Amazing effort and all but it feels like a large chunk of this video is less giving retrospective thoughts and more like reading through a personal guided playthrough. Also, though you call Jason Bright's plan the "dumbest plan in FNV", he and his ghouls come back in one ending where they help evacuate the people of Novac.
one of my favorite details with the “origins” is that each character origin exists in the story/lore. but they all meet their fate except for the origin you choose due to Duncans intervention. -The Dwarf noble brother was convicted and killed in the deep roads -Dwarf commoner dies in his cell -Human noble stays to die along side their family -Dalish elf is never rescued and dies trying to fix the eluvien -city elf is either taken by the noble or enslaved -All mages are either made tranquil or killed by the templars lore still recognizes these characters as existing (especially the dwarf noble).
1:19:47 I actually appreciate this system way more than stuff from NV. It both feels more realistic (all your actions have consequence, whether good or ill) and it says more about the player. Do you do the good option even though there is less of reward and there is no real consequence for doing the bad option?
Thank you for being brave enough to face the masses and talk about the flaws with Joshua, and Honest Hearts' story writing as a whole. Most people I find aren't able to articulate the difference between a character being _written well_ and a character's performance being engaging or moving, something I feel sums up Joshua pretty well.
I never understood why Cappy locked this to the WiiU. I swear if they could, a mainline MH would have been released on the NGage or something. At least I was able to finally play it on the 3DS, but you know... it's the 3DS.
as someone who played FNV for the first time in 2024 I was definitely not impressed by my 3080ti / i9 system barely being able to squeeze out 80fps in a decade old game. luckily the mods do resolve this to a certain extent but out of the box it's def a frustrating experience.
4:01:50 Holy shit you unearthed some memories here, well, story time. Over a decade ago, a guy I knew in a Facebook group took pity on my teenage moneyless ass and gifted me Fallout 3 GOTY Edition on Steam, he told me "if you get ALL THE ACHIEVEMENTS in this game, I'll give you New Vegas". So there I went, playing Fallout 3 and having a grand old time, until I got to The Pitt, cause I HATE collectables, I HATE collection quests, I can't stand collect-a-thons, and there's a achievement on The Pitt for collecting 100 Steel Ingots and I hated every single second of it. The best part is, I did all this when Games for Windows Live was still a thing, so now I lost all of my achievements. At least I got New Vegas.
3:51:00 SMALL CORRECTION! If you spike the purified water with the modified FEV, there are differences, NPCs will complain about it, calling it poison or something, and, since both of your parents are wastelanders, drinking it will give you permanent debuffs, and if you drink four time, it will kill you dead on the spot, it's pretty cool how they actually showed the consequences of your actions. As a bonus, there's this easy to miss quest with a crazy old lady who irradiates water to give to random passerby's (thinking that radiation is sacred or something), and if you give her the spiked Aqua Pura, it won't have harmful effects (since the radiation will have neutralized the virus).
One of my favorite playthroughs was staying neutral just long enough to get Mira, then went full on dark side, and corrupted everyone possible into becoming dark jedi. I love this game, buggy mess and all
4:34:30 I found your take on Tranquility Lane interesting to say the least. While I do agree that Fallout is purposely silly on multiple occasions, and 3 is not as well written as New Vegas (it was a game released in 2008 that was probably in development even before Oblivion launched, a lot of the "mature" games released for the 360 were pretty shallow, and Fallout 3 is no exception.) However, I do think that Bethesda was playing the horror of Tranquilo Lane straight, the way the music sounds off and constantly loops, the grainy filter and monochromatic colors always made me uncomfortable, and the whole idea of the simulation is simply horrific, being at the mercy of a all powerful sadistic individual, the "comedy" elements are supposed to highlight Braun's psychopathy (the whole thing is based off that classic Twilight Zone episode after all, Braun, despite being a genius is a man child with no regards for others), not an attempt at dark comedy like say, the orc in the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion who's bragging about killing a little girl.
In regards to the Sphinx Quest that asks you to bring the person who loves you most, you can just put a pawn on the pedestal. Idk if that's the case if you actually gift things to npcs but I used a pawn I had just summoned and it worked. Also if you're not able to find the token within 7 days you just fail that riddle and can't open its chest. She'll fly to the next location and you can continue doing riddles.
Rise is what got me into the series. I went back and played world and was surprised how different it felt. Everything is shinier, the monsters are cooler and actually having to track the monsters is cool (to an extent. I’ve found that the flies are inconsistent when finding the next footprint leading to a lot of meandering) but I do prefer rise’s movement, everything feels faster and more streamlined in that game
One of the many impressive things about New Vegas is that the "essential NPC" mechanic was virtually unused. Outside of a few robots that are able to take over Securitrons like Yes Man and Victor and children for legal reasons, no one is offered this protection. You can immediately gun down the leader of a faction the moment you meet them, permanently souring your relationship and failing a myriad of quests, and live with the consequences. This is in stark contrast to Bethesda entries that heavily rely on the essential flag as a crutch to linear quest design and virtually no consequences for the Todd Howard approved choices you're allowed to make. Ever since Oblivion it has gotten progressively more and more widespread to the point of ridiculousness in Starfield where random side quest characters are flagged as essential, yet Obsidian was able to design their game around the problem of getting locked out of completion without needing to rely on such a heavy handed approach.
really was curious about the dislike ratio, but after seeing that it might be because you made some nazis butthurt by saying prison labor is slave labor, based. instant sub
@@SuperRADLemon Thank you! I started playing Monster Hunter World recently and knew it was something from this series but I never bother to cook that steak so I didn't recognize this. I love that vocal at the end
In relation to the beginning of the video, Hbomberguy brings up a very good point about that. People who say they don't like politics in their stuff actually really like politics, they just don't like it when it's not THEIR politics
Obsidian knew this was probably their last, and only, chance to close the book on the world that a majority of the team created. And boy, did they deliver. Maybe that's why you play as a courier. Edit: If you're incredibly curious about cut content or unanswered questions about the world of Fallout, like what the Vault experiments were for, for example. The creator of the series, Tim Cain, is on RU-vid and adores discussing it all!
In defense of Archer it can do good damage. My pawn is a maxed out archer and not using the bow dropped from the Chimera saved from a Cyclops and one shot it.
With talos on my first playthrough I was a magik archer and I kept using the ultimate draining my health not knowing he still has to keep going before the “fight” ends after hitting all his weak points. I don’t know how many times I quit out after using all my wake stones not understanding what I was supposed to do lol
I know im late but gun lance its the only weapon in mhw and with the dlc that can literally one shot nearly all monsters including fatalis, ruiner nergigante and alatreon, the only ones that cant be one shoted are kulve taroth, zorah, xeno jiiva, safi jiiva and sarah ishvalda so its the most powerfull weapon in mhw if you know what you are doing, if not i agree even if i am a gun lance main that the weapon isnt as powerfull as other options out there
Pawns can also learn shortcut routes from players who explore maps without always following the road all the time. Pawns with max boss monster medal will deal tremendous damage and can even solo a boss with ease. A pawn with max medal on certain bosses will also share you their experience traversing other worls wherein they would say that they carried the other arisen on their journey.
