Loud footsteps are key components of the sneaking mechanic. You have to hear when patrolling guards are approaching your postition. Also, it helps to remind you that you are loud while moving normally and will be discovered.
Its crazy how deus ex gave no prompts for anything when you were with navarre. The choices you made in that one mission were more powerful than anything in gaming history

Best fucking game ever. Gunther was one of my favorite characters in the game. Very stoic, determined, ruthless and he had a great sense of loyalty. Warren Spector is a genius. Deus Ex is the most immersive game I have ever played. It really sucks you into the story and the world you're in.

I'm playing now with the shifter/biomod mod. I helped Paul kill the first wave of agents and then he told me to jump out the window..so I did. He survived. I'm assuming the mod fixed that specific flag issue
At this point, if you try to go back down the lift to the helicopter base (instead of taking the helicopter, like everyone expects you to), you'll run into a LOT of MJ12 agents. The designers really expected the unexpected in this game.
Because they came with FEMA director Walton Simons. They are clealy saying that "Simons gotta interrogate the prisoners". And if you do it with him, MIB's say "Simon didn't like your nose being put into such things"
@@krzysztof2459 you are right, there are only UNATCO soldiers in the airfield But as I tried the operation, I discovered something: when you go back to Brooklyn Bridge metro station, some characters have different lines, talking to you about mole people. (for instance Charlie tells you that someone who looks like you went this way after you did. Supposedly Paul?) It is incredible how so many years and times after, you still find new things. Such an awesome game
@@georgeschalon2142 - I'm fairly sure you're mistaken; the line you mention (Charlie Faun saying someone was ahead of you) is intended for the runup towards LaGuardia. Charlie's next line is very clearly telling you that the person (Paul) said they were making their way towards LaGuardia. I went back and tested it myself using a save set after killing Anna and ran back through; once you get past the first Ambrosia barrel in the terminal, the dialogue is all the same with nothing changed. The only line I've found that _appeared_ to be different is the guy who claims to be the leader of the mole people, who will tell you that he "doesn't deal with mole sympathizers", which I think _might_ be changed due to the interactions with the individuals in the next area, but I haven't been able to confirm it for certain. If you eavesdrop (in the Mole People tunnels) on the pair of NSF goons by the alarm panel closest to the washroom you need to exit through, you'll hear them state that Paul specifically had them install traps in order to slow down JC's approach. It's a really interesting bit of characterization that I'm sure not many people have heard (may be restored content, too -- it is present in GMDX).
lol ive played this game about 50 times and ive never heard this conversation before. i think that's the difference between dx1 and dx human revolution.
Beacuse they're working for MJ12 and they know he killed Anna but if they would have just told him they know about he would almost certainly turn on them and side with his brother. They're trying to avoid that and make use of JC to work for Unatco/MJ12. When you escape from Unatco Gunther tells you that he will take revenge for Anna

I had the demo of this game for at least six months lying on a coffe table, while I was still trying to complete the Quake1 expansion packs!! [back in the days of DOS, 95, 98 ect]
@robdist There is a mod that is still in beta that is going to replace every single model in the game. Currently it has replaced Gunther, soda can, baton and crowbar models. There are also tons of different texture packs and even a mod that adds shader and bloom.
@jcracker I had the game when it first came out. Gunther was there patroling as you head to the chopper to get back to unatco. If go to him and initiate coversation there is a dialog. He is not always in the exact same spot but usually in the general area of the heli pad. Yes you can save lebedev, I usually plant a LAM to blow up Anna on her way in. Also, you should have always saved Paul if you go through his motel room door. If you go out the window he is dead later in the game.
I discovered this....after I fought my way out of the hotel after mining it to hell and back and then fought my way to the subway station...I had nearly exhausted all my munitions to get to that point. And munitions are so hard to come by in this game :D
Its crazy how bad you felt for doing the right thing when you had to lie to gunther. He was such a likeable person who just did his job and drank orange soda afterwards. He seemed stoic like hero but in reality he was a cog in the machine for a anarcho capitalist dystopia
He's supposed to be a tragic figure, despite his villainous tendencies. Checking through the emails during the various visits to UNATCO reveals that not only are his biomechanical needs growing more frequent, but that he's basically fearful that he won't get the specialized care needed if he's let go by UNATCO in favor of the new generation of agents (which is essentially what happened to Jordan Shea, as per the DX Bible, who has a chip on her shoulder against UNATCO because she more-or-less stepped back from the role for a while and was never called back to service). He's always been at the mercy of other forces, whether it's UNATCO/MJ12 or (in the prequel novel Icarus Effect) the Tyrants (on behalf of the Illuminati).
@greytale not professionally. But I work in media with voice actors and operate A/V equipment. Every now and then I'm asked to do a voiceover. I mean, I agree that the lines themselves were well written. I agree that much of the acting was great for the time, and overall good. And for the limited amount of actors playing vast roles it's impressive. But it's a pet peeve for me to hire a small amount of people to do a large range that takes them out of their range and sounds unatural. "A bomb!"
@greytale I wouldn't say that about the vocal acting was at such a hugh level. However it was mostly above average. But when it was bad, it was so bad in a way that it WAS pure unadulterated GENIUS! We don't have enough games like it. What a shame.
Sure is worthwhile, LAM-ing Anna on the 747. Same for sparing her here and in the subway, which leads to killing her with the killphrase "Flatlander Woman" back on UNATCO.
@mirocu100 Then something in your game is glitched. I've saved him at the Ton, met him in the MJ12 facility and seen him when he comes to Tracer Tong's place, where he stays for the rest of the game.
so true! well, i can think of a few better games, but still rly good. and so interactive! funniest thing to do, when u are in brooklyn park, and gunther wants u dead, get him in the subway station, and pick him off from the vents, he will stop then u can run up to him and blast him with a shotgun, then hide again :L
I think I had totally different conversation. I mean, JC said, that there were a shooting, and she was dead, or sth. I mean he didn't try to lie, that G. should go talk to her.
I tried to kill all the troopers , not Gunther though , he was like an invulnerable tank with a plasma rifle ... lol . And too bad i think there's no other ways than to be captured .
@LordFrostt I just did set jcdentonmale bcheatsenabled true. Much faster, and I still laugh at people who say console needs exact capital letters. They obviously didn't know what they were doing. I spent two years modding and mapping for this game.
