Removing the head from our sailboat and putting in a composting toilet this year This video addressed many practical considerations and was very helpful in deciding which composting toilet to buy. Thank you for making this video.
While these are good RV toilet solutions it galls me that the manufacturer claims they are composting toilets. This is NOT a composting toilet. It is a dry separating toilet. Calling it a composting loo is a marketing ploy so uniformed users can feel eco-virtuous. Unless you plan retaining the solids waste for several months to produce actual compost then this is not a composting toilet. It's a storage tank. Actual compost is bio-safe because it has been biologically sterilized over time with heat, enzymes, bacteria and more time. The output from this toilet is NOT compost and NOT biologically sterile. It is a pile of semi dried faeces and coir. Dumping the bagged waste in a trash can is definitely NOT environmentally responsible. Dumping it into an actual composting system would be the responsible action. However, all things considered dry separating toilets appear to be the lesser of evils.
My biggest problem is the fact that not everybody lives in a van or small space and needs the compact-ness of these guys, where is the composting toilet that has a full sized elongated seat??
This video appears to me to be an infomercial for Airhead. Comparisons usually have pros and cons. You certainly “dump” on NH. As a NH user of 9 years, I’m biased. All I can fairly comment on is real usage which appears to be not what you have done. Capacity: Nature’s Head Two adults pee bottle fills in approx 2 days of constant use on a sailboat . The solid part fills in about 17-18 days without putting any toilet paper in it. As for “looking” at the compost when R&R the pee container. Two quick clasps undone, Tilt the top enough to allow pee container to come up. One hand to tilt the top the other to remove the pee bottle reverse the process when you’re done and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the compost. I’ve talked online with Airhead users and they are happy with theirs as are NH users. Both are well made. Measure your space and govern yourself accordingly.
Happy to report it’s gotten a whole lot better! We just recently camped in the Stewart Point area and while there was some trash, it wasn’t trashed out like in this video. We always pick up what we can, and try to leave the site better than how we found it.
Thank you for the informative video! I am about to order an airhead now. I am undecided on which size to get though "residential" vs "marine". The marine, which you show in the video does offer more space saving. How has it been for you to use? Have you had any regrets about not buying the slightly larger seat size with the residential airhead? Thank you kindly, Nick
Looks like a giant lump of fossilized flesh with muscle fibers and some scales still attached to it in places, left over and exposed from Noah's great flood in : Genesis 7 Thanks for sharing.
Happy birthday! Love living vicariously through you both! I’m a techie that recently started looking at solar and really interested in the Tesla batteries! Love the creativity with the bed! Thanks for sharing! B safe u 2!
You guys did a phenominal job. Awesome. I wish I coul do something like this. Keep up the great work. The conversion of the ambulance is so beautiful. I love the blue backsplash.
Cheers for the vid. Just on the Airhead site now, and there's an option to have the crank handle on either the left or the right. Also, a double-sized urine tank.... and also a choice on where the extractor pipe & fan are housed on the unit (side or back)... (also, the seat option, as well as the fan set up (it's an extractor fan, so it should be housed at the extraction point?). It looks like they're designing in some necessary options into their system in the span of a couple of years, .... This fact alone made me change the colour of the Airhead cell in my spreadsheet from white to deep green.
The 99-02 7.3L Powerstroke is literally the toughest engine ever made for a truck. It came from the factory with forged rods and pistons, applications you usually only in 1000HP race cars. On top of that it only puts out about 250 horsepower, so its impossible to blow or be hard on. A literal tank of a truck. You can get a cheap (3-4k) used 99-02 7.3L with super high miles like 400k plus, but dont be scared by this.. check the blowback, these engines can go for 2 million miles or more. and the best part is they are exempt from almost all current diesel emissions requirements, meaning you don't need to run cats or DEF..

The Wave was a Windows background, Windows 7. Also, they only give out 68 permits a day to hike The Wave, so how can there be "hundreds of people trying to get a selfie with their IPhone"? Just wondering?
I have been studying youtube for info on the road out to White Pocket. I have a dually 4x4 truck and had been wondering how it would be getting out there and I see you got there with a dually truck. No problems? Did you lower tire pressure in the outside rear tires or all of them? Was your camper on the truck? Any other tips? Thanks
Guess if we're talking about likes and dislikes..... I'm thinking the whole time, why are you doing this on picnic tables that people regularly eat from.....
So you stand there and complain endlessly about how gross it is, did you bother to get a trash bag and help clean up the area? No you just moved on because it was too gross for you. Clearly you didn’t care too much or you would’ve helped clean it up. Stop your whining. It’s annoying.
I just bought one and im sort of a minimalist. I'm going to put a toilet, shower, propane stovetop and sink, attach a nice futon to the floor, cover up the ambulancee looking stuff with something cool and call it home.
