I know this is a very old post but what year is this? Nice 0-60 btw, I got almost 6 flat factoring in wheelspin..about 6.4 at the highest. Wanting to know because of the transmission differences. Im wanting to be putting about 90hp over stock in one when i get it (its a 96) not sure if the 4t60ehd will hold up but a tune surely would help pressures and whatnot
It’s a 1998, 4t65eHD. I think adding 90 HP over stock is a reasonable goal, but tuning shifts is important for the transmission to take that power, imo. The 96 year was on the edge of OBD2 compliance and not sure if HP Tuners or other software will interface with the 4t60e. If you’re serious about finding out, visit rivperformance.com and read up!
FOUR 1999 Rivs for sale restored to better than new 1998 parts will not fit a 1999 defects tweaked out for last year less than 100 exist in the world an investment not just a car buy
I owned a 98. Silver with the dark red interior. I only sold it to keep my soon to be ex from getting it. One of the very best high speed expressway cars I've ever driven. And I've driven a whole lot of cars since my dad was a auto dealer his entire life and brought home some very cool demo's and trade ins. He is long gone now but we had a good business along with the fun for many years.

It is good to be the owner of a 1970 Olds. 98. I have a 2 door Convertable! I am also looking for parts! I am in need of the 2 trim pieces that are between the door and wheel well and the door and a Blue steering wheel. I also need the AC brackets and the AC compressor. I would be grateful if you had any of these parts and are willing to let go of them. 1 last thing. If you could send me a picture of the steering wheel, that would be awesome!
Mine is doing same stuff especially on launch and 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. N haven't had E-brake on car since I got it so makes me think is part of E-brake lose or messed up catching. About to put in pedder drag x springs and drag bags so perfect time to check it all out. Thanks for video and info
This turned out to be a piece of broken off brake pad trapped between the disk and the splash shield. Easy fix once I pulled the rotor for brake job, good luck solving your issue.
Wonderful! Pure documentary. I'm a former TV producer (Discovery Channel, Geographic, etc.) and this is so perfect, I've watched it several times .Just bought a 97 Riviera. Think I'm in love.
Thanks for the kind words, Hank. Hope you will enjoy your new Riv as much as I did. It is no sports car, but handles its own on the track with a few tweaks - definitely raised some eye brows and dropped a few jaws!
300 crank HP (248 whp). It had a few other bolt-ons, and a custom tune, but the pulley did most of the work. Autolight AL104 plugs, 180º t-stat, Fender well intake w/K&N cone, 1.9:1 alum rocker arms, oil-restricted pushrods, LS6 valve springs, SLP exhaust headers, ZZP fuel rails, DHP tuned. That sounds like a lot, but most of it just supports the 3.4" pulley so things didn't blow up. The rockers and headers added probably 20-25HP to the mid/high end. Overall maybe $2-3k in mods for a 60HP bump.
Was sad to see this place closed last year. A buddy's birthday there in February 2020 was the last big outing I had with friends before the pandemic. Great time.
I have 4 for sale all completely restored! Less than 100 exist 1999 model GM tweaked all the imperfections out of previous years then stop making this beautiful machine I have 4
Ya I remember 1970 vehicles my older brother had a '70 Chevelle with the seat belts like this car , i remember him saying that they're annoying and removed both of them above the window and put lap belts only in front .
In1973 I got my grandfather a 70 98 coupe when I turned 16. Loved that car. I was probably the only 16 year old that wore the seat belts- even the shoulder belt- back then. They really enhanced the way the car drove and handled when planted in the seat especially in curves. I 1978 was in a head on collision with a drunk driver in a 77 Fleetwood. He had on the three point belt, but the shoulder belt was under his arm pit, basically just a lap belt. I walked away with only bruises from my lap and shoulder belts. The other driver creamed the steering wheel with major head and face trauma. His unbelted passenger went through the windshield. When the paramedics got there, they figured the Olds driver would be the most seriously injured person. All I can say is that the lap and "aggravating " shoulder belt probably saved my life. The funny thing is that all my friends thought I was a nutcase for buckling up every time I drove that car. Go figure.
The most any of my friends would do is begrudgingly wear the lap belt. They felt confined, couldn't reach the lighter or radio or thought they looked stupid with the shoulder belt on. LOL
Thank you! The car has changed hands since this video was taken. The new owner is near Miami, FL. PS - bet it was fun to drive and park that '72 in those little UK towns!
These cars are all fun and games til the torque converter (Notorious for these cars) or tranny start to go. Mine was WAY faster when I first got it. Now it'll go 0-60 in 10 or so secs. Very upset about it. These are beautiful, Well made cars, Aside from GMs lack of quality transmissions at that time.
There are cost-effective ways to improve the longevity of this transmission, even making extra power. My engine was modded to make 14lb of boost for an extra 60HP over stock, and the transmission took that abuse daily until 151k miles. At that point the transmission died and I paid for a stock rebuild (it was affordable). I added a transmission cooler and tuned the shift points and pressures for firmer shifts at higher RPM. The transmission was still rock-solid at 246k miles when I sold the car, and it saw many high-stress situations, including towing and track racing. I never babied this car, in fact I flogged it constantly. Overall I'm not dissatisfied with how the trans performed during the time I owned it. I believe the PCM tuning helped a lot.
@@vanwiseman good to know. I am at 210k and have thought about a new torque converter, cooler lines and such, but being that I'm in the salt belt of northeastern America , My car is sadly rotting out :/
Yes! Just replaced the clutch, slave/throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, and flywheel. I don't feel the vibration now, and I even reinstalled the solid poly trans mount that made it worse before. The throw-out bearing was in bad shape, pretty sure that was the cause.
Well that’s not bad considering it’s a 90’s LUXURY CAR!!!!!!!! Can you count how many LUXURY cars from the 90’s came with super chargers ??????? Next to none!!!
I grew up driving RWD cars, and I still do. This FWD car was a way more practical 2nd car, and a better winter car, than my RWD cars. Sorry, AWD is too inefficient and high maintenance for my needs. AWD is also overrated in terms of performance for 90% of drivers, imo. Talk with anyone who's tracked an AWD car and you'll know what I mean.
