YO boys I love you thicc boii stuff and your own stuff but right now i've just gotta ask the most important question on all of youtube more than is destiny 2 a good farming game it's will you sell skill up couches and will there be a thicc boii ones or better Laymen ones dam it man i must know ?
well Miss Price just joined the list of names that will never be hired by any serious company. She attacked her last employer with a "under the belt" argument, of course, Andy "Aliens colonial marines is awesome and people can't understand it" Pitchwork told BS again because, as a lot of people, he didn't search the whole history. As always, it seems she have some problem taking responsibility for her actions but it's a problem lot of people have.
Working for a corporate company. I believe he was fired because he stuck up for her. Because if she was willing to debase the fans like that. Anyone who would stick up for her could potentially do the same.
I haven't seen it anywhere else, sure its out there though, I agreed with you on Fries seeming to get a harsh punishment, I saw the "she didn't ask for your input" statement, but YongYea put up a video that had deleted tweets where he backs up Price's this is sexism. So yeah he choose his hill to die on when he backed up her toxicity
Adam Thompson That guy wasnt even working at bioware at the time of the tweet. He hadn't been with bioware for quite some time at that point and was "representing bioware" for social points. Once Kasey Hudson shot the dudes tweet down, the guy blocked people from commenting on his page.
Just a normal average guy only those on the wrong side of the debate wish and glory in others death from an illness that afflicts millions of people and billions throughout time
I'm a female gamer and this whole thing makes me sad. She got what she deserved. Being a female doesn't mean you can do whatever you want and get away with it because you're a "female" LOL This whole thing just makes us look bad >_>
I'm also a female gamer and I haven't figured out which makes me sadder - that this female is making the rest of us reasonable women look bad, that people are actually siding with her, or that people actually believe that all women are this unreasonable and that we'll play "the woman card" at the drop of a hat. (Oh! My hurt lady-feelings! /s) It's especially upsetting because I enjoy playing GW2.
Don’t worry, Jessica is the only one that looks bad in this. She is so far gone. Any person with an ounce of common sense understands that she does not represent a reasonable woman, or even a reasonable human being for that matter
matt k... the problem is that what she is doing doesn't just make her look bad. It gives all of the REAL toxic masculine jerks out there another example of a (in He Is Awoken't words) "feminist c**t" crying wolf. It lessens the impact of actual misogyny cases. It shouldn't, but it does.
The reason why people don't get the law involved is because the law would shut them down and set a precedent that what they are doing is wrong. Having the government officially say what they are doing is wrong destroys narratives.
This jessica person doesn't know she's causing more harm for fellow women. Which employer would want to hire women when anything, even a simple polite comment can be said to be sexist and better yet be an excuse to insult customers with no expectation of repercussions whatsoever.. She's a bad person
I agree, although I usually ignore this type of thing, it's actually getting somewhat scary how much modern feminism involves gender where it doesn't belong just to justify some actions and/or to get the upper hand in an argument. Putting jobs at risk for personal fulfillment and because you're not willing to swallow your pride is wrong.
The sad thing is that very often women do have bad things happen. She was so out of line and then to fall back on sexism does nothing but make it harder for a woman with a true issue with sexism.
I haven't tuned in to all these major gaming publications for years now. I prefer all these independent channels Like Yong and Gaymen Laming. Keep up the good work, boys! :)
mondi250629 I think the reason the fucking games media is defending her is because of their palyness (give and take relationship is another term if you prefer that) with people in games development and publishing. Most of them have always acted like they are part of the same closed circle as devs which is the reason why they were so late in criticizing bs greedy practises from companies like activision and ea. "Will somebody think of the poor developers" narrative that we always hear now whenever a controversy errupts is a narrative that they pushed. Many of them are left leaning also so that is of course another reason too but I think their palyness and sympathy for people in development/publishing is the bigger reason. Thank god for youtube becoming more prominent now and the games fucking media not being as relevant anymore....
natty_the_great Agreed. You can be sympathetic to a group but at the same time you have to be objective or neutral. Look at an issue with as many angles as possible to give the best report possible. Their job is to inform and report, not to preach and self-aggrandize.
Original Tenka Yup, I also noticed that after awhile. They're also tied too close to the publishers that they're afraid of not towing the line otherwise they lose special access and incentives from them.
mondi250629 yes if you know about jim sterling then he is just that in many ways. (nobody's right about everything and he also makes mistakes) He was part of the "games media" for many years, working for sites like destructoid before giving up working in the "games media" and starting a youtube channel. Despite once being "a part of the gang" he has crticized the "games media" many times for their willingness to be sympathetic to developers and publishers because of the perks they get in return like access to info about the games, review copies, interviews with devs etc. His videos on this and related subjects are very interesting and provide good insight on how the games fucking media works...
Wow, she is just legitimately incapable of understanding she fucked up. She jumped down some guys throat for having the audacity of trying to start a dialogue and immediately turned to shrieking about sexism and even now is still trying to make it out like she only got in trouble because she is a woman. This is text book narcissism, she truly lacks the capacity to see herself as the cause of her problem. The really sad part is she will likely never get better and will never understand why bad things keep happening to her.
Brian Sansum Everything is about gender, obviously if you think something isnt about than you are a sexist pig. Next you'll say pencils aren't keeping women down.
Brian Sansum ummm maybe read the whole comment next time. They were clearly joking, way to be the stereotypical toxic Male even some is agreeing with you albeit in subversive way.
You know what would destroy her argument to the point of her actually understanding that she was wrong? If the Arenanet CEO was a female. Oh man, I wonder how that would have gone..
Feminism took care of that ages ago; "internalised misogyny". Perfect shutdown for any woman who disagrees with, or doesn't toe, the party line. Also known as, "collaborators".
She was actually remarkably competent and professional when she made her original post. It's sad that Arenanet has lost employees that when it comes to game development they actually seem to know what they are doing. The problem is that was a packaged deal with viciously and unjustifiably lashing out at the community on social media. Honestly it's hard to picture her original post and her mental breakdown as coming from the same person. Goes to show how fucked up she is.
The bottom line is that Price needs to grow up. She clearly has no integrity, and wants to have the right to say whatever she wants with impunity. The real world doesn't work that way. Better she learn that now, than later in life.
Not to mention they've already done it towards Cyberpunk, which doesn't come out until (as of this comment) September 2020. Polygon jumps on-board smear campaigns whenever they think it will appease their business interests. It's like how all of the companies that have ties to Epic Games were happy to also smear CDPR and Cyberpunk the moment CDPR announced they would fund GOG 2.0 with Cyberpunk's profits.
I think the reaction to this story highlights how wide the chasm between the reality of a normal man or woman who plays videogames and the twisted, narrative-driven sphere of games media outlets really is.
Hands down the best analysis/response to this issue. Your personalities are golden, so glad there is such an amazing Aussie based games media channel on YT. You guys are IT! Had me in stitches with the memes and reading of her cringey article!
Adrian Mercado they were totally reasonable concepts and terms if used in the right context, but seeing insane people throwing those words at everything have devalued their actual meaning
A man talking down condescendingly to a woman is annoying but it is not an offense specific to women only. Women do it to men all the time. The idea of mansplaining is not reasonable. It is just blanket offense taking.
Adrian Mercado well tbh the reason the term was coined was because the majority of men who talk down to women do it on the sole merit of the other person being a woman. i’m obviously not even trying to imply that the majority of men do this, just that on a fuck ton of cases of a man talking down to a woman, that’s usually the reason, which makes the term reasonable. that’s why you don’t see a term like womensplaining being used that much, there aren’t enough cases for the term to be relevant, since statistically speaking men hold more positions of power in general (though that could be argued in some fields). however, you could use the term “womensplaining” in this case. price really is bringing down someone else on the sole merit of him being a man.
Funny thing is that anybody who has ever had a woman boss or been in a relationship with a woman (including other women) will tell you they've had shit explained to them they already know by that woman. Being an obnoxious, condescending asshole is not remotely unique to men. Women can excel at it as well as any man.
I realize in the current social climate, Price's communication strategy might actually work in her favor, at least in the short term. Creating elaborate alternative narratives and throwing dirt in all directions seems to be working in this day and age, so why wouldn't it work for her. But in a sane world, it seems like someone should try to tell her she's really not doing herself any favors with the whole follow-up on this and give her a chance to stop digging in a spiral, take a breath, think it over and move forward. Everything she's said on twitter and in the following interviews gives off the impression of someone who is completely incapable of engaging in some self-reflection, realizing when she screwed up, taking responsibility for it and have the decency to apologize. It's ok, we all screw up sometimes. But when you then go on to explain how you were only doing The Right Thing, try to portray being mean and sexist as heroics and suggest every man's interaction with her is secretly motivated by sexism, it just becomes sad and hurts the social movements that she's abusing as a tool to cover for her apparently deficient social skills. That signal is: "We're all in tribes now, and protecting our tribe matters more than having a good hard look at facts, employing some critical thinking and accepting the possibility one of our own may have screwed up."
Guys absolutely spot on. I’m pretty new to the games industry as a journalist and when you start to see the big media sites that you used to listen to behave like this: man it’s an eye opener for sure. I mean yeah, you expect Kotaku and Polygon to limp every time someone kicks an SJW but I honestly thought the likes of PC Gamer and RPS had more sense. Yet, like you say, every article is woefully edited, to the point that they make Price the victim and everyone else an angry mob of misogyny. Interestingly I called PC gamer out for this (very professionally I might add) and this morning I see I’m being blocked by their editors on Twitter. Seems like a pattern here.. 🙂 So yeah, in short thank fucking god for channels like yours and YongYea telling it how it actually is.
lol it's weird, unfortunately. The "gaming journalists" are spreading lies and misinformation or giving half truths, while regular youtubers are giving actual unbiased news. As a gw2 that saw all this drama from day 1, it's so stupidly sad.
We should have a mass of people sharing/tweet these videos to the news outlets, and people defending Price, to show what real reporting on the facts is lol
It's quite liberating since everyone else is responsible for my actions. But I always forget that I'm responsible for everyone else's actions. Ah, humanity.
Arenanet is fine. Every sane person on youtube defends them and shows that Ms Price is a kind of crazy person. That publications like Polygon, which most people just read for a laugh, attack Arenanet, is not harming them at all. Quite the opposite.;)
As a fellow Australian, this video re-Inforces my faith in this nation as one built on common sense - although I see that foundation deteriorating rapidly. Stay strong, Laymen Gaming. Sell out to publishers all you want, but don't sell out to decency and humanity...
Anon Unknown I know they called path of exiles 2nd best update shit because it was to hard. It did not make the game any harder and just doubled the game in size
Where did Gamestar support ArenaNet? I only found two news reports on the subject and in both they're are as neutral as possible writing very cautiously in a "and than this person said that..."-manner. They are not taking sides with Price but I wouldn't call that support for ArenaNet. So did I miss something?
I don't know where Gamestar supported Anet, what they did was reporting completely neutral about the issue. Getting the facts out and let the readers decide. This is what I expect from game journalism and what Polygon and Kotaku should have done. Laying out the facts and just report what happened completely neutral, while letting the readers decide. You can still take sides in something like a " My Opinion" category, but news should be neutral. Gamestar has quite some issues, but when they get things right, they nail it.
He has a penis, it would be almost impossible for him to win. She on the other hand could have won if she decided to sure Anet and her male colleague wasn't fired too.
You guys are right on. She falsely labelled someone as a sexist so she could be a bully. She is wrong on every level and just keeps doubling down on it.
Polygon and Kotaku arent gaming journalists, they just advertise games and news. Gaming journalism is rare, I'd go so far as to say the real gaming journalists are on RU-vid. Jessica Price should get a job at EA.
The fight for gender equality and equity is important, but pulling sexism into a conversation from a gamer to a developer is just plain sad. It feels like Jessica Price just want the conflict and the way she responds just doesn't help any dialog or attempt of reconciliation! She's just a sad person.
the thing is... western feminism hasn't been about equality for 30 years now... they've been spreading their man-hating female superiority ideology for about that long after they got everything they wanted in the '80s let's not pretend we don't have a thoroughly gynocentric society already... and these self-proclaimed feminists don't care about the parts of the world where women are actually stil oppressed and considered 2nd class citizens... nah, it's all about them and getting their own, they're horrible egotistical people, that are willing to lie about being victims with fabricated "facts". exploiting people's sympathy is like the most underhanded form of manipulation/emotional blackmail imaginable. these people are fucking backstabbers. let's also not pretend that the overwhelming majority people calling themselves feminists/SJW, aren't like this. sure, there are actual well-thinking egalitarian feminists like christina hoff-sommers and the likes too, but they are rare exceptions these days, and most of them are from the older days... never seen a sensible/intellectually honest 3rd wave feminist in my life, that generation has been riding the identity/gender politics wave from the very beginning... i don't know... i somehow don't feel like supporting "equality" when the meaning is defined by a morally bankrupt misandric all-female interest group with clear conflicts of interest... call me crazy, but i have a different view on equality, in fact it's about time a lot more of these manipulative bitches have their victim card revoked in the name of equality.
Feminism has never been about equality. Look up the founders of feminism and their literature works. It was always about spreading their brand of communist Marxism. It has always been about hating men.
There isn’t any equality between the sexes. Men and women are different. Sure, there are outliers but, the majority of men and women have typical sexual characters and motivations. Equal opportunity exists. The problem with people demanding “equality” is that they’re focused on an equality of outcome. You can’t have an equality of opportunity and a forced equality of outcome - those two things are mutually exclusive. Men and women are complimentary and this move to push them to compete is a war on biology. Can women be CEOs? Sure they can! Do most women want to be CEOs? Nope. Notice how no one talks about “gender equality” when looking at the disproportionate number of men in sanitation, mining, and manual labour? This is because the parasites trying to force women into “safe”, high paying office jobs want all of the privileges and none of the responsibilities (feminism in a nutshell).
BatfishTV M Finally someone gets it. This whole time I've been able to stand these lemons is by focusing on Asuka's ass in the background. Or will she be another female victim of toxic masculinity in gaming media?
I am so glad I am subscribed to you guys. As a GW2 that saw all this drama on day one, it is absolutely infuriating to see the "gaming journalist" misconstrue the entire situation just to push their own agenda and at the same time, hurting the gw2 reputation.
When the ops manager at a security company I worked at got fired, the CEO flew into town from the head office, watched as he cleared out his desk, and then escorted him off the premises. When you screw up badly enough, the CEO WILL get involved. (The dude forgot to submit a multi million dollar contract when it came up for renewal and we lost the client)
So, I am a long time Arena Net addic...err...fan. The policy has always been, play nice. Devs like Gaile Gray have set the standard for being awesome. She defined polite behavior, respectful dialog, and talking frogs. So, the Guild Wars community both lives up to that standard and sets that standard in general. The Dev, Jessica Price, that went all SJW broke all of those standards, rules, and traditions. So, she had to go.
What's striking is the level of respect and honesty coming from Deroir and ArenaNet and the Guild Wars community, and the profound lack of respect and total dishonesty coming from Price, Kotaku, Polygon, Rock Paper Shotgun, et al
well whats a bigger story ? "game dev got fired after insulting community member" or "female game dev got fired after defending herself against sexist comments" ... they will twist the truth to a point where they think that they have a good story.
chill9871 did you read the thread? Where was Deroir being sexist? She’s a bat shit crazy narcissist that plays the victim. She was the toxic asshat. Not Deroir.
vanidge Fuck that. Don't throw that kinda shade on Warframe. How about instead of predatory practices against one of the best positive gaming companies out there, these other companies, you know, train their people to be better in the social department? Like a normal job would.
No it fucking doesn't. That Obama bullshit was lies based on very heavily debunked "studies" done in ways that inflated the gap". The actual "gap" is often ~ 2-5 cents and the only big gap in avg wages is found in offices where WOMEN often make more than their male peers between the ages of 20-30.
Ricky Loves You I would reccomend you to look into this topic. Pay gap is not real. There is a gap in how much men and women actually earn but that's because of the difference in jobs each sex tends to choose, women not working during pregnancy etc. Its really an interesting topic. And what's even better is that all the statistics are on the internet. There is no excuse to be ignorant about this topic
The co-worker would have been sacked to ensure that she can't call the company sexist since they are dismissing a male and a female. Obviously not the sole reason but a big part I would imagine I posted the top part of the comment at the start of the video haha. Imagine if the ceo didn't sack the other guy.
Why the fuck does hollywood and the gaming industry think it's acceptable to conduct yourself in that unprofessional manner? In any other industry, if you behave like that, you'd be canned instantly and never be able to find another job again.
guys, guys, let me explain: She is a narrative designer. she cant let this end just like that, this is a QUEST SHE IS DESIGNING with the objective of showing how a NPC can grow whilst developing emotions and character in a modern MMO so that PCs can empathize with. Ill let you decide who the NPC and PCs are. Bam! solved. gimme a cookie...wait, not THAT kind of cookie >.
I feel like the larger problem is present in this video. Before you can even criticize a woman you have to make the default "I'm not a sexist. I support women" statement. Which means that if you criticize a woman you are inherently seen as sexist. Even as I type this I feel the need to insert some disclaimer support women and acknowledging sexism. Most people aren't sexist and making people feel like they are sexist because they have an opinion about something will get noone nowhere.
Yeah, I will never describe myself as "pro-women" anymore then I would as "pro-man". Supporting someone for the reason of their sex alone is SEXIST by definition. One should never have to add qualifiers to honest criticism offered without malicious intent. These are the times we live in though.
I am a sexist. I dont support women. Sick and tired of this shit. Think its time to just start shutting down this stuff with ridiculous sarcasm. "See this? This is you. This is what you actually think I think."
If you work in fast food, and insult a customer, you're gone. If you work in a call center, and insult a customer, you're gone. Even if they start it. I don't see what's so hard for her to understand.
That's the first time I ever saw anything from Deroir, and I already felt really bad for him after relaying his opinion so nicely, then being attacked and then apologizing for it. I had no idea he might have been her biggest fan before that, which really breaks my heart.
I recently started a new job and my employer made me read and sign something the Employee "Code of Conduct". And in the Code of Conduct (and I'll paraphrase here because I dont remember it entirely) it went something like "As a representative of the company You will hold yourself to a professional standard and treat every colleague, partner, vendor, CUSTOMER, etc with the utmost respect". Now professional codes of conduct are nothing new and are pretty standard. I am willing to bet Arena.net had one too which JP failed to actually understand.
Skill Up I love you man but Affirmative Action is just another way to discriminate based on race and gender. My philosophy is, the best person for the job, scholarship, etc. should get it. When I was young I used to play American Football. Unfortunately I am not a tall individual. So when I got to high school and tried out for the team, well... let’s just say height really makes a difference. Since I am a minority in the U.S. I could claim lack of representation. But even if I were to be put on the field to play I’d know that I took the place of a more deserving player. And if mediocrity becomes acceptable for the sake of representation it will eventually ruin the sport. I think the same holds true in all circumstances. You should get the job or the spot on the team because you are the best person for it. Not because of melanin or vagina. But those are just my thoughts. PS: I joined the wrestling team instead and became a quite skilled wrestler. Enough to earn the 160 lb spot over others wrestlers trying out for it.
The big issue with affirmative action and quotas is it diminishes the efforts of those who made it based on merit. If a company with a hiring quota recruits a woman into a role, there's always the question of whether they're actually talented or are a diversity hire hovering over them. It's not just the colleagues who wonder if they're a diversity hire, though, the employee will also be asking the question of "was I actually hired because I've worked really hard to get where I am, or was I hired based on my gender?" Diversity quotas do more harm than good, and diminish the work that individuals have accomplished, reducing them down to their gender/race/what-have-you.
You. I like you. You think like I do. On the topic though, Representation over merit has saturated most, if not all companies to the point that sub-par work is slowly but surely becoming commonplace. If you truly want to respect a minority, don't coddle them. Calling everything they do a masterpiece is just as demeaning as calling everything they do Satan's turd. I just wonder why so many people don't know this.
"The racism of low expectations" I believe is the phrase. Having to lower the bar in an attempt to cater to certain demographics is racist in and of itself, as you're insinuating that the demographic you're trying to encourage is actually incapable of meeting the standards of others. I also have another saying that others should probably live by: "positive discrimination is STILL discrimination"
Angel Romell Colon Then you could at least base "affirmative action" based on economic class or income instead of assuming everybody who is brown or endowed with a vagina is underprivileged. And while not always the case, these policies often can be linked to anti-white, anti-male agendas.
Are there any other devs that didn't back Jessica Price up? It seems like other devs and mainstream media gaming outlets support her. Honest question, is there anyone who works in the industry who called her out for being a bully to Deroir and supported ArenaNet's decision to fire her?
A2 Freedom of speech is crushed in the mainstream, any response to an event that isn’t aligned with the current political atmosphere is branded as racist by everyone.
I know one of the sjw who went on some great twitter rant about the situation and i asked her if she even read all the tweets and she hadnt -_- At this point, feminists amd sjw are all just memes I showed her the tweets and she literally tried to find something wrong with deroir's comment but she couldnt, instantly blocks me
