Hidden Gems, Challenge Runs, AI Arenas, Guides, and other shenanigans!
Mostly I cover Tactics Ogre plus the wider Ogre Battle series, Armored Core, Fell Seal, Xenonauts, and other random things I enjoy. I like weird strategy games, and finding uses for things others may throw aside.
If it's oddly specific and I know enough about it to ramble for hours, it'll be here.
It always weirded me out how haters hate on tactics advanced simply because it is different from the original, and think that that is a valid reason. like wtf??? how is that even a reasonable concern???
Ffs, zero interest in renting the game. I wana purchase it. Its the first time this game is gonna be available in EU and I need to sub to psplus to play it for a while till my sub runs out? F that.
Update when I can confirm, but supposedly buying the PSP version also gives you the upgraded 4/5 version. Supposedly. I see my old PS1 games on there, but didn't even know it had a digital release until recently, so will update when possible.
You didn't mention while talking about terrain element bonuses that each type of terrain has unique offensive/defensive modifiers, which are extremely impactful. I can't find much information about the specifics online, but terrain on both sides can sometimes make the difference between doing single digit damage with shaky hitrates and dealing over a hundred accurately (ie. standing on an ash tile while the enemy is flying over lava makes for some wasteful combat). It's probably one of the reasons why bows and magic seem to be leagues ahead of any melee weapon, since you get much more freedom to pick and choose where you stand to get the maximum benefit. It would be nice to get more detail about the way height+obstacles impact projectile weapons as well, as it's one of the most complex and confusing features of the game (and really impressive considering the hardware). Also, is there any real reason to devote an inventory slot to armor rather than carry an extra item? I found through experimentation that only on already tanky units do you get a noticeable difference in damage reduction, and the loss of speed along with an equipment slot still makes this a hard sell.
I completely forgot about this game, couldn't tell you anything about it as it's been so long, but I have my physical copy somewhere around here I'm sure.
So damn exited for this, miss this Level-5/Sony partnership. Also if you own the psvita/ps3 version of this it will be on your account worked the same as Legend of Dragoon and Wild Arms did if you owned those already.
Considering how much I love cross classing in FFT or Fell Seal, the fact that TO could completely remove it in Reborn and still have that be my favorite version of the game was pretty telling. Though it was fun to do a lot of animate dead/retissue stuff to try to get all of the faerie, gremlin, and pumpkin kisses on a human rogue. It's like getting those silly emblems for being every class in Knight of Lodis... except for making out.
I didn't finished this game on my PSP which I still have on my PSP emulator on my phone but since there is a life improvement on the port, I might get it on my PS5.
@@comicdragon1 Funnily enough I had just transferred this save from my phone after I had to replace my phone, and only found out later PPSSPP didn't transfer anything to the new one 😆
@CoffeePotato yeah I also notice when I transferred from my Samsung S20 to my S21 and also from S21 to my S23. I still trying to figure out how to get it to read the save files. I might explore more on this when I am going to transfer to next phone. I also play ppsspp on my pc as well.
I thought it was just kinda okay. Certainly the most fun implementation of "take another turn", but otherwise very by the numbers. Have I been tainted by too much Fate? Maybe I should've been clued in as I wasn't quite impacted by certain dark twists. I did appreciate that people actually get upset when bad things happen. Good stuff with the 3D lowpoly maps, really made me appreciate how traversal can really change SRPGs. Hmmmmmm. I'd kinda compare it to FF9 in many ways.
Ah yes, Sony and its unwillingness to get more money by making a game that would be perfect for steamdeck (and similars) exclusive to their big consoles. Shame, guess its still emulation for me.
@@rafalst It's not ideal, but it's there, I guess. I know something like this service would have been a perfect for at some point in my life, but it's awkward seeing it today and just thinking "The Vita did this better for a one time cost like a decade ago...and it's still better."
It would be nice if it was black, but atleast Jeanne's hairstyle in the game is somewhat accurate. Lots of games, shows, etc about her just leaves it long.
I haven’t played this game but if I’m being honest I lost a lot of interest when you said on the PSN service. I’d buy this game physically day on for either PS5 or preferably, Switch.
God damn!!! Good times indeed. Only change to this game I would wish for is the speed up function like TO Reborn. Folks don't sleep on this game, its extremely accurate* with history!! Relive the Joan of Arc 😁
@@CoffeePotato I don't know!! I never used that service, I do wish other people play it though. Good games deserve proper recognition. For this particular game, I finished it twice, if it gets a Reborn treatment, I will definitely pick it up.
@@CoffeePotato Obviously, that's why they have always tried to outlaw indie emulators, they know its a huge business. I have no problem with that to be honest, a lot of people are willing to pay a fortune to relive their nostalgia, but those of us who know how to do it ourselves or at least know the method to find it, reserve the right to do so 😁
The problem I had with this system is that the replay value was destroyed. It took FOREVER for classes to catch up. If there was better rubber-banding, I think it all would have been good.
@@Blandation It just sucked to grind to adjust a build for a wall you couldn't see ahead of time. Classic being the mistake of a Fire Valkyrie. RB you just adjust and keep exploring, feels great.
I was going to try and cover that soon. Unfortunately don't have their premium service. I was hoping to pick it up, but $17 monthly is nuts for what it's got from what I can tell.
I never quite fell for the cross class delusion. Coming from Final Fantasy Tactics before playing this, a bunch of passives don't really do it for me for cross class content.
Hope to help! Funnily enough I've been working on a comparison between all of the basic classes when just left on AI forever...kinda seeing how long it takes for them to get stuck. Long story short, it was beyond shocking seeing the Rune Fencer team still steamrolling through Chapter 3 and beyond. Apparently Voulges are just that good 😆
It's a mix of Ultima, Golden Sun, and FFT/Tactics Ogre, essentially. It's an SRPG, hours ain't a good metric here, but it's going to be a week or so on a first playthrough, with variations based on how you handle different things. There's a lot of exploration, and you handle it at your own pace. Let's say like....about the size of Dark Souls 1 map design wise, but the fights are turn based, and your combat skills are also your puzzle solving skills.
i find the best way is run gryphons is to have a hawkman beastmaster, that way he can keep close regardless of elevation to buff and heal the gryphons, along with a bow or sidearm to build TP
This is what I like about the internet. There's this old game I like and none of my friends seem to have even heard of, do a search and realise there's a metric fuckton of depth I didn't even know existed. And people making content about that. Thanks for the video.
Hi Coffee, this is Luis from Argentina. Amazing guide. This is the sort of guide I needed, it provided the logic behind the mechanisms and left me wanting to discover the rest and how deep stuff goes. Def the proper depth for a guide. New sub.... oh and I wanted to let you know that there is a tabletop rpg (with solitary mode) inspired by the series and even shares mechanics. Its called OVER WAR by Blackoath Entertainment.
@@CoffeePotato Oh, you can transfer every skill? I thought you could only do one per character. Thanks for the info. I don't know much about the game; I did one playthrough of the base game years ago.
@@Reviresco as long as is compatible, and they are the same race. and you lose progress on any ranked skill( if you had 54% of rank 4,as an example) it goes back to 0% rank 4)
