Each year, roughly 10 million people die from cancer, almost 20 million die from heart disease, obesity is at epidemic levels, and up to half a billion people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. In 1980 there were no cases of adolescent diabetes in America. Today there are hundreds of thousands. And although less lethal, 40% of men over 45 today suffer from complications of low testosterone and almost 10% of women experience menstrual irregularities and infertility. All of these disorders (and many others) have one thing in common... To varying degrees, each is caused or exacerbated by the inability of the hormone insulin to perform as it should-a condition, largely within our control, known as Insulin Resistance. And, you might have it. Start raising your insulin IQ and discover what you can do to start feeling better.
Thank you Dr Bikman. I would like to ask if Cerramides applies topically as an active ingredient in Skincare products, are metabolised to impact ones system as per endogenous cerramides? Thank you
Liposuction has taken away all my pain and given me better flow in the lymfatic system. Operated in germany by a specialist. 2 ops and still after 6 years i am good. Seen a girl with severe anorexia and the lipedema was still there and she was only skin and bones otherwise (like someone blown her legs like ballons). Done ton of good diets and fat loss always stop when only lipedema is left. Even wrongly been operated a gbp and the same results. Eating good just made a marginal effect on pain for me, ops saved me from it. Cutting fast carbs helps better fore some and for some so little that op is still the solution. Dont forget we also need chlothes and shoes and if like me kive in a country that gas long winter it is so hard to dress a lipedema body. We have same needs as everyone else!
Thanx Ben for your work and dedication. After reading your book and carefully spotting several conferences and interviews, I still struggle to match your thoughts about the origin of IR with Dr Lustig theory, if it is possible to someone to get IR irrespective of the previous weight gain. Could you please indicate where you touch this issue? Thank again. Cheers from Uruguay
@insuliniq Ben: I beg you to read these research articles on B1. They match perfectly with what you're saying about the dangers of high carb/ high sugar/ frequent booze. I agree we're getting more insulin resistant, BUT those "manmade carbs" & sugars or frequency of alcohol are actually depleting our B1 thiamin during krebbs cycle! Actually very common mimicking other diseases as the first article says. -"Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency" -"Sugar intake and thiamine" BY DERRICK LONSDALE MD, FACN, CNS -"Thiamin Deficiency (Beriberi; Vitamin B1 Deficiency)" By Larry E. Johnson, MD, PhD -"A Patient With Thiamine Deficiency Exhibiting Muscle Edema Suggested by MRI" -"Wet Beriberi Associated with Hikikomori Syndrome"
I find I sleep a lot better on a full stomach. In fact I pack 3 big meals in, with snacks in between in an 8 hour period before bed every day and sleep like a baby
Ok. So yes i did have very painful periods. No children. Drs who prescribed me contraceptives for it (without my knowledge of what they really were) 🤨 this is now making sense.
Dr Great Video So if we have Uric acid test value & blood sugar value in Fasting stage, czn we measure Fasting Insulin levels in blood as it relates to insulin resistance? Kindly reply Dr
Thank you Prof Ben. WONDERFUL lecture. I can listen to you all day. You need never worry about length of lecture. So understandable. 81 year female from Australia here lost over 120 lbs in last 5 years. Thank you for sharing your info. Finally am not the fattest woman in the room.
Can you discuss the fact that uric acid is known to be an antioxidant and that low uric acid can also be problematic and prevalent in Parkinson's and other diseases?
Dear Dr Bikman, what do you think of Dr Will Bulsiewicz (Dr B) and his plant based diet strategy? Why do some doctors (worldwide famous doctors) insist on plant based diet? But I trust more in your opinion and I'm eating more meat now and I'm sick and tired of limiting meat. 😢
I think he is referring to it being the equivalent of six meals a day because people consume so many liquid calories and high fructose snacks in between actual meals.
Retired FP physician here. Had all this physiology in med school. Passed the exams. Promptly went on to ignore it as my training progressed. Never again was this knowledge ever addressed, but even ignored. Can’t tell you how many things I was taught 40 years ago that have been overturned. It’s one of the main reasons I retired. So much modern medicine is garbage.
I don’t know if it would cure your schizophrenia, but I bet your symptoms will improve. I’ve seen youtube videos of people saying it either improved or cured their depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Brains love running on ketones, so my guess is that you’ll feel better somehow. 🙏 I hope so!
Also try high-dose niacin therapy. There is a book called "Niacin the untold story" that talks a lot about how people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder benefit from high-dose niacin therapy, and it even posits that some of these disorders stem from a vitamin deficiency. It's worth a try.
Read " Nutrient Power" by Dr William Walsh. He studied schizophrenics , bipolar , adhd , depression, etc , and discovered a cluster of genetic, vit, mineral and protien deficiencies associated with mental health problems. His treatment was diet and specialized supplementation....no drugs. You should get yourself genetically tested to see if you have methylation issues from mthfr mutations or other snp's that may be causing issues. Over methylation or under methylation can cause serious brain issues. Dr Hoffer a Canadian psychiatrist would use high dose niacin and high dose glycine....like 60 grams per day to cure schitzo affective disorders. Glycine is crucial for modulating methylation and for damping down glutamate excitotoxicity in the brain. People with mthfr mutations often dump glycine so it needs to be topped up or the brain suffers. Your normal GP or Dr will probably not know this stuff. A strict ketogenic diet will reduce oxidative stress in the brain and increase mitochondria by 400% in 3 or 4 months. Exercise will increase mitochondria too and raise BDNF in the brain. Inflammarton in the glial cells often causes schitzo and other brain issues and dysrupts the glutamate / gaba system. Anything that reduces inflammation is beneficial for the brain. Keto is king for this but supplements help too. Omega 3's , curcumin, lions mane , NAC, choline ( egg yolk), and many other herbs and supplements are helpfull. They are easily sourced online and theres tons of research available. Keep searching...try supplements....but be carefull with b vitamins as certain people react badly to too much folate. You need to fine tune the B's but often they are crucial to fixing metabolic issues. Also...check to see if you have elevated homocystine or pyrole disorder. 8 % of people will have this disorder. It is genetic and brought on by stress. Its usually never tested for. Pyrole disorder results in higher kryptopyroles being made. They are a waste product of hemoglobin production and you just pee them out. However, higher levels will sap zinc and b 6 from the body. Zinc is crucial for all sorts of things including serotonin production. Its a simple urine test. You have to eliminate these potential causes as they might be exacerbating things or even causing health problems. Keep searching and trust you will find the solutions and health strategies you need.
Check out the Metabolic Mind RU-vid channel. They have all sorts of info and interviews with Dr’s and patients using keto to help with that and other things like bipolar, eating disorders, depression, etc. The results have been incredible if you listen to their interviews. Best wishes
Do you ever think the powers that be will succomb to the overwhelming fact that a truly Ancestral diet ( think 300 years past) is the best way forward to help all manner of conditions. Exercise is a huge factor too of course. Thank you Dr Bikman and Team.
Thanks Dr. Bikman!! Dr. Anthony Chaffee just released a video of an interview with a woman who said her Parkinsonism was essentially put into remission with a Carnivore way of eating! 🎉
You brushed by “breaking your fast matters more than how long you fast”. Please elaborate! Love your education, my brain is being fed so much as I listen to your lectures. Many thanks!
honestly, sounds like another high failure diet. Find a way to eat without processed refined foods, you won't need any of those drugs or any fad diets.
If everyone walked for 30 to 60 minutes a day it will change your life. I have never met anybody in the history of meeting anybody in the gym that works out that didn't say that they love what they do in the gym. If more people were to get gym memberships and actually use them on a daily basis they would be happier in life and if more people were to get gym memberships and actually use them on a daily basis they would be happier in life. I repeat because it is so true. You look good, you feel good.
Instead of telling people not to eat processed carbs which is a good thing to tell people. Why don't doctors focus on telling people to get exercise and natural sunlight which is the best thing you can do for your body.
It’s like they have this film over they eyes and can’t see what we all see along with these functional drs that have the scales fallen from their eyes like Dr Bikman Mind control under big pharma
What you should do is specify not generalize. You should say cakes donuts pies bread cereal and all carbs in Frozen Microwave meals. Pasta, pizza, those are not classified Whole foods. Eat whole foods and you will thrive.
Everything at the grocery store has a barcode you have to have a barcode to buy it. This guy is stupid. What he should have said is processed carbs. Lots of rice brands are good carbs.
Is it safe to weight train and strength train with lipedema? I live in rural VA and my drs’s haven’t even heard of lipedema let alone have advice on how to safely try to lose weight.
