I wonder how police are so easily fooled by age. Psychosis does not go away once you hit a certain age. The very young and the elderly probably get away with a hell of a lot because they "looked" harmless. People that look like serial killers would have a hard time being serial killers.

Its not the "police" that were fooled by age, everyone ones. Because normally serial killers dont make it to that age that we know about because they are caught, albeit being a woman too.

So the officer initially searched the house looking for the missing homeless man--"I looked everywhere, I even knocked on the walls"--but somehow he missed the disgusting stench that other tenants complained about & that he later described as "very very foul" in the spare bdrm where body fluids of the deceased were decomposing. How does a police officer miss something like that in a search?

It's surprisingly common especially in the UK the forensics searched houses before and missed bodies look up Tia Sharp she was in the attic for weeks when police were searching and also look up Justice for Julie on here she was hidden under a bath and again police missed it and it was actually her own mother who found her under there 😱

My wife and I on our 1st anniversary of our 1st date (Nov. 15, 1988), decided to drive by this house for the excitement. Of course F street was totally blocked off and completely lit up by generator lamps, the backhoe poised for action. Real creepy. We realized it was creepy of us to rubberneck, but it made our 1st date anniversary unforgettable. Btw, we’ve now been married for 28 years.

Aretha Brown that’s definitely true. But I’ll also add that, for many people, symptoms of schizophrenia are more centered around catatonic behavior (e.g., complete lack of movement), disorganized speech (e.g., unable to form coherent sentences), diminished emotional expression (e.g., flat affect), etc.. Many of these people are not disruptive, dangerous, or unpredictable... they just may not be able to meet their own needs

I agree. Aileen Wournos was almost certainly not the first female serial killer and was definitely not the only one. Dorothea P. was a serial killer with more victims than Wournos, and I can think of quite a few other female serial killers. Many used poison, drugs, or asphyxiation as their killing method, while Wournos used a gun. Otherwise, one of the only things somewhat unique about Wournos, as a female serial killer, is that all her victims were adult males. But "Black Widow" female serial killers have also targeted adult males. Another somewhat unique aspect of Wournos is that she was given several death sentences, a much harsher punishment than most female serial killers. In my opinion, Wournos was not sane enough to be given the death penalty. Note -- There are also several women who were partners in crime with their serial killer husbands or boyfriends.

She's no "mass-murderer", she's a serialkiller! ----- The murders she's committed, didn't happen in a very short timespan or during the period of max. two to three days, directly following consequently the moment of her very first killing(s). - Which is btw the commonly respected description of a "mass-murderer". - They'd also mentioned these facts in the interviews shown during the scenes, when LE has been digging out all her victims' bodies from her backyard; etc. - They'd clearly stated that some of the human remains dated several years back, while others were relatively fresh so that they're able to identify them with their fingerprints. (Meaning the corpses they'd found were from different years). ---- Btw that's a top example why our elderly are so afraid of nursing homes, hospitals & boarding houses, specially when they've no relatives. Or their "loved ones" don't really care bout them and all they obviously want is "their estate/heritage/jewelry&cash". Life is a bad joke, the elderly people have raised, clothed and fed us; we'd be nothing without them/we won't even exist. - They'd deserved way better, imho!

I lived east of Sacramento when this story broke. This was quite a object of discussion for some months after this came out and many macabre jokes also. We called her the murderer of F Street.

I know this sounds like 20=20 hindsight but Dorothy Puente definitely does not look like a sweet little old lady. She has a really creepy sinister look about her. She looks mean. In contrast, Bert Montoya and his Social Worker both looked very sweet and kind.

🙄 For future reference- you don't have "feelings in the back of your head" - you only have gut feelings and your brain interprets the feelings into thought, so that you can react properly, or prepare and plan for that moment. Also, only the truly wise and intelligent humans will cooperate, and be nice, warm and inviting. It's not the investigators they have a problem with. After they found so much evidence, you can't stop the process. You already know damn well you can't change the situation. Go with the flow. That's all she was doing. She knew she had a slight chance to escape. She gambled but knew that was the only slight chance she had she thought. As always, no one can ever truly escape going to prison unless they die. Mexico nowadays wont make a difference, just save you time, while the papers go through. If Mexico knows you're there they will keep you in their prison until America's paperwork goes through for the okay that they can come pick you up. Back then she still wouldn't have lived very long after crossing the border. Even then she would have had to be someone, either government or cartel related. They wont allow random gringos to live the high life.

This is such a ridiculous documentary. The dramatic re-inactment was terable. AND They did not even mention the account of when the police first interviewed Dorthea!!!!(Which was after the first body was recovered) They let her GO back to her home(after 2.5 hours). AND She was there for the WHOLE NIGHT, following into the next Morning. When she left her house to "meet her Nephew for coffee" or rather to make her Escape,Cabrera was on Duty to watch her soup untill she 'got back'! AND she left with John McCauley,so that would be the reason for his brief arrest and questioning.

Could you do a review of Juan Corona, the Mexican labor contractor who killed at least 25 migrant workers? It was a real big deal in the Sacto. area at the time, but I’ve never heard it mentioned since. And speaking of terrible things that happened in Sacto. in the 70’s, how about doing a review of the Korean era fighter jet that tried to take off from Sacto. Executive airport, lost altitude and slammed into the Farrell’s Ice Cream shop in the Crossroads shopping center across the street from that airport? Thanks much for all your work!

Get Smarter yes you're right, I haven't seen much and almost nothing about Juan Corona. And sadly that monster killed 25 or is to believe more people, why are we not talking about this? It will be really interesting to know who were the victims and why he killed so many people

It's not that she fooled the police and people into believing she was innocent for being an old person. It's that she was a woman, no matter the age. This case was mentioned in the book that I highly recommend: "When She Was Bad: How and Why Women Get Away With Murder" by Patricia Pearson.
