We grew up in the same era and I still love my glam metal to this day but also love everything metal. Heavy metal, Thrash, Death, Symphonic, and melodic Black metal. Really enjoyed your video mate😃🤘
Great video dude. I'm a little older than you and grew up in l.a. during these times. Got to see so many of these bands live. Totally agree with the poison album. That motley album you showed is also their best in my opinion .I personally like ratts e.p. better than their other albums. Not sure what you consider queensryche but their e.p. was also awesome. Just found you. Gonna go back and watch all your other videos. 😁
@@johnbmx4christ I agree with you on the motley Crue album. It's by far their best. I love queensryche never really considered them hair metal though. I always saw them as straight up metal
Well if you consider Def Leppard to be glam metal which many people do including myself, then I have to say that On Through The Night is by far my favorite debut
I love Def Leppard they're one of my favorite bands. I think they're a great new wave of British heavy metal band. That's kind of how I classified them. Their first three records. I don't think I really considered them Glam until pour some sugar on me came out. But that's what's great about this whole thing. It's all subjective. Some people consider them new wave of British heavy metal. Others consider them Glam metal from the beginning and I think both can be correct
There were two weird bands from the 80's for me. Cinderella and Guns N Roses... because their debut albums are probably in my top 20 favorite albums of all time (Night Songs and Appetite), but I don't care much for anything else they ever did... especially GNR
Love your videos man... and this one takes me back to the best era of music in history. I know the 50's had the beginnings of rock with Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, etc... the 60's had the beginnings of hard rock and metal and some of my favorite bands ever, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc... the 70's goes without saying, just so much great music. But the 80's not only had hair/party metals bands like Motley Crue, Ratt, and hundreds more... but also had the beginning of thrash and more extreme metal, but it had videos on MTV that we could all see our favorite bands playing right there on our TV's. The 80's didn't just have the audio to the greatest bands of the era but the video as well. That's why I think it's the greatest era in music history... plus I was born in 72 so the 80's were the prime of my teen years, lol... CHEERS BROTHER
I completely agree with you my man. Mtv played a huge part in the explosion of heavy metal and I don't think at all it would have happened without it. Radio would have gotten a handful of Vans big like it did for pop bands and then bands in the '70s but the music and the look is what was selling in that era and it was huge
Let me start with the best...Awesome t shirt dude! Lol! 80's glam metal was a term that was really just deriving from glam rock from the 70's and more about an image... I never considered that derogatory. Hair metal however definitely had a derogatory tones when I heard it used in 90's for sure. Mostly after the new stuff "Grunge" (another term is stupid and actually referes to the clothing style) was the flavor of the day. Great vid my friend. I also totally agree on the Bon Jovi front. Some of their stuff is tolerable (debut & 7800°F)...but its hard rock at best. If I didn't have my grandson's for this stretch, I'd be on this like you on Poison! Lol! Love this idea Brett. Cheers bud! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
Hey buddy. I agree. Hair metal seemed like it was a big dig at those bands. It was just an image and I'm sure a lot of the record companies were pushing the bands to have that image. I've read articles over the years where there was more than a few bands that we all know and love to this day that the record companies really tried to get them to do the hair and the clothing in the vein of the hair metal and Glam metal scene even when those bands didn't want to
My mom listened to all that stuff, minus WASP. I was never into the hair stuff but do enjoy it now when I’m in the mood for it. I was a bit surprised when I saw Winger is playing the progpower fest this year.
I get that. I am willing to bet that if I was much older during the '80s I probably really wouldn't like that stuff much either. I would have gravitated towards the heavier stuff a lot sooner
Night songs is definitely my favorite, but another lesser know one was the SLEEZE BEEZ debut "screwed blued and tattooed", also Every Mother's Nightmare, I know those 2 came later but they're so good....As far as WASP goes, I honestly don't consider them glam at all, personally I'd say straight up heavy metal more akin to Lizzy Borden. Either way, it's a great album, i'm kind of partial to "electric circus" because that was one of the earliest cassettes in my collection. I'm around your age and I think you're spot on about when the term "glam metal" or "hair metal" came around.
Hi Ron. Hope all is well with you this weekend. I agree with you on wasp. However I really wanted to include them in the video as they are one of my favorites. I think some bands who were not glam got caught up in what was happening image wise in those days and were maybe forced to use that look even if the music wasn't glam
Lol! "I suck at reviews...you should go watch another channel"! That sounds like something I'd say Brett! Not really a death metal guy, but still enjoy your videos pal. Good stuff man. Cheers bud! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
Great choices...Viking and Intruder are two of my favorites, all of the albums from both are killer. I need to check out Razor again. I checked em out a few years ago, but something about the singers voice bothered me. Wouldn't mind running across original pressings of the Paradox albums. I have Heresy on CD, but that's it.
Give razor another go. I think the vocals make it. I really do. Just fits in my opinion. Would love to hear your thoughts after you give em a new listen
Hey Brett! Awesome man! 1st two Razor lps are great..I did hear the EP a long time ago. Feel the same about the Annihilator lp's. Honestly the other stuff you presented I am not familiar with. Viking sounds interesting with the Benatar cover. Love that tune. Almost everything I heard that wasn't under my roof were shared blank cassette dude. That was the way peer to peer was. But admittedly...and maybe a shocker, I'm not huge into thrash...but the ones I like, I really like!! Great presentation Brett. Good list for me to look into. Cool. Cheers bud! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
Did I just find a channel that will keep the Metal in me alive? No worries, it will never die… Your thread came up and am a sub, have a good one man 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks man. I am loving doing this series. I gotta head to Texas tomorrow for work but I will do the metal mount Rushmore when I get back. I loved your video on the death metal Rushmore
I still enjoy that album...Wish they would play more off that album We got lucky since we're old and got to see them live during that album tour.. Nice shirt too..One I don't have..😂
I really like Load, it's just too damn long. About an hour in I'm just bored with it. I think with Load and Reload, they could have cut a bunch out and come up with two killer albums. I hated their new look on load more than their new sound.
I feel that way on reload. Like I felt they could have cut half these songs on reload and then thrown the other ones on load. Or just maybe come up with the 12 best songs between the two and only done one album? And then maybe if they had taken the rest of it and done like a kind of release where they're like. Hey, these are unreleased tracks. I bet fans would have bought it up even though the songs weren't as good
@@harmlessrebel868 yes. The Beyond Magnetic EP. 3 of the four songs were definitely good enough to make the album. I was lucky enough to get tickets to Metallica's 30th Anniversary parties at the Fillmore in San Francisco. They played four shows. I went to the first two and each show they debuted one of the songs from that EP. I can remember thinking how cool it was to hear those live for the first time
Load is a killer album!! I don't think Metallica has put out a bad album even St Anger has some killer tunes on it. I really dig when a band changes sound and does something different, like Motley Crue Dogs Of War I absolutely love that song.
I completely agree. I didn't dislike saint anger. Way too many killer riffs to be a bad record. Death magnetic hardwired and 72 seasons are excellent records as well.
Awesome memories man! I was definitely taken by surprise when this album came out. I didn't check out though, just obviously not into this and Reload as much as anything before or after. At that time in my life there wasn't really much happening with buds and stuff to connect on, so that's part of it. Nowadays I actually really like both these Load and Reload albums (there's no Metallica I don't like) though combining both would've made a monster album imho. Good stuff Brett! Did you ever finish college? Or is it still a case of, haven't finished...YET! Lol! Cheers bud! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
Thanks man. When I say I don't like reload, it's really hard to make that statement because I love everything Metallica's ever put out. It's just a case of reload being one of my least favorite of the albums they put out. I love load and reload has some really great songs but there are some songs in my opinion that are just filler on that album. I wish they just would have made the double album And yes I did finish college. I even went back after finishing up and got my master's degree in military history and I'll combined it still only took me just 6 years lolol.
Great story, I miss the old days! I was sixteen when it came out and didn’t care for it. I like now that I’m an old man. I did see them that summer of 96 on the lollapalooza tour.
There are lots of albums that did that fur me too. Didn't care for when they came out but as I got older I love them. I missed that Lollapalooza tour. But saw them so many times in the 96/97 tour then the summer 98 tour
In all honestly Load is good albums. I wasn't upset that they changed directions, I still have some killer memories to it. Funny enough it was the only metal album my mom and dad like. So when I listen to it, it's like hanging out with my parents again.
That's pretty cool dude. Good to have those memories of your folks as well. I really like the album and I don't hate reload but it seems like they could have just made load like 15 16 songs and cut some of the fat that ended up being on reload
The Load album. Man, I enjoyed it at the time and I still like it now. I went years not listening to it because I got into heavier stuff but now I appreciate it.
I still like it just as much as I always did and to this day instead of listening to the songs that they put out as singles, I prefer to listen to some of the deeper cuts on that record. As you've mentioned in your videos as well, the '90s were a weird time. Ha
Piece Of Mind is far from overlooked! If you actually follow the metal community, many Ed Heads will tell you POM is their favorite! The Ultimate Sin is far from overlooked! It’s so overlooked that people have been screaming for a reissue! It’s a highly sought after album on vinyl! asylum is decent but NOT overlooked! The overlooked Kiss album is The Elder! It’s been bashed but is actually a good damn album! There is no overlooked Pantera 90’s album! Theatre Of Pain is where they began to go down hill! It has a couple good songs but that’s it! Smokin’ In The Boys Room is a lame cover after the great job they did on Helter Skelter! City Boy Blues, Louder Than Hell, (a rework of a SATD cutting room floor track) Home Sweet HomeSa e Our Souls & Tonight, We Need A Lover are the only good songs on there! It’s about their 4th or 5th best album! The Crue album that’s overlooked is the Self Titled album with John! That’s also their third best album!
South of Heaven, my favorite Slayer album... and So Far So Good is an underrated classic as well. Cool video brotha, we have similar tastes in metal I see LOL
It was actually recorded when they did SATD! If you can find a late 90’s/early 2000’s CD reissue of SATD, you will get the original version of that song as a bonus track.
Even though Jake is my favorite Ozzy guitarist, No Rest for the Wicked is my favorite Ozzy album... every song is great... no filler on that one. Blizzard has a couple of "filler" tracks, imo... Diary is a very close second to No Rest. And then the 2 Jake albums have some filler, imo, but I still love them too.
If you're limiting it to 1 album per band: Master of Puppets (really hard to choose between the first 3) Peace Sells Arise Spreading the Disease (props to you for choosing this one and I agree... Among the Living is really close) South of Heaven
Solid list. I really wanted to include south of heaven as it is my favorite slayer album. It was difficult. I mean I easily could have just picked 5 Metallica slayer Megadeth or anthrax albums. Lol
I had that one ready to pick. But I figured that one would be popular lol. I wanted to go a different route. But I had that one. And peace sells on the short list
Bought the CD. Didnt check out any of the singles,or the vinyl varients as it didnt interest me. But pleasntly surprised i didnt expect it to be as good as it was i liked Residue,Trophies of the tyrant, and crucifixtion
Agreed, 5 perfect album to choose. I felt the same about Beneath The Remains for the longest time, but over the last 10 years or so Schizophrenia has become my favorite albums...can't wait for the rerecording in a few months. The Whiplash is a killer album, and killer bands. I just bought on OG German pressing from a buddy in Germany, should be coming in the mail in the next few days.
Something that's kind of funny about that Sepultura schizophrenia issue. My buddy knew how much I loved early Sepultura and he went to see them play in Connecticut and knew I missed it. So he got me the poster signed by Max and Igor and I was asking him. Do you think they'll ever re-record the other early albums? And he said no I doubt it. Lol. Not a week or so later they announced schizophrenia is coming out. Lol
Hell Yeah!!! Awesome saves, Brett. Thanks for the kind words and the shout out. I am really enjoying seeing these videos. It is so cool that y'all are doing these. I have not heard of Electrocutioner, on my way now to check them out on Band Camp. Once again, killer saves and awesome video. \m/
Saving the best for last! 🤘🤘 Almost an impossible task though! My records have become my most valuable material item and almost impossible in some cases to replace. I'm just starting the process of evaluating and insuring them. Good stuff man! Cheers bud! 🍻✌️
@@headbangerscloset8552 I can tell you it would be Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Metal Church, and...number five would have to be Pantera or Slayer probably. But I don't have any Pantera or Slayer on vinyl yet so I get to double down on Metallica man lol! 🤘🤘
