Ask any father who is going through a custody battle in court if sexism against men is real. I consider myself a feminist but bias against men is a real thing. I’ve seen judges give the kids to a drug addict mother over a father because she was “more available and appeared warmer” despite being on probation and many reports of neglect to DCSF.

There is power unbalance everywhere, that's not a female only struggle. The only difference is that men are more often than not the ones with the power (which isn't necessarily an issue) so it feels like it's an anti-women thing when in reality, if a boss is shit, he will be shit to men and women alike (unless he really is sexist). But in those situations, who are the most listened to and cared for ? Women. Because the only systemic unbalance I can think of in our society is that women and children are the most protected individuals in our society. And that's something that's observable right at the start of our human interactions: in school.

A female worker in Riot proposed character ideas to the board during a meeting and nobody was interested. Suspecting something was up, she asked a male coworker of the same position to pitch the same exact ideas a week later. He was skeptical but lo and behold the board applauded and accepted it, "this is awesome!". It's pretty gnarly in Riot Games. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, this pretty much proves that Riot is a toxic working environment where women are looked down on. I'm sure there are other examples out there (like Quantic Dream), but this doesn't equate "Women have it harder in general", it only proves that this particular studio is terrible to work at as a woman. I'm not trying to take anything away from the real issues out there, but I really want people to stop generalising like it's the norm. Here it's like someone who went to work at Konami, got fucked over and decided to label every game studio as scum who destroy their devs based on this example alone and a couple anecdotes reported on by the media.

Andrew, it's a good story (and maybe they are sexist), but maybe she was just a bad presenter. Some people just aren't good at that kind of thing. Another thing is that, if she was a bad presenter, nobody wants to tell her (especially if it will seem like mansplaining lol). A lot of CS guys don't like to admit if they didn't get what was being said, so they will just pretend to be uninterested. (I recently supervised a women doing a presentation at a meeting and jumped in a few times when she moved too fast... the other people weren't sexist, they just tuned out when they got lost and weren't filling to admit it). Not saying you're wrong (again you could be right), but getting truth about SJWs from Kotaku is like getting the truth about Nazis from Goebbels' flyers.

It's more like social acceptance of an identity causes people who have it to stop hiding it. I mean, back in TEH DAHK AGES you'd get yourself killed if you admitted to being an atheist, say. When that was no longer the case, did atheism suddenly become contagious, or were more people just willing to talk about and self identify as atheists? Or, more recently, see: Homosexuality. Did the number of gay individuals in the population astronomically spike suddenly, or did a shift in social climate permit more people to "come out of the closet," as it were?

Btw Riot has (probably) violated state law by using a public owned space ,the conference center for PAX, and discriminated based on gender and sex. State law clearly defines conference centers owned by the government as specific places where groups cannot at any point for any amount of time prevent groups from experience the “full” experience. As far as I can tell, by not allowing men into the room, they have effectively used public space for discrimination and violating the civil rights of men.

The troubling thing I have with some of these arguments is that people will use them to dismantle any effort to further the representation of certain groups in certain areas. One time my ex girlfriends friend was having boyfriend struggles. I offered to help. Their other friend turned to me and said "youre a straight white male so your opinion doesnt matter" i was just like cool have fun. Looks to at the time gf. she seems conflicted but ended up sided with her friend. We had a lot of friends come first boyfriend come second issues so it wasnt surprising but it hurt. Best part was they ended up doing what i uad advised and it worked. The friend who said that to me ended up betraying them. And later on we broke up. It can happen. but its certainly rare and honestly the only part of it that bothered me was that my gf didnt defend me from her friends for trying to help

I call that bullshit!! I was once asked along with my friends by my Sociology of Gender Studies Professor to attend her seminar about Woman Psychology and Gender Studies. We're a bunch of dudes (15 to be exact) in a room full of woman (maybe around 200ish). It was awkward indeed but we guys could still join in and could learn a thing or two. Heck, me and my friend even engaged in the discussion and it was all clicked. I mean the seminar was about woman, for woman, from a woman but there's still room for a men to come and listen. Heck it was a good change of perspective sometimes. It was "fair" There's no such a thing as "taking things away to make it even" to be called "fair". They keep butchering the term "fair" to their own agenda it make me sick.

Isn't it ironic, that this Danial person, was arguing how there cannot be sexism, and prejudice etc against men (Which is BS, a man trying to break into an industry dominated with women have faced the similar issues women do) by belittling men and being prejudice and sexist against men? How difficult would it have been just to come out and say, that the event was for women only because Riot want to get the opinion of women forward so they can get a better understanding of the issue on hand, and and feel that by having men in the audience some women who have suffered abuse may not feel comfortable openly talking about things. Then moving forward have event including both men and women.

One thing that I think needs to be addressed is that there are many disciplinary steps a company can take before firing an individual, especially one speaking their mind on an open platform. I do not think his actions were appropriate, nor do I think Jessica Price's were either, however I don't think either deserved to be terminated over their respective acts. Both should have been disciplined and warned, then terminated upon any future transgressions.

I think one of the ways we can move away from this stuff is by stopping the segregated conversation. Men/women/non binary...whatever. We are all people. Make and enforce rules for people. Exclusion begets exclusion. Inclusion begets inclusion. We are all a part of the conversation and excluding offenders, whether perceived or real, only deepens the problem. We need to get to a place as a spices where we stop talking past each other and start talking to each other.

Talk about how EA filtered out the words "White Man" and "DLC" from the battlefield 5 chat but not descriptions like brown man or asian man. Also your thoughts on the Witcher Netflix show looking at only BAME actors for Ciri ( basically no white actors which is true to the lore version ).

Would just like to point out that there isn't a power imbalance, the power is just in different areas. Even the mention of rape from a woman is life ending for a man, whereas the mention of rape from a man could either end you (where u use it casually to describe), or brand you a wimp for not enjoying being raped. Plenty of power for both genders, just in different areas.
