The league and the media have to do a better job of promoting the younger stars. General audiences and casual fans will never get behind the next generation if the league and media only talk about Lebron, Steph and KD all day.
The media can make stars if they want to… likeJa Morant, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Maxey, Jason Tatum, Kevin Booker. I don’t know why their names are not coming to me, but the two guys are Oklahoma City.😂😂😂….. to me that’s some of our core young players in the nba ……..prime example ESPN it going to push Kaitlyn and WNBA this summer just watch
this and the fact that the measurement of TV ratings that they talk about doesn’t account for international viewership. so lower domestic TV ratings could be unfortunate for the NBA in the short term bc of a smaller TV deal with turner and espn/disney, and therefore smaller contracts; but they could also strike massive tv deals overseas that would balance this out.
@@kengy1991 naturally, the American media wants to exalt an American born as the next ambassador and figurehead of the league but not may be the case. Anthony Edwards is a great player but the European superstars are simply better.
New York, Boston, Minnesota and Denver is the formula the rest of the NBA should follow. I enjoy watching their entire team not just an individual player.
Exactly. Nick and Shannon always want to talk about how Jordan had weaker competition because he didn’t play against super teams. But if you look closer he played against teams that played well together. Teams like Denver today.
@@teeletsetse445yall are crazy calling everyone who doesn’t love your favorite a hater lmao. How do you guys even enjoy sports, do you just clap everytime either team scores or what?
I don’t know what Rob G is talking about. By ‘92, magic, bird and Isaiah were after thoughts. Kobe, kg, dirk, and Duncan were shadows of their former selves by 2015. Change is inevitable.
There is a difference between owning the league and being the face of the league. Chris said Wemby will soon own the league and that Jokic is currently owning the league. That sentence may be/become true, but Jokic is not the face of the league even though he is owning the league.
I hope wemby will never be the face. Just like Jokic he is standing for a totally unexciting nba and I hate it. This dude is literally dunking while standing on the ground and then acting like he did a posterizing monster dunk. GTFO.
The answer is yes, a change is happening now. Just enjoy the young talent...we can start letting it go now. Luka, Giannis, Morant, Edwards, Shai, Brunson, Wemby and more...the old guard is over yo. And it's good for the league
All these leagues need to learn from the NFL. The key is to let the new markets get some shine so you aren’t just reliant on 2-3 teams for all your revenue
I agree. 90s had Dallas, San Francisco and Green Bay. 000s had New England, Indy, New Orleans and Baltimore. Not exactly BIG market teams. Now it's Kansas City Missouri, Buffalo and Cincinnati. This isn't New York or LA so I think it's good
We were seeing the changing of the guard when the Warriors won the 2022 championship because Steph had to play out of his mind to get it and the other members of the big 3 barely played a role. The Nuggets dominating in 2023 was the nail in the coffin for the old generation. The fans have known it for a while, the league and the media are just the last to find out because all they do is cover the old players and not the younger ones.
After i saw jokic playing the second round in 2023 i knew, it was over for the rest of the league, i think people who hate on jokic do not watch the game because he is the best player in nba by far, and he does have another gear in the play off when they need him. And the stat pading comment is crazy because i see game when he shoot like 12 times he actually takes what the defense give him as long as he wins i dint think he care about stats.
@@gsuandre5579all of the Jokic haters are eating their words and will probably continue to do so because this Nuggets team looks like a dynasty in the making
Exactly bro. I’m 28 I got to watch all these OG’s and I’m a huge curry fan. but this years playoffs is so intriguing because we are about to see some rising superstars on some big stages. And this is where the legends are made
@@vw2430 precise, it’s not like we rushing them out the door either it’s just that Father Time is doing his job. They can’t keep up with the young rising stars anymore.
Ja Morant and Brunson? They are being forced to be stars which neither one is. The NBA is turning into a joke. Any and Zion are not being promoted enough by the league and Adam Silver is horrible as a commissioner. Just saying
Man Rob G is terrible. Just because you guys haven’t talked about the transition from older to younger stars doesn’t mean it hasn’t been happening. It’s been happening for years now
@@candylk247 you missed the point. They may talk about the lakers but it’s all about how they can win the championship. No one ever talks about how the younger teams in the league are just better than them
I love the new guard in the NBA, I’m tired of the same players being the headliners. Players have more longevity now, so this generation is going to have to take it. This time it won’t be handed over slowly.
The biggest starts, many of whom are still among the best individual players in the league, are in their 30s. These guys have, at best, 5 years left. It's inevitability. Sadly, most of the young stars haven't stood out: Jokic, Embid, Luka, and Giannis are the exceptions. Tatum is too inconsistent. Ja is too much trouble. Zion is too injury prone and his star has faded and none of them feel like how we felt about Steph or LeBron at their peaks. Someone will get there, I'm sure but right now I think we cling to our old guys because the young guys haven't taken the torch yet.
Tatum has it all but the IT factor! So is like come on man Edward’s has that IT factor and his game is fun to watch, he has charisma. I think Edward’s will need to go to a different team at some point.
I disagree with home-boy. We are for the most part loving this new wave of stars. People all over the country are loving Ant, local bars all over the place love watching the Nuggets clean out Lebron and the Lakers. REAL TIME. RIGHT NOW... WE ARE READY FOR THESE GUYS 👇
@@Ackshuallymmmalot, hence him staying on your mind. You hate lebron but you can't stop talking about him. You love to hate him...making the game more interesting to you. Once he retires you'll realize you don't have much to talk about outside of LeBron James.
@@sameenergy9414 They said that in 1998 when a certain person retired.. cause what? The game moves on, bigger stars will come and replace your Lebrons and KDs. Deal with it.
The guard been changed. The media is 3-4 years late in recognizing (or admitting) it. Steph (for just one year in ‘22) is the only one of these three who’s seriously contended for a championship during the Joe Biden presidency.
That is absolutely ridiculous for Rob G to say. That is the mindset that needs to be beaten out of people who have it. Even if it means taking a step back its ultimately to take 2 steps forward. The NBA for too long has been about superstars more than the games. It is a mindset that has been conditioned to fans. They need to transition out of it. They need to focus on teams along players. There should be several faces of the league. The bottom line is without question the NBA needs to change its marketing strategy. It is behind the times and it is neglectful to the entire league outside the legacy franchises.
Agreed. I honestly think the new guard to potentially bring back the old school mentality that made the NBA what it once was, where the star players were loyal to their teams, and become championship caliber by slow building up. The league and the fans could easily promote and follow teams instead of just the individual players.
@@christopherwetherspoon5844 I get it. But I rooting for Denver. However if okc, Minnesota, lac, Cleveland, Miami, or Orlando win I’m very happy. You can have a player you favor but you should be fans of other ppl. Like musicians in a way
Chris....stop walking the line on LBJ. Hes the only ine the league, espn & sports agents were all in cahootz & he STILL hasnt touched Kobe, let alone MJ
As a fan not in a big market (Dallas is the 5th largest market in the US, btw), it is good for the NBA that the old guard is aging out. The flyover states are tired of it always being an east coast vrs west coast. Make me not want to watch. Then you have the headliner LeBron.... everyone that isn't a Lakers or LeBron fan are tired of this guy and the other old stars antics.
LeReferee James, Durant and Curry , its time for the league to move on from them. The league will be better when those old dudes retire, LeReferee especially. 😂🎉🎉🎉
If he can play 75 games a year, I would say LaMelo Ball could be a Global icon. His health is slowing down his progression because you need to play in order to improve but he has “It”.
Problem is when the Lebron/Curry/KD retirements hit the league will dive even deeper in viewers. Peak nba viewership was during the MJ/Bulls championship s era. Been declining gradually year by year since MJ's retirement. As great as the Bron & Steph era was, still declining numbers.
The third dude needs to speak for himself. I honestly love the young guys taking the crown. I love Steph as much as anyone but there comes a time and for these yesteryear teams that time has come
Market size and "face of the league" stuff is all overrated. If you're good, you're good. Market size does not matter anymore and nobody needs to be the face of the league
@@terrellbaker1660did LeBron make the playoffs his rookie season no....did MJ make the playoffs his rookie season no.......wemby is having a better season than both of them when they were rookies......me personally Ant man is going to take it
@@eddiecampbell9663 MJ made the playoffs in his rookie season. Look it up. And MJ averaged 28-6-6 in his ROOKIE year. That was Kobe's MVP year in 2008. Look it up. Far superior to Wemby's rookie year.
TRUE nba fans are absolutely embracing this new guard. Especially since they’re playing for franchises that historically have been dormant. I love it. Ant, ja, Shai, Wemby, Paolo, Jalen Green, Zion (when healthy) are exciting to watch. Can’t wait to see who separates themselves from the group and dominates the league
The league is in good hand!! There are teams that never won an NBA championship in their history. Tired 👀 the same teams win all the time. Mixed it up!!
What are you talking about the last 5 years the raptors first title....the bucks first title in 50 years....the nuggets first title last years......that's not the same teams....now you must be talking about the warriors which I would agree with you on that
I think its funny AD only got onto the top 75 team because he was a Laker, now he could go down as one of the biggest disappointments in league history if he can't get another title when Lebron leaves. They should take that award back and give it to Jokic who deserves it.
I’m excited to see something new. It’s even good to see Jokic, Murray, and KCP go wild against my team. The Nugs are fire, it’s what it is. I also like seeing the Knicks and Pacers.
All these greats, Steph, Lebron, and KD, and before them... They all brought something to the table thats unique about themselves and their game. Something we've never seen and they dominated. Steph revolutionizing basketball with the 3, best shooter, off-ball, ball movement, spacing he creates. His shooting is a thing of beauty. Lebron, just physically talented athlete ever at the forward, and the longevity. KD at 6'11, handling the ball and moving the way he does is first of his kind, mid range killer and sniper. Shaq, the strongest center, the unmovable force at his size. MJ, his skill, gracefulness, air, will to win and work ethic. Tim Duncan, big fundamental. NBA can promote whoever they want but whether fans will accept it and whether it sells, is another thing. It depends on the player. Ant is the closest I see being the face of the league.
It’s good for the league but it’s somewhat sentimental for me because my whole life I’ve watched Lebron’s era, the Duncan/Kobe/Paul Pierce followed by Steph/KD/Kawhi. So I will miss the generation of stars when they’re gone but it’s good that there’s a change
Lebron lakers or Curry warriors is 50% of the league fans. Their jerseys always sell the most. Their games gets watched the most. Their fans cry the most. Once they are gone the ratings will drop especially if its the Spurs.. i mean Nuggets keep winning
@@kjmaster3Because they're both in California. They'll both be replaced just like Kobe and MJ. If Luka or Jokic ever decide to move to LA then it's a wrap.
The Problem is there are Players like Curry and Lebron that are Juicing over 50 Million per Season a Piece from their Teams . Where as the Teams that are Title Contending don't have many Players like that . The Warriors or Lakers could contend for Titles Better if their Superstar Players weren't getting payed so much of their Team Salary Cap . The Warriors and Lakers bench this Season were G Level Garbage as a Result . Tne Warriors only really need a Scoring Center on the Top Unit and a 6th Man . The Lakers need a 6th Man and a 3rd Piece on the top Unit at any Position .
This is definitely a transitional period in the NBA. KD, Bron, & Steph are all struggling to make the Playoffs these days. Bron is 0-6 in his last 6 Playoff games. It’s time for new stars.
I think it's good to see new faces in the playoffs but you don't wanna move on so quickly from the stars because it could hurt the league and business... When Jordan keep trying to retire the league kept bringing him back because they wasn't ready but once Kobe and Shaq took over they didn't need him anymore
Abruptly? The leading old guards are in their mid to late 30s still getting into the playoffs. Their exits are the transitions. Who is Rob G speaking for because it's not the many.
this was far more gradual, it started in 2021 with the Bucks v Suns finals, and Durant, Lebron and Curry had their moments at the time, Durant dragged the Bucks to seven games with the injured Nets and was the main reason team USA won the last Olympic inspite of underachiving squad around him, lebron was in the wcf last year, curry finaly won the finals mvp in 2022 beating young guns like Jokic, Morant, Luka, Brunson, Tatum And Brown on the way. The late 90's - early 00's was far more abrupt: Jordan, Barkely, Drexler & KJ retired, Hakeem & Ewing got injured and declined quickly, Rodman self destruct, Pippen declined, Stockton and Malone got stuck in the second round , Robinson Became Duncan's second fiddle. And worse alot the the middle generation got their career derailed as well: Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, Mourning, Kamp... even Gary Payton wasted his statistical prime in a mediocre Seattle team...
The good thing about these new guys is that they didn't do what LeBron, KD, Harden, Kawhi, Dame, Kyrie, etc.. had done. SGA, Haliburton, Ant, Jokic, Luka, etc.. have stayed at their original markets n brought their teams to the top. Only Jokic has a championship but give the others some time.
