I wonder if this came out before the covid era would it actually be cheaper than what they gonna charge for this. Cause the whole world jumped on the covid excuse and raised everything to prices where everyone is struggling these days. I know that companies lost employees due to covid deaths etc. and manufacturing slowed down on things but damn, people can't even afford a turkey meal for turkey day yet they want us to drop $500 plus on fpv systems. I remember when a good stack was under $90 before covid.

i feel you. i started in 2013 and stopped after 2017 until now. just ordered the 1s walksnail and vrx for a toothpick. micros and digital is bringing me back. jump back in!

@@kiddfpv Yeah, I still have my first mini h-quad and my Dominator V1's. i don't think i could sell them! my first build was a TBS discovery in 2013 and I found out about mini quads shortly after. FPV was a whole different game back then. we're spoiled now! :)

@@kiddfpv I have still all mines. I sell sometimes a few of them, but still remember making a "homemade" headset with the first english "FPV box" and mounted it on a worker helmet (for better balance otherwise it was very heavy on the nose) with lots of hot glue and put black tissue around to remove light. I went to the first FPV race in the country and was interviewed on TV with it (5 secs of glory and ridicule at the same time)

Good notes! What size quads are you using them in? Curious how everyone is building on this system.

@@JonE5FPV I installed one into a 3" freestyle quad. One in a long range wing, and another will most likely go into a 5" racer / freestyler. Personally I don't feel the latency at all, so I feel quite comfortable racing with it.

Could you explain more about "Unique(broadcast)"? Do DJI and Walksnail's VTX stream only available for one VRX?

@@human890209yang HDZero is latency oriented. So it has the best latency of pretty much any FPV system, but when you start losing signal, you really start losing signal.

@@BOTGRINDER that's the most important part for me. I was absolutely against this system in the beginning, but their actions changed it quite a lot.

When the half price SharkByte modules were about, that was the cheapest entry into digital.... I bought into the hdzero system for just £160[ish]... Half price module, vtx and camera. And when other companies start designing and making their own hdzero vTX's we should see some more competitive price points.

And with these HDMI modules, you get a horrible video stutter every now and then due to the HDMI connection.... And this can add an effective latency of 100ms for a second or 2... Already made me crash bad with the hdzero module.

Very cool! I think the whoop board is probably the most compelling reason for this system. Similar image to DJI gen 1, but much smaller and lighter.

Dang! I wanted bonks adventure SOOOO Badly. But maybe its for the best i never got it. I did definitely get burned by Sega CD. I ALMOST cut that part out, because i didnt think anyone would know what i was talking about, but glad i left it in now.

What country/state? How long do you guys have to shut down for winter? Just curious how weather affects other parts of the world.

@@JonE5FPV neighbors to the north, Canada near Ottawa. Weather is mild now but I expect snow in the next weeks, time for tiny whoops so not going to commit to HD yet. I've been planning to go digital for years but can't bite the bullet and choice are just getting complicated. Was leaning towards hd zero but I love my goggles so Walksnail is intriguing but too late in the season. I'll let the dust settle until march/april when the snow finally melts and fingers thaw.

Good question, i do believe there is some latency in the HDMI port, but not sure how that will effect the overall feel, or if it is to small to cause a significant impact.

@@JonE5FPV this question keeps me from buying this setup. Even though it's a great deal. Now seeing you question the longevity or support for the system as a whole also gives me pause. I currently fly anolog mostly but also fly dji digital video feed. I like the slim factor of the WS vtx. It'll fit in some of my more cramped builds. Like the spec7 you recently highlighted.

Man, fatshark is so off the radar for a while now. THey have been on the do not buy list for me for over a year. HDO v1 is still best value on the used market, but new goggle buyers really only had to decide between skyzone and orqa for a while, but that will all change very soon with so many new products coming out.

@@JonE5FPV Not a fan of Fatshark myself, seems they dug their own grave to me. I find it both impressive and ironic that the HDZero goggles will be the ones to beat, considering Carl didn't intend on getting into the goggle business to begin with 🤣. I have a whole lot of admiration for Carl.

@@torpedoLaw Have you actually flown with HDZero? Unfortunately lot of people judge HDZero video quality based on the DVR recordings uploaded to RU-vid, which aren't great for sure. I fly analog, DJI and HDZero, I would say that DJI beats out HDZero for video quality overall, but not by a lot when observed through the goggles. Both are significantly better than analog. The new HDZero camera's and goggles coming out will close some of that gap for sure. HDZero's low latency beats DJI, in terms of feeling really connected to the quad. Each tech has a place for sure IMO.

The latency of the 3 digital FPV systems is highly over hyped! It's not that big of a difference! See Chris Rosser's actual testing. That's why all the most knowledgeable reviewers tell us to buy HDZero if you are heavily into competitive racing - It's the only way you'll really, truly see a benefit of the slightly lower latency. Course you have to be happy with the same ole snow, fuzz, image distortion, and rainbow full screen image blackout...all but the Rainbow is just like analog, hence HDZero's nickname of ANALOG2. Same as analog only sharper.

I think that will end up a pretty popular combo as well.

hard to say, it is a gamble for sure if they survive in the long run, the deal is definitely very nice price.

But, even if they don't end up surviving - which IMO it's way too early to predict....You'll still be able to fly all the quads you build WalkSnail into. Those will fly until they die. If you end up getting 5 or 6 quads in all sorts of sizes that YOU want, and let's say you protect yourself and have a couple of Walksnail VTX's in back stock in case you have one or two die - You still have flying FPV to your hearts content for as many years as the VTX's and cameras last. Could be years!! With DJI, and their incredible life and durability of the Caddx Vista, that could be over a decade! Way longer than you'll probably last after the next latest, greatest FPV innovation comes around to make you jump and go for it! My point is, it doesn't matter what happens to the company if you have enough drones and VTX's to keep you going for years! 🤔👍

@@JonE5FPV one thing you haven't mentioned is the on board recording capability, it's not GoPro footage, but with Remote ID coming up, a way to stay under 250gr by not needing to carry an action camera

Yup, HDZero's only competitor that gives that SHITTY of image quality is analog. That's why "ANALOG2" is such a terrible VALUE FOR YOUR DOLLAR, because for $599 for their new goggles, the ONLY thing you get over plain ole analog, is a sharper picture. It has the same latency, it has the same snow, same fuzz, same or slight worse penetration of objects, but oh!, you do gain something else - The wonderful Rainbow screen of nothing! The vertical Rainbow full screen image right before you crash or do a Hail Mary punch out to try to get your signal back! $599 gets you ALMOST NOTHING over plain ole analog! BUT, on the other hand, this $200 or more gets you Walksnails near crystal clear image quality - far and above the image quality of ANALOG2 (HDZero) with awesome clarity, resolution to fly in a thick woods of trees and bushes, great penetration of objects - night and day vs, ANALOG2, and superb range. A superb value for your dollar because the improvements are easily seen in your image quality, etc. You get a whole lot of improvements for your buck! Same with the $429 V2 goggles from DJI - the best image quality FPV has ever seen, etc, etc, etc. An awesome value for your buck - so much improvement in EVERYTHING over analog....and ANALOG2. We need to face facts - Buying HDZero gives you better sharpness and not much else! For $599 - that's not a good value for your dollars spent! It's actually one of the worst value to dollar ratios in FPV!!! Barely any improvement for 6 large bills! 💰💰💰💸💸💸

I flew back to back a lot analog builds and hdzero isnt only analog 2.0. If you wonna fly Freestyle, go for dji or fatsnail. If you wonna racing and looking for Lowest possible latency, go for hdz.

True, but even 25% support from DJI, still consistently outperforms 100% support from smaller companies like caddx. The R&D and manufacturing budgets are so powerful.

@@wattage2007 I've been flying it since Fatshark reduced all their modules to half price, nearly a year, a year?... I heard people get it to varying degrees, guess I must just have a particularly dodge HDMI chip in my 03O's and or sharkbyte module... Guess the walksnail HDMI connection might be OK, but, the HDMI connection will add latency to a system that can already have poor latency in certain situations.

@@sylvanlight120 Strange. Never had any glitches on HDZero RX into cheap Eachine EV300D goggles. When it comes to flying with Walksnail, I’m hoping the latency won’t be a problem for me since I’m a long range fixed winger, not a quad racer.

@@wattage2007 FC fixed wings or servos?... If its servos I'd want the least latency possible.
