I'm sorry it's been so long between these videos but I'm finally back working on the MK7 1.0L EcoBoost engine. And there's some good news - it looks like the rebuild can go ahead! There's just a few more things I need to check first which I'll show you in this video as they're important to look out for while the engine is apart.

Straight from one of the best ford master tech's mouth here is his best 3 advice tips on this issue from the vehicles first service are : 1, Change the oil and filter at no longer than 3k intervals. 2, ONLY use Castrol MAGNATEC STOP-START 5W-20 E. This oil was produced with Ford and Castrol together specifically for the ecoboost engines to stop the degradation of the two wet belts. 3, Don't use cheap quality fuel.. Shell or BP if possible. My friend has followed these top 3 pro tips on his 1.0 ecoboost that he uses for his work as a taxi driver and it's just approaching 177k without any of the issues commonly reported with these engines. Hope this helps anyone who owns one of these vehicles fitted with 1.0 litre ecoboost engine.

Not cleaning the engine would have been a great, great mishap. You've got it all disassembled, very logically is to crack on with cleaning of the engine, this was the most detailed engine clean.

Been waiting for this video! I have a Fox EcoBoost Fiesta in the US with 108k miles now, been getting antsy over the timing and oil pump belts. Hoping they don’t let go before I can get it serviced. This series is giving me some insight on what to do if I can’t get to it. I may end up buying a replacement 1 liter and slapping that in, then rebuilding the stock one while I dog on the replacement. Keep it up, friend!
@MendItModIt
@MendItModIt Год назад
If you’ve had it serviced regularly and the right oil has been used then you should be okay, they are a pain to work on but like it’s not impossible like people make out, I’m not a mechanic and I’m working my way through it… granted rather slowly it it’s all a learning curve

@@MendItModIt Luckily I used to be a big Subaru guy so I’ve got experience with engine rebuilds, replacements, etc, and of course the boxer engines are a drag to work on lol. I just found a timing belt engine locking kit for the fox on Amazon for only $80 so I might start snapping up the parts to do it and find a cheap replacement as well. This engine is loads of fun even for US roads, and I still average 38-40mpg, it really is the best of both both worlds. Hope to see more on this series, and I may reach out for help on mods for it in the future since it’s not really supported here due to low volume outside of the EcoSport.

The strainer pulls out of the oil pump with a side hammer and hook, once cleaned tap it back into place and peen the edge to retain it.

The vacuum valve can be purchased aftermarket but i use a vw style one way valve directly in the vacuum hose. Far less likely to fail.

My coolant tank cracked and it caused the engine to overheat due to coolant leaking. This things should have come with a warning for low coolant. I had to put a new engine 🥲

Hi mate, I’ve heard the head gasket needs to be bolted back in, in a specific order (bolts). Any idea how that goes? Cheers
@MendItModIt
@MendItModIt Год назад
There is a tightening sequence for the cylinder head yes, and you need new head bolts. Should be in the next video when I got the new head gasket

Going really well. If you haven't yet refitted the timing belt and cover, could I please ask a favour - I'm interested to know if it would be possible to fit a new oil pump belt without removing the sump. My idea would be to slide off the timing belt sprocket, draw back the oil pump sprocket until the belt is free, then wiggle the belt past the plastic cover (or if necessary flex the cover just enough to do so). Reverse op's with new belt.
@TheFlyingHouseOfficial
@TheFlyingHouseOfficial Год назад
Just finished my timing belt today, you can fit the oil pump belt on without removing the sump. You can reach down and pop off one side of the plastic cover and shimmy the old belt off and new belt on. It was a very tight fit but it worked!

Hi Patrick. I am working in a 2018 Focus 1.0 and the small oil band it has another gear. A third gear, so I will assume that has no position and I will install it like that. I changed the small oil band. Do you have any idea what that third gear is for?

I'm in the middle of tearing apart a 1.0 Ecoboost also! Could you please check your camshaft bearings closest towards the cam sprockets? Mine appear to have lost polish and have some slightly rough looking wear. I even bought a cheap second motor and it has the same wear pattern!

What sealant would you recommend on the rocker cover? Need to do it but have put it off as couldn't seem to find the ford sealants as Haynes mentioned 2 but local ford garage wasn't much help
@TheFlyingHouseOfficial
@TheFlyingHouseOfficial Год назад
AB-AX is the sealent you need for the timing belt end, you need LR-2 for the flywheel end. I wouldn't bother getting LR-2 as Ford charge £100+ for a 75ml tube.I just used AB-AX on both sides at £25 per 50ml. Finis code is 2 633 427.

Where is the gearbox oil filler plug on this engine. I changed the drivers side drive shaft, no problem there LOL, about ¾ litre of oil came out of the drive shaft opening but for the life of me I cannot find the filler plug. Am I missing something.

Carry out an engine bay cleaning, since the engine is out you'll have plenty of space to clean the engine bay and even maybe clean the underside of the car.

Can you replace oil belt without removing oil sump??
@MendItModIt
@MendItModIt Год назад
Don’t see why not but I wouldn’t bother replacing the belt unless you’re going to check the oil pump pick-up and clean or replace it. If you’re going to the trouble of removing the crank bolt why would you not remove the sump and check/clean everything 🤷🏻‍♂️
