Austin Butler nailed Elvis...if Rami could win for Freddie....Austin did much more than Rami....the voice, the moves, the essence and spirit of Elvis....he was astonishing. He didn't do an impersonation of Elvis. Nor, a caricature of him. He caught his humanity. I love Brendan, but. Austin more than deserves an Oscar. The whole internet is buzzing about him

I think Austin deserves the Oscar. He didn't play Elvis he embodied him. The performance was way beyond what I could have expected. For Denzel Washington to give his seal of approval on Austin speaks volumes. I am hoping the Oscar's get it right. My only dear is the fact Ramni winning it for playing Freddie Mercury might stop them from giving it to him even tho he deserves it.

@@doenerkiing5117 Austin worked two, long, hard years to try and achieve the essence that was Elvis. 24/7. I was very reluctant, because no one can pull Elvis off. There's just never been anyone quite like him. Austin did it. Most people have gone back to see this movie countless times. It draws you back. It moves so quickly, the other screenings get better and better at seeing everything.

I need to comment in this catalog Austin Butler SHOULD WIN hands down no he's not a jet pilot again he is a supremely incredible actor embodying the ' "the most famous man on the planet" Elvis Presley Austin was destined to play Elvis 3years of his life was put into studying everything Elvis the WORLD is anticipating Austin winning the Oscar for the magnificent performance he did as Elvis Remember Elvis"s Aloha from Hawaii was watched by 1.5 BILLION people one night! 1 out of every 3 poeple in the world watched this special what does it matter Austin doesnt have "the back catalog" ? HE is INCREDIBLE!!! EVERYONE I know has seen ELVIS multiple times unheard of!! myself included I have never seen a movie in the theater and I AM A THEATER GOER! more than once this movie I"ve seen this movie SEVERAL TIMES!! ELVIS AND AUSTIN BUTLER have brought hoards of people back to the theater! this movie will be epic it will be remembered forver as the BEST PORTRAYAL OF ELVIS PRESLEY Maybe its me but a super hyped up revisited jet pilot cannot in any way compare what Austin has done 3 yrs of his life devoted to this role away from family and friends.. Like his auition was different from all other actors so natural and such feeling is what got Baz Luhrmans attention as well as Denzel Washington's call to Baz absolutely recommending Austin to be his Elvis. this wasnt spectacular special effects THIS WAS SPECTACULAR ACTING from the 1st minute to the last! changing not only looks but voice changes of Elvis over a period of 20 years! COME ON GUYS it doesnt matter how young Austin is REMEMBER PATTI DUKE IN THE MIRACLE WORKER ? what difference does age make when the talent is there! dont get me wrong I really liked Top Gun ONCE!!!I I'm sure Brendan Fraser is fantastik in Whale but AUSTIN BUTLER KNOCKED THIS OUT OF THE PARK! IN know regular!! people who have seen ELVIS 7 10 36 and 41 times! MIND BOGGLING! I"m ready and so are MANY of so are many of my friends to see it AGAIN in the theater when the theaters feature Oscar nominated pictures again I CANT WAIT!! ELVIS is a theater movie! friends like me who have HBOMAX also went to the theater THEN came home and watched it on TV Cruise was smart to just leave it in the theater so you COULDNT watch it at home!! SMART!! STILL no comparrison to Austin Butler's ELVIS check out the thought around the world right now ! literally AROUND THE WORLD1 ITS TIME GUYS!

There's no actor in the movies this year, or maybe ever, who worked so hard as Austin Butler did, for two years, living , breathing and consuming all that was Elvis., down to the graceful movement of his hands. Denzel called Baz and told him he had worked with him and he had the best work ethic he had seen. That helped Baz along in making his decision among all of those who were trying out for the part. Though Baz says he had already pretty much decided. Austin took away part of his life to capture this role of the hardest man there is, Elvis Presley, to try and get the essence of him properly. I went in not believing he could do it. He did. He deserves an Oscar if ever anyone did.

Absolutely Austin Butler should be considered. I’ve heard from many people that they forgot they were actually watching an actor, and I for one, pretty much forgot what Elvis looked like until Unchained Melody. It’s sad that Rami Malek won, and he didn’t sing anything in his movie, whereas, Austin sang all of the early Elvis, and his voice was combined with Elvis for the remaining songs, except Unchained Melody. !

Austin has been acting almost 20 years. He's a veteran, you can tell by his acting level. Nothing throws him. Brendan Fraser as best actor in a fat suit over Austin becoming elvis in every way, is ludicrous. My gosh I dont want to see a movie about a huge fat man. No one has even seen the whale. It all seems very political.

I want Austin Butler to win over Brendan Fraser. Austin's job was much more difficult than Fraser's because Elvis is the most impersonated person of all time, yet Elvis didn't feel like an impersonation because Austin transcended the role. In my opinion, the Whale was not a great film and not many people saw it. Brendan is wearing a fat suit which does a lot of the work for him.

@JohnJungKook That's like saying that Gary Oldman only won Best Actor of 2018 because wore a fat suit for his portrayal of Winston Churchill. Cosmetics and prosthetics aren't a fix or cheat, they're an accessory to enhance an actor's performance. In addition, Brendan was more methodical about this role as he gained weight to support it.

I'm with Scott and his Top Gun Maverick love - I'm curious to see if last year's presumed weariness of heavy movies (based on CODA performance) carries into this year's awards. It could see TG Maverick maybe exceeding nomination/winning predictions. Scott and I seem to be in the same age range (Gen X) and TG Maverick did an incredible job of pushing all of the right buttons with me also. I've rewatched it more times than I admit and Cruise sells the hell out of that performance. The character and performance really tap into what Maverick might have been like 30+ years later showing the scars of life.

Great show as usual! The Will Smith topic is sensitive, specially in the US, but I think over time he will be forgiven. He needs to give his all in this campaign and show remorse (maybe go to Oprah?) and then people may be able to move on and nominate him. When it comes to separating the art from the artist, it's not easy, and I think it depends on the person and what they did. I haven't seen any Polanski film since Carnage because of his past, I don't feel comfortable watching his movies. But Woody Allen always comes up in these conversations and I think it's unfair. He was never convicted for any crime, he has worked for 50 years in Hollywood and not one single person has ever complained about him, but I think in the US, giving him the benefit of the doubt makes you look bad so you have to follow the wave of reject. I love his movies and will continue to watch them. Love that you're pushing for Cruise in Lead Actor Scott! It was so nice to see you at Sitges Film Festival and talk about the Oscars with you. I didn't tell you, but I have a RU-vid channel where I analyse the awards season, and For Your Consideration inspires me to keep going and do better content every week.

I don’t see the Academy giving Will Smith the nomination, how can they celebrate a man who disrespected the stage. He’ll get a Golden Globe, he can go for the BAFTA, but the Academy would look silly banning Will Smith from the ceremony for assaulting a person on stage, and then a year later showing clips of his performance and clapping all night for him. BUT…as Jeff Sneider said, nothing is unforgivable in Hollywood, and that’s why average people can’t stand Hollywood.

I have seen DJs young DJs who have seen the movie and are now huge Elvis fans Tom Cruise in Top Gun is Tom Cruise any movie dont really amazing outstanding rivetting acting Ausin Butler on the other hand as Denzel Washington has said is an actor with work ethics like no other so true that he actually called Baz Luhrman to recommend Austin telling him this is the person you want, he'd worked with Denzel in THE ICE MAN COMETH and completely astonished him. Austin's acting is like NO OTHER! THE ELVIS MOVIE has moved people of ALL AGES world wide. they say Fraser should win especially because he;s been around longer thats ridiculous! what does that matter when Butler's acting is so superb? I'm sure he's great in Whale but I believe he should be #2 Butler's speaking voice his mannerisms his hand movements plus his actually singing voice the changes he had to go thru and capture it all terriically is SO FAR ABOVE A JET FIGHTER PILOT NO CHANGES THERE just something we've seen before sure hope you re review this movie NO ONE AND I MEAN NO ONE DESERVES IT M,ORE THAN AUSTIN!! Here are my thoughts on the video, which was an excellent discussion: 1. If Smith delivers a brilliant performance, he should without question be eligible/consider for Best Actor. As far as I can see, no charges were filed against him. Chris Rock suffered no injuries from the incident. The Academy banned him from the ceremony and events for the next 10 years (I doubt that will stand). There's no reason to punish him further. We shouldn't pretend that Smith is guilty of something equal to statuary rape or going anti-Semitic while drink. 2. Why aren't you guys talking about All Quiet on the Western Front and Decision to Leave? The Academy has been very favorable toward non-English language films and performances for at least the last five years. 3. For the last 11 seasons, the Best Actor winner was attached to a Best Picture nominee. The more I hear about The Whale, the less confident I am in getting a Best Picture nomination. I am actually thinking that Austin Butler has the best chance of winning it all and going to the Rami Malek route. 4. My early bird is Butler, Cruise, Farrell, Fraser, and Nighy.

That's happened a lot thus far this season on FYC -- with all three of us. And this is how it goes early in the season every single year. Either a movie has yet to be screened or we simply haven't had time to see everything yet. These predictions aren't wholly based on personal opinion, but rather on awards season buzz and where we suspect things to be heading. I’ve seen his dramatic work and it’s great but not Amazing. The word for Colin Farrell having no Oscar Noms is CRIMINAL. The Thing with Austin Butler’s performance is it’s way better than Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, that’s something you can only see if you watch the movie. Definitely Tom Cruise should get nominated, loved Top Gun Maverick, my favorite movie so far.

@@neilvarma I appreciate how much you defend Perri in these comments 😂. Fair enough she wasn’t able to see them.. tho see could see Tar which just came out but not Elvis which has been out since June is odd. (tar is a great movie btw) high recommend As for Jeff well.. I gotta say this might be the last chance to celebrate great male performances, because very soon the new academy requirements will take hold. And as a studio just based on the laws of supply & demand it’s much easier to just throw support behind the films that fit the required demographic targets then to make one movie per group. & just knowing about human Nature most take the path of least resistance.. meaning expect the number of films with male leads that a studio gets behind or even makes to decrease. Because most awards movies don’t really turn a profit the point of them is the prestige . So it’s simply not worth making them if they can’t get the award anyway. So even if a mystic River for example was made it would fail to even meet the requirements needed to be nominated so a studio or prestige indie would have no reason to even greenlight it. films like Pig, Darkest hour, Dunkirk, 1917, The Godfather, Apocalypse now, The outlaw Josey wales, Hell or high water would all automatically not qualify for any awards. And thus won’t even be made. So I’d enjoy what you have before it’s gone

I can relate to what Will Smith did in a way but I feel strongly if this is a great performance he should be nominated for best actor. Scott, you mentioned three great examples with Roman Polanski, Mel Gibson, and Woody Allen. I don't think what Will Smith did was as bad as what they all did. Is that being said how long do you let what he did simmer before giving him another nomination? That's the question in this day and age. I for one can't wait to see Emancipation.

Either someone didn’t see the movies,or you talked about preformances that have no chance of a nomination, several films were not mentioned, and as usual the category itself was deemed weak.. And when u did talk about a actor it was basically just you three making fun of their work or talking about Will Smith about a movie none of you three have seen. Honestly very disappointed in this episode. 🙁. But hope the next one is back to your usual awesome standards

Love this show so much! Always look forward to your opinions and FYC is my most trusted Oscar source every season! With the question regarding rewarding Will Smith, I do feel like it will be too soon after the slap for Academy members to want to vote for him. Maybe in 10 years, sure. But with every nomination every season, there I a narrative surrounding the actor, the studio's campaign, and their role/performance. It will be interesting to see the campaign that Apple puts forth if they do for Will Smith to be considered for a nomination. Overall, Hollywood is reckoning with a near century history of extremely shady behaviour that is far, far worst than what was portrayed on screen at the Oscars during what should have been the biggest night of Smith's career. However, I do not think the Academy will be able to move past this moment that happened during the Oscar telecast even if his performance in Emancipation is excellent. I did see The Son at tiff. It was truly terrible and such a disappointment after The Father was so stellar. It will be a disservice to Hugh Jackman if he gets a nomination. A very generic and surface-level script that is so predictable. I cannot believe the person who wrote this also wrote The Father!!
