After David Lama, Denis Burdet, Rob Frost and Stephan Siegrist successfully made the first ascent of the North-west Face of Cerro Kishtwar (6,200m) in 2011, Stephan was keen to come back to his beautiful region! And also come back to the same mountain. There was still the Master line - the direct line up the North-north-west Face to try. And in 2017 he was back with Thomas Huber and Julian Zanker. After an epic climb, they finally managed the first ascent of this Face. In this webinar Stephan takes us along on their incredible expedition. The film on this expedition - "An Ice Cold Story", will be shown at the IMF Mountain Film Festival 2021.
Stephan Siegrist was born and grew up in a village in the Bernese Mittelland, Switzerland, from where, in good weather, you have a great view of the Bernese Alps. After the mountains were able to win him over, a ski tour awakened his passion for adventure, and he decided to train as a mountain guide. Stephan Siegrist has been making his living as a professional alpinist and mountain guide since the age of 26. The most outstanding achievements of his mountaineering career so far include first ascents on all 7 continents, ascents of the great north faces of the Alps, expeditions and projects in northern India and Nepal, North America and Antarctica, South Africa and Patagonia. Stephan Siegrist has climbed the north face of the Eiger over forty times.

Incredible climbing a pillar-like Cerro Kishtwar. Way back, when the militancy pushed the JIM out of Kashmir to Batote, I often used to trek in Kishtwar ,in search of trg places for the Inst and Kishtwar Himalayas used to be our pet subject for discussion. But not lucky, to venture into the area as we were the constant target of the militants, who used to look to get mountaineering kit for their ops. Looking fwd to the movie on the expdn in the next IMF Film Festival.

This area(Paddar Valley) even though being a part of Kishtwar district is one of the safest places to do climbing, the valley is on the border with Zanskar and Himachal and culturally and geographically more closer to those regions. Even in peak militancy it was totally safe but being a part of Earstwhile doda district, the trekking and climbing expeditions almost ended.

All is ok but it's a request to IMF that while giving permission to Mountaineers please keep in mind that these areas are not in Kashmir, it's in Jammu Division. And also a request that the explorer's should not change the old/Local names and give fancy names to the Mountains it's been going on since decades that whoever climbs a mountain or the Liaison officer gives a fancy name according to himself, locals don't have any say in all these.

LO has been told these guys to say Har Har Mahadev when they reach on summit and they use this slogan for their respective route. It is not fantasy or sth belongs to mere fancy product of mind. I don't see anything inappropriate in their decision. Instead it is a reward and bliss.
