Hi Graham, im brewing this one now and hope you can help. When you kegged this did you add the priming sugar from the kit or do you let the CO2 do its work.
Hi Michael . No I don’t use priming sugar at all as that will just make fizzy stout . I force carbonate after fermentation and serve cheers hope that helps 🍻
Love your stuff Graham, i'm exploring the wondeful world of nitro. I have a question for you, what is the pressure when you serve your stouts or this IPA?
Has this been your best yet, Graham? I am moving in to all-grain and was pleased to see you've already tried this as this was gonna be my first and I hadn't saw any video reviews.
Alright mate it is up there alright. Very close to Guinness and very nice to drink . I am actually going to brew this again very soon but maybe just done minor adjustments. Really nice pint and definitely worth a brew . Cheers 🍻
@grahamlawlorshomebrewrevie8227 bit of an update here, Graham. I brewed this and the lactic acid is really a game changer - think I saw you comment saying you didn't add it. If you're doing it again I would recommend it - it was recommended 3-4ml per full corney keg. I used 3.5ml, would maybe do 3ml next time. I got the supplies and syringe and lactic acid from Get Er Brewed. £6 next day delivery across Ireland.
They also do a custom grain kit where you can pre save a custom grain amount of what you need and get the exact amounts sent to you. Order the roasted barley separate though as I learned the hard way that they pack all the grains together so I have to mash them all together and my brew is a bit more roasted than it should be
@lockys06 game changer as in even more like Guinness. I am actually brewing it again tomorrow. My first brew in a long time as I was building my new bar . Finally finished it today will stick a video up later
Hi great channel you got, great tips thanks, quick question for you if you could help me out, the line from the beer out post to Guinness tap how important is the length? When I use CO2 for regular beer I need over a better long to reduce foaming, I've got 75/25 Guinness gas ready to set up, just curious about beer line length, I've read 30/35 psi is a good serving pressure. Cheers
I've only attempted one Guinness clone, and it came out delicious but tasted overly roasted and intense, exactly like a Guinness Extra Stout. How did yours compare in terms of lightness?
I have done so many now always chasing the perfect pint . The electric brewery stout I did is very good well worth brew . When you say lightness do you mean heavy to drink ?
@@grahamlawlorshomebrewrevie8227 lightness in terms of taste. Guinness is quite a mild, smooth taste and the "clone" I attempted had flavors that were too bold, I guess you could say heavy.
@colin_g I no what you mean now pal some people say Guinness is to heavy as in they can only drink 3 and they are full . But flavour wise it wasn’t to heavy a nice brew . The brew I did a pint of plain was very light in flavor in fact probably to light as you could drink way to much of it easily cheers 🍻
If it helps, I am not using a nitrogen regulator, I use a CO2 regulator with a coupling to connect the nitrogen tube. Do you use a regulator for nitrogen?
Alright mate yes I carbonate the same way . If you are using the force carbonation method look at my video on force carbonation and go to the comments. I have put up more tips and tricks in them comments that I have found work better . Hope that helps if no feel free to ask . Also are you using a stout nozzle for the stouts as you need it for cascading . Cheers 🍻
Good afternoon, I wanted to know how you use nitrogen, I know you use a 75/25 mixture of co2 + nitrogen. My question is if you do it the same way as carbonating any other beer. I don't speak English, I'm using Google Translate. How can I contact you to ask you a couple more questions? I'm failing at the cascade when pouring the nitrogenated stout.
Lovely! I have Guinness on tap in my man cave. It pours great but my lacing stinks. Any suggestions on how you clean your glassware? I’ve tried EVERYTHING and no schtick! 😡
Alright mate . The good stick for me is a nice clean dry glass I only wash my glasses with hot water and a brush they drip dry or I dry them with kitchen towel . It’s very rare I do g get good stick . Don’t use and washing up liquid as it leaves a film on the glass and so t get any stick . Hope that helps cheers 🍻
Alright mate I actually don’t do secondary anymore. I leave it in the fermenter ontill fermentation is done . Then I move to my cold crashing fridge and leave it there for 3 weeks . Then transfer to my kegs and force carbonate and serve. Hope that helps cheers 🍻
Hi Philip I am delighted you are loving the videos . The closest caned kits to Guinness for me would be shamrock velvet stout or youngs stout . Both close to Guinness and easy to make . I have videos there . But coopers irish stout is a nice drop aswell from a kit . But has it own flavour. When making use spray malt instead of sugar give it a nicer mouthfeel and more body . I have videos there of them brews cheers 🍻
Thank mate I've got coopers irish stout an I never use sugar all ways brew enhancer would you add any hops to it I use a dark liquid malt an safale 04 English style yeast does that sound OK cheers mate nice to hear from you happy brewing.
To be honest no I am always trying to get the perfect Guinness clone . I will get there someday ontill then I will have to keep brewing and drinking cheers 🍻
Alright Dan it’s getting there I hurt my back unfortunately so has stopped for the moment but hopefully have it complete in a few weeks . I have done a good few pictures so will put a slide show together when I get it done . But as you no a bar will never be done always bits to add 😂 cheers 🍻
@@grahamlawlorshomebrewrevie8227 Definitely! Hope you recover with your back and don't rush it. Back pain can be horrible n last a long time. Finishing the house I nearly cut the end of my finger off with a circle saw. Hospital, stitches then back to work. Week layer it was all heavily infected, ended up off work for 2 weeks 😱 So look after your self first Buddy 👍 Looking forward to seeing some results tho. Cheers 🍻
Was staring at my fermenter this morning wondering how i was going to get a sample from it and then found this. Thanks Graham! Great tip! Nice to see videos from another irish home brewer. Fair play. You saved me making an awful mess of the kitchen today.
Sorry only seen your message now I never control my brews always at room temperature for stouts and my beers and ipa are at room aswell but in my fermzilla under pressure so temperature doesn’t matter as much . Cheers 🍻
Cheers for the comment but the water is hot to the hand but not enough to burn me nor the pipes . Pipes are good for 70 degrees so all good no where near that coming out cheers 🍻
Hey Graham, great honest review again. How long do you let your brews rest for before you start to drink it? Have you ever had an upset stomach from drinkimg a brew too early
Alright Kevin . Thanks I always try give an honest review no point lying 🤥. I usually wate a min of 3 weeks but sometimes might keg a few ltrs just to test . No not that I can remember upset stomach. But I have had some that might give me plenty of wind 🌬️ 😂. Cheers 🍻
Look forward to seeing that graham. Ive recently moved house so ive no bar now 😕 I won't get round to building one until next year unfortunately. Don't know if you would be able to show from start to finish as you build it. Keep them coming 👍
I am half way threw my build but I will put a video together of pictures and then a video of the finished bar . The year won’t be long going g hopefully you get your new bar sorted
I am build a new bar in a smaller location in my house. I am give my big room to my daughters . No pool table in the new one but still big enough for my darts league . Going g to use some parts the counter top and mirrors, tap but the shape and style will be different. Going to make panel’s around d the bar like a traditional Irish pub big very nice hopefully
Hi Graham, I've just brewed this and it seems to have come out lighter than I was expecting in the trial jar. Is it definitely 40g of Carafa Special III and not more??
FYI Kegged this on today, tried another 40g of Carafa III to darken up the beer, but had to do another 100g on top of this to get closer to the right colour, so ended up using 180g in total. Don't know if I'm missing something in my original mash process, but keen to condition this and give it a try now 🍺
I just checked it mate and the recipe is correct . If funny doe as a few others have brewed it now and the results seem to differ in colour . As you can see mine in the video it’s a perfect colour
I have a carbonation video on my channel plus loads of tips I gave others in the comments of that video. I can also help you to re juice the carbonation even after your have carbonated it if you need help
Cheers mark . I wash with only hot water staring from the tap drip dry for most part then finish with kitchen towel . Defo no washing up liquid or soaps as it leave a film on the glass . I also use a glass washing brush . Do t no if any of that helps Mark
Ok I've always used washing up liquid..... I've got a glass washer brush that does a great job on cleaning. It must be the washing liquid as you say leaving a coating on the inside of the glass. Thanks for your help and advice 👍 Keep them coming graham !!
Looks great! Did you end up adding the lactic acid the recipe calls for? And how would you compare it to the pint of plain recipe you posted a few months ago?
Cheers mate no I didn’t actually and i was have a few with a friend of mine last nt and both agreed it didn’t need anything extra we both where happy with it . Comparing it to the pint of plain this one has a bit more to it in there of flavor. But would happily brew both again . Brew day tomorrow another Guinness clone cheers 🍻
Another great video, Graham. I really want to try this recipe, but I'm still trying to figure out the best way to step mash it. With my system now, it's not really possible unless I go the decoction route. And then, accurate temps would probably be a challenge. I really need to build a recirculating mash tun with a heating element powered through a PID controller and then just add a pump. (I've always wanted to do that anyway) When I add all the prices together, it may actually be cheaper to buy a used electric system and just use it as a mash tun. LOL (I really like the speed of my propane burner) Anyway, Cheers!!! 🍻🍻 Love the channel!
Cheers Max glad you love my channel, personally I would just buy a system take the heart ship out of it . Fairly cheap and this is definitely worth a brew unfortunately it’s all gone now drank the last of it last nt . Brew day tomorrow another Guinness clone cheers 🍻
