My mom spent a year dying horrifically, and spent six months in a nursing home. In those six months, I went every two or three days. During that time, in a nursing home with about 80 patients, I saw seven visitors to other people. Not seven each visit. Just seven. Nothing but overworked nurses and languishing patients. The people who said that we need to stop breeding are about to find out the consequences of those words, and it's incredibly bleak.

A train from Newcastle to London was showing £110 for a single trip. For £65 me and my friends instead flew from Newcastle to Krakow, Poland with accomodation for 5 days for £65. Something that a lot of people are unaware of is that historically, few women actually wanted to have as many children as they were forced to, whether by controlling husbands and societies, or other circumstances. Humans evolved to be nomadic hunters and fullterm pregnancies were rare, and surviving children even rarer, women are only designed to birth and nuture as many infants as can be carried by the tribe - about only one child every 4 years per woman because by 4 years old children can walk on their own pretty reliably enough to keep up with adults. As societies settled and formed cities thousands of years ago, women were expected to have infants on a far greater inteval than their bodies could handle - Up until the invention of the birth control pill in the 1960s it wasn't at all uncommon for women to be pregnant for most of their adult lives, until they often died from complications that only happen when an individual is continously pregnant for years on end with only months inbetween miscarriages or births, and conceptions. A slow and torturous way of dying. Miscarriages and infant mortality were incredibly high. So high that in many cultures it was considered taboo to announce pregnancies until the mother was visibly showing, or even until after the child was born in some cases. The fact that women don't have to endure this in developed nations anymore has not only alleviated the suffering of not just women, but their children too. The fewer pregnancies that occur now are safer than ever for woman and child, with a much higher ratio of healthy fullterm births than ever before. So yes, the population is smaller, but quality of life is greater. And you can't really blame modern women for being wholly unwilling to experience the same suffering of their foremothers.
