I live in Thailand, I own a 2018 Ranger. (Diesel) Ranger is beating everything on the market. I had a Toyota & Isuzu but they couldn't hold a candle to the Ranger.

@TugHillGuy
@TugHillGuy 5 лет назад
The Ridgeline may suit a lot of users who don't need to do heavy-duty truck things with their vehicles. If you drive down a rutted jeep trail with a heavy payload of firewood, for instance, it's questionable what that would do to a frameless Ridgeline. I could picture the cab breaking away from the bed!

I’ve been to these events while I sold John deer tractors. They set up obstacles that will show off the strengths of the ranger and not the weaknesses. And my 96 Tacoma is still going strong 350,000 miles original engine and transmission. Let’s see this ford do that.

The Ranger has start-n-stop technology that stops the engine when the truck comes to a stop, and restarts when you hit the gas, which can save a lot of fuel in heavy city traffic.

I have the same issue with the Silverado. Backing into a parking spot is easier than pulling in. The turning radius is terrible on the full size trucks. Oh, by the way, don't buy a Chevy truck. I've had nothing but trouble with mine. Everything from fuel injectors, to pumps, to leaks in the seals. All within 40,000 miles. Way to go Chevy. Adding another issue. Today driving home from Philadelphia my engine light started flashing. I guess it's to my family mechanic since the warranty is over.

I was going to get a Ranger until I did some research and pricing. You mentioned the Ranger has the 2.3 liter, 4 cylinder 10 speed Ecoboost as standard on all models. It is the only engine and power train available. The Chevy Colorado offers 3 engine choices including a diesel. I do not want a 4 cylinder that claims to make the same power and torque as a 6 cylinder. Also there is not an option for an integrated trailer brake, which I wanted, on the Ranger . The Colorado had all the options I wanted and cost less than a Ranger. I ended buying a 2018 Chevy Colorado Z71 crew cab short box 4x4, with the V-6 and 8 speed automatic transmission, heavy duty trailering package rated for 7,000 lbs with integrated trailer brake, and Bose 7 speaker sound system. With incentives and dealer discounts I paid $32,347. This would be very similar to the Ranger FX4 you tested. The Colorado in your video looked like a bare bones base model. This would not be a fair comparison to the Ranger FX4. Also since you do not have any zero to sixty times I will share that there are many internet postings of the Colorado, with the LT-V6, doing 0-60 in 6.1 seconds. To each their own but I wanted the most truck for the money, that would fit in my garage, with the features I need and for me that turned out to be a Chevy Colorado.
@ben9895

what is one problem with the video in the comparison test in the vehicles you drove the Colorado is not a Z71 and you're comparing it to an FX4 package that's not apples to apples

Ford has had lots of head gasket issues with there turbos Just goggle Focus rs. They are so missing the mark here. Lots of former Ranger owners looking for a dependable small 4x4 truck with 6foot bed. In a price range of not more than 30 grand and would prefer 27. The Toyota can be had in that Range which is why I will reluctantly buy a Tacoma this spring. I put over 300 thousand miles on my 96 Ranger and worked it to death hauling stone and sand for work. The reason they stopped making the ranger is because you could by a F-150 for the same price (or less). They are making the same mistake again...
@smarticus6384
@smarticus6384 5 лет назад
I don't think it's a mistake at all. Ford thought that if the price and mileage were close to the full-size then midsize buyers would move on over to full-size. However the truth was much different then the prediction as most midsize buyers simply found other midsize trucks to buy. Of course even though F-150 sales continues to be hot and market leading, it turns out people who wanted midsize trucks still want midsize trucks. So just like GM had discovered, the midsize market is doing very well and no reason to believe that Ford won't do well.

The Ranger will succeed or fail based on 'value per dollar'. And a $45k+ version compared to a comparably (or better) equipped F150 will likely fail that test. Now a $25k+ version may score big with consumers. Most Rangers sold will never go off road. That's reality. The rear floor 'not' being flat when the seats are folded, and the center console being small, are both swing and misses by Ford. I like the idea of the Ranger 'if' a nicely equipped 4x4 version can be scored for less than $35k. Short of that, I'll be buying another 1/2 ton truck next year.
@glenm2229
@glenm2229 5 лет назад
If you want lots of storage space, why don't you drive a van? You can have rear seats up and flat storage at the same time. Greater payload in a van, and with the same trim level it costs less. On your "value per dollar" scale, the F150 should fail the and Transit sales should boom. Maybe that's not what motivates buyers after all.
@adamton7274
@adamton7274 5 лет назад
I agree with Mike Glen. The reason mid size domestic trucks were discontinued is they competed to closely in price with their bigger brothers. Owning a half ton I wish it were more manageable around town but I'm not spending 45k on a midsized truck with a max tow of 7500 with a small box...
@Mike-In-O-Town
@Mike-In-O-Town 5 лет назад
@@adamton7274 But I think there's more to the 'past' pricing angle, which I do agree with you on. Past Rangers and F150's were priced such that the gap between them closed. The price of gas also went down during those years making people less sensitive to lesser fuel economy numbers. But today, with $50k+ half ton trucks being virtually the norm, there's plenty of pricing head room in there for OEM's to bring out mid-sized trucks in the $25k - $30k range that would likely sell in huge numbers. I've not personally seen or driven the new Ranger, so I can't comment on how good or bad a vehicle it is. What I do know, if Ford allows its pricing to trend into the mid $40k+'s for top end models, they'll throw a lot of cold water on Ranger sales given there are a number of more capable options available for not much more money. Personally, I'd like to see the Ranger succeed. My concern is that Ford up to this point has tripped all over itself with the re-introduction, and the damn truck isn't even on dealer lots to be evaluated yet.
@adamton7274
@adamton7274 5 лет назад
Mike it will be interesting to see how they sell. .. The new Rangers mpg numbers leaked it's 23 combined... I think that was the 2wd. It's a number hardly getting excited about. I really feel like the only angle for these midsized trucks sell on is a more daily drivable truck and depending where you live this may not be an issue. With full size it seems any shrewd negotiator can get 10k off sticker I wonder how much profit is baked into this Ranger. Either way glad to have some competition lets hope we see a reduction in all truck prices soon... But my guess is it won't happen until the next recession.
@Mike-In-O-Town
@Mike-In-O-Town 5 лет назад
@@adamton7274 The only thing that might knock truck prices down would be a huge increase in gas prices, and I just don't see that on the horizon right now. Like I noted earlier, I drive an older F150 daily and like the truck. But a Ranger, given its overall size and my diminishing needs for a full sized truck, looks interesting given the amount of urban driving (and parking) I do weekly. However, if I can score a 2019 RAM 1500 Laramie edition for about the same amount of money as a fully equipped Ranger (which I can here in Central Florida given RAM pricing and current rebates/incentives), there is little reason to consider the Ranger given the RAM is a far more capable truck. But if I could acquire that same fully equipped Ranger for say $35k, that would make me stop and re-think my truck buying decision. It really depends how many Rangers Ford wants to sell. Price them right (assuming they're a good vehicle) and they'll likely sell very well. Price the upper end of their price range at $45k+ and some will sell, but not in overall volumes that will make the Ranger a segment leader.

We had these in australia for years surprised only recently usa has them... that would be a ranger wildtrack (gold one) here, dont really like the model name there or the stickers, was hoping they would make it better there but i guess not. lol do they get the raptor also or just that model.?? they have no rear bars or any accessories too. looks kindda cheap

I like it I want one. I am glad that it is bigger . The old one was a little to small. I had 4 rangers but I can tell you I use a truck for work and the Chevy S10 had less problems then the Ranger. I had a S10 chevy with over 250 thousand miles and the only thing I did to it was change oil and replace brakes and tires. Never had a AC failure or nothing. But it did lack power on the V6. I have 3 ford vehicles now 2014 and a 2018 and all 3 have backup camera problems. You would think something so easy that they could get it to work properly. Ford puts 6 dollar sensors where they are not serviceable and cost thousands of dollars to replace like a AC temp sensor . Ford are high maintenance and that is the down side of ford.

I'm not terribly happy with the limited standard options on the Ranger. I think Ford missed the mark on this one. I'm in the market so I'm comparing and right now the Z71 has more bang for the buck. Then again I'm not making my mind up until I can actually test drive one and the final numbers are out.

kinda hard to make a claim that the ranger has the "best in class" tourque when it goes up against a duramax diesel engine.
@ElectronicsForFun
@ElectronicsForFun 5 лет назад
but it's a baby duramax. we're not talking about a black smoke breathing turbo charged V8 here, we're talking about a little 4 banger economy motor. the ranger is rated for an extra 500 pounds of towing capacity.

7500 pounds is not best in class towing. The diesel canyon is rated for 7,600-7,700 depending on 4x4 and will do it with ease compared to this thing. Peak torque at 2000 rpm vs 3000...
@ericham4945
@ericham4945 5 лет назад
Stuarrt Bailey The diesel Chevrolet Canyon is in a diesel class. Also, the Ranger has a 10 speed transmission as apposed to 6 speed, so I think it will tow 7500 lbs easier than you think.
@stuarrt82
@stuarrt82 5 лет назад
@@ericham4945 I didn't know a different engine option changed the vehicle class. That sort of makes "best in class" meaningless. But there's no way it competes with the baby duramax towing. It's missing torque and it has to rev to get what it has.
