Section 10 of the Basin and Range Trail thru-hike vlog series documents a 111-mile hike from Ely to Baker. In this final section, the Basin and Range Trail thru-hiker will traverse Spring Valley, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Mt. Moriah Wilderness, Snake Valley, The Snake Range and hike Great Basin National Park, and summit Wheeler Peak (13,064').
The Basin and Range Trail is a spectacular 1090 mile thru-hiking route across central Nevada’s Basin and Range country, better known as the Great Basin. The Basin and Range Trail, an original long distance hiking route created by Eric Poulin, showcases some of the best hiking Nevada has to offer, along with some of the toughest. Hiking the Great Basin means hiking off-trail, bushwhacking, along game trails. Unlike the well-blazed trails of the AT, PCT and CDT, the Basin and Range Trail is a different kind of thru hike.
Section 10 of the Basin and Range Trail thru-hike vlog documentary series begins by hiking Spring Valley into the Mt Moriah Wilderness area, although the standard BRT route would begin at Cave Valley State Park and hike east across the Schell Creek Range. Bushwhack up to Deerhead Canyon and onto “The Table”, and summit the 12k+ Mt. Moriah. Hike Hendry’s Creek down to Snake Valley and over to Great Basin National Park. The ridgewalk along the crest of the Snake Range in Great Basin National Park is an epic hike with outstanding views. Summit Baker Peak, 4th highest mountain in Nevada, & Wheeler Peak, 2nd highest mountain in Nevada to symbolically end my Basin and Range Trail thru-hike. The physical end point of the Basin and Range Trail is the town of Baker, NV. Hiking Great Basin National Park is an excellent way to end the Basin and Range Trail on a high note, literally!
