had a need to go beyond 800. The one thing I do miss compared to my pocket is gyro, but still not a huge deal.
The PYXIS is recycled, repackaged 6kFF camera. I don't really understand the fervor for it. But, I think the delay has more to do with Panasonic/Lumix delays with their own L mount ProRes video camera. There must've been some kind of agreement made between them.
The 6K FF has a great full frame sensor, and people who work on bigger productions NEED the I/O the Pyxis comes with: two CF Express B slots, SDI, BPU battery (better V-mount rigging options), and overall better riggability. The 6K FF was released primarily (my educated opinion) to test the sensor in the real world and monitor feedback from creators before releasing it in their new camera lineup.
I saw a post on Reddit where his supplier told him middle of September. ProRes is not an issue. You can export as ProRes from the Saver node within Fusion Studio. Your Davinci Studio license also works with Fusion Studio for free.
I don’t buy the da Vinci resolve problem you’re talking about. Maybe the Ursa 12 K, but the Pyxis is kind of like the older cameras so nothing there new. Maybe black Magic doesn’t have the money to ramp up production, or didn’t. That’s why they had a fire sale for several cameras a few months ago. To help raise money. Maybe they’re not doing that great. I think it’s a little too late now for the camera. I had one on order, but it took so long. I canceled it. Now I’m looking to see what new cameras Sony comes out at IBC
What makes the files that the 6kFF makes diff from pyxis. I have not tried beta. Not worth it. This camera was a concept.. a test baloon. They ran into parts issue or they are adding back the missing xlr and hmdi... Why would the software in camera be so much diff... this is a rehousing of 6kFF. Thanks for talking about it... I called bh 2 days ago as I am home in ny and thought I could get true answer as to why bh and ado removed availability projections. I ordered mine April 12th... it's damn near september... it ain't a resolve issue imho. 6kff has same files as pyxis... can't speak for new ursas... I'm sure waaaay more pyxis are on order. Would be back to hold back the re-housed cam for the unproven ursa. This is a test baloon ponzi ...best case they are adding a flip screen and giving the xlr and hdmi back... The stores don't even have a plastic replica... this cams were allll concept. Now they are trying to make it and failing... I won't be surprised if all orders get cancelled... After they actually make the cam, they'll need to charge more. I grabbed the reduced price 6kff..I think that's when they were like damn let's g8ve some goodwill, cause we ain't gonna give the pyxis in June like we announced.. Overall the food was great with some great highs 😊 But as to the camera, I don’t think they are adding any hardware to the camera. From all the accounts I’ve heard from different interviews, the hardware is about as final as it can be.

Removing prores was a mistake in my opinion. They didn't want to pay the licensing to apple. But Prores is still a great alternative to raw. We don't always need raw. I don't have a need for this camera just simply because it only records raw.

@@andynonimuss6298 I understand that, but now you're talking about transcoding. Another unnecessary step if you need to hand off footage to a client. Prores just works. Not saying there's not a place for raw, but to take away an industry standard codec is not the flex I think blackmagic thinks it is. I currently use an S5iiX to record prores to SSD. Client's won't want raw when you hand them dailies.
I agree. Mainly because there is no way to record lower resolutions using the full width of the sensor. Sometimes I just need 1080p or 4K, this camera forces you to record 6K if you want to use the full width of the sensor.
I'm having problems with my monitor. I have the dx3 version, everything works normally, the problem is that I can't turn it off. That's right! I have to remove the battery or the power supply to turn it off. It's the second viltrox monitor I buy that has problems
Hey there. I'm sorry you are having this issue. I personally have not come across this issue with the monitor I have. So does the prompt to turn the monitor off come up and you are not able to touch the screen to turn it off? or is the prompt not coming at all when you hit the power button?
@@cruisechill1813 can you? sure. but it’s a bit more complicated than that. There’s various shades of tones in the shadows of the Blackmagic, especially in the skin tones that takes much more effort to replicate on the C70. This is mainly because C-Log 2 is so aggressive at reaching into the shadows that it can come off flat.
Great video, how do I combine the film look with the color page though. And do the film look stack on AFTER all the clip corrections (like any timeline nodes)
@@kimeriksson7445 the film look creator is an effect that’s on the color page. You just need to look it up in the effects panel. Like any other timeline node the film look creator will stack on after any node before it. I typically use Resolve color management and it handles the entire color pipeline.
Great video man! The best one I've watched about this monitor. I have a question about the monitor because I can't find the answer online. With my camera I can only stream S-Log from the HDMI out to the monitor so if i apply LUT in to the monitor do the monitor streams the LUT from its HDMI/SDI out to the next device (for example wireless transmitter) or it streams it S-Log. And the other is can the monitor be used as a convertor. If you use the HDMI in can you do SDI out. Thank you in advance and have a great day!
@@vladovalkov2061 if you’re only sending s-log without a view assist. It will appear as S-log in camera until you apply the LUT in the monitor. For sending luts OUT of the monitor to another devise, I honestly can’t answer as I never actually tested that. I will make sure to do now. If you send a view assist out, it will apply the look but as mentioned in the video I would advise against it. As the exposure tools are affected by the video signal you send to the monitor. Update: yes you can loop HDMI in to SDI out.

The problem is that my camera can’t send the view assist out from the HDMI and my idea is to apply the LUT in to the monitor and then to send the image with the LUT applied to a director monitor from the VILTROX output via some sort of wireless transmitter.
@@vladovalkov2061 i have the same issue with their VILTROX DC-550 PRO i had to return it. i asked the same question on their website no answer i guess it does support Lut HDMI out, if its available on Amazon you can buy it and test it for yourself but don't buy directly from them or you can buy this instead Portkeys LH7P Camera Field Monitor 7 that's what i end up buying. but for Fx3,30 or so thats vitrox might be ok because you can apply lut in the camera but for A74 one of my sony camera with logassits only applied on camera monitor no hdmi passthrough it will not work.just my 2cents because i do a lot of livestreaming and its critical for me.
Another example of a smart person who cant teach .. 90% of the video is James talking about how and why you should use the plugin and maybe 1% showing you (badly) how to use it .. and not dealing with most important factor: Stefan, the developer of the plugin, told me in email that the plugin is only meant to be used at end of node tree after Rec 709 conversion.. None of this is mentioned in this tutorial. Oi vey.
R5 MK2 does not have Shutter Angle. That is the ONLY feature that I can say is missing from the R5MK2 from making it a PERFECT Hybrid camera. The R5MK2 rolling shutter is AMAZING especially compared to my R5. The image quality when shooting raw video is akin to shooting on a C70 as far as color and depth but there is extremely more detail so you can punch in. It feels good in the hands. We need SHUTTER ANGLE
Thanks for guest appearing on my channel James. It's always a pleasure. I look forward to the improvements on the video side, but the price does still surprise me. It's much higher than I expected. I look forward to Canon Log 2, the improved autofocus and the benefits from the stacked sensor. Full size HDMI port is also welcomed.
I’m loving the lowlight capabilities of this camera. The c400 has everything I love about the canon image but in a low light monster of a camera. Film grain-like noise pattern and an image I don’t have to fix. I definitely wish it had the modularity of a red DSMC2. Lower priced Interchangeable mounts would be awesome. I’d like to see it be used on more high end productions, since the original c500 was the studio filmmaking world when it came out.
It’s $4300 + the grip + extra new battery to run the grip + tax. There’s a huge difference if you buy the r5ii for +$5200 with the battery and fan. No shutter angle, no luts support, much louder fan, over sampled 4k60, super 16, time code, face only af, more codecs, not as tall as r5c with fan grip, no dual base iso, and no cinema menus / tools.
Hey James. Someone on the panel yesterday stated that the frame grab taken by depressing the shutter when recording video results in a 1080p image. Well from Canon's material, this is not true. An 8k image can be grabbed while in the record mode during recording.
