comics are mostly taken over by leftists/SJW's(especially Marvel), so attacks towards fans are an everyday thing. the chief of Marvel comics is an SJW and said "Marvel comics will be 100% about diversity". they hire writers, editors, etc based on their political ideologies(most of them are leftists) and not for their talent, and the writers or whatever can keep their job while they attack the fans like this imgur.com/a/scM0rwC they have the same political ideology as the chief so he's not gonna fire them like Arenanet did. this shit in comics happens everyday if you disagree with their political ideologies and negatively criticize their comics. we don't want games to become an SJW dumpster like the comics have become, and that's why we're against things like forced diversity in Battlefield V for example. if you make a step back by saying "it's just a game. relax" these people will make 2 steps forward and eventually games will become SJW dumpster like the comics

I don´t think she should have been fired but I do think she should have been told to interact with fans better. But it is the company that decides what their standards for worker conduct means. It is somewhat ironic that apparently this very same person had previously said in some interview that she does not like gatekeepers and elitism, but maybe those days of her past are gone now and she fully has embraced the attitude.

If this was the first time she did something like this, I wouldn't think she deserved to be fired. Sometimes devs have really shitty days, especially during crunch time, so a warning or short suspension would have been more suitable. But from what it looks like, this wasn't the first time she has acted like this. So if she has repeatedly acted like this despite multiple warnings from her bosses, than yeah, she deserved to get fired.

Ah man, where was my support by the masses when I was fired from Tim Hortons? I only flipped a customer off when he drove away without paying, then he came back to complain. In my anger, I went to the back room and started punching the wall. Shit man, it is not my FAULT that i have insomnia, didnt sleep for 2 days, and have anger issues. Oh wait, it is my fault, and I accept that. See, while the customer may have been scum, I acted unprofessional, and lost my cool. While this was also my FIRST offence, I was fired immediately. Why? Because whether I like it or not, I represented Tim Hortons, and my actions did not comply with their standards. Is it debatable whether I should have been fired for a first offence? Sure. Does my stress and sleep problems excuse what I did? Absolutely not. Even if we believe Deroir was being low key sexist, that is is not excuse for Price to be so unprofessional, and nor is "stress" an excuse either.

I'm sad because as a fan and follower of the game devs at Anet, I actually predicted Price's meltdown months ago. Peter Fries was always great to have chats with though, and it's unfortunate he got brought down with her for defending his friend. We all make bad choices sometimes, though, and the consequences in this case were very justified. Glad MO still has the helm though.

I work security at a shopping mall in Colorado. Now imagine I start up a conversation with someone I just met and mention my work. They say "Hey, maybe you could do this differently at the mall." At which point I respond with "OK, rando sexist asshat you've never worked security." That sort of behavior would not be tolerated and I would be fired if it came back to my boss. This situation is no different.

As a guild wars 2 community member keeping tabs on whats been happening, I feel the need to point out that the Verge's article completely misrepresented the community and the subreddit. The comments from the subreddit that they quoted were cherry picked in order support their own narrative. They chose specifically toxic comments that were downvoted into oblivion (meaning the community as a whole disagree with these views) and used them to try and represent the views of the community as a whole. We are a great community that love the game and only want to see it improve. We love our devs and owe so much to them. While there were many mixed feelings about the actions taken by the CEO of ArenaNet, the majority of the community wanted at the very least an apology.

Everyone claiming that she was attacked because she's a female, like she claims in her rant, needs to understand something. She tried to create a situation of sexism where there wasn't one. This same exact thing happens to male devs every day. She tried to use her gender to play the victim when all the other person was doing was trying to have a discussion with her. She went on a rant because someone, who doesn't do her job, gave her feedback and she proceeded to launch into an attack on him, showing that she thinks she's better than him simply because she's a female and a developer. Don't defend this woman who very clearly thinks she's better than everyone else simply because of her gender and job. This isn't a case of 'mansplainin' or toxic masculinity, it's a case of 'How dare you, a man, speak to me because I'm a woman', and toxic feminimity. She deserved to be fired. What's sad is, the fact that the mainstream media is rushing to defend her simply because she's a woman and, thus, sensationalizing the entire thing without actually reporting the facts, is exactly what Trump means when he says the media is not to be trusted. Anyone who came across this whole situation by reading it through a gaming news source won't find the actual interaction and they'll be led to believe that he was attacking her. What a sad state of affairs it is these days.....

The way this case was portrait on Kotaku and Rock, Paper, Shotgun is insulting to an intelligent person since it can be debunked within minutes purely by looking up the twitter conversation in question. At this point I am just tired of identity politics infesting game press. I don't say games journalism shouldn't cover stories like this at all but if they decide to, they should come from an unbiased stance.

There was a big poster in Melbourne Australia, that had a male teacher teaching a class of female students, and the sexist SJW feminists tried to play it off as mansplaining and sexist, and even going as far as to say that the men who saw it and thought it was normal, were a part of the problem. So it's okay for a woman to teach a class of men, but not the other way around? These people are crazy..... The sad thing is, what I know in my own profession, is thanks to "men and women" who taught me all I know, so as to make me competent in my work. Trying to segregate would have made me worse off. These people are retarded for thinking of men as being worthless. Jessica didn't even thank Peter for White Knighting, she didn't even consider him at all. This is how much of a sexist she really is. Not just because she pulled gender out of her ass, but because even when a dude defended her and lost his job, she didn't even stop to consider it at all, not even for a second. And we know this from the responses that she gave out.

The two that got fired kept going on about how it was their "private" twitter feed. However, they had their tweets public, instead of making them private. They also made sure to put that they worked for ArenaNet in their Twitter profiles, to make sure they got that blue check-mark from Twitter. If you link your work to your social media account , you have ZERO cause to claim privacy. If you are talking about your work *publicly* on social media, you do not get to claim privacy. She could have ignored the post, or walked away from the conversation after her reply, but she kept doubling down, and even expanded the number of people she was attacking (most of whom were trying to be respectful from what I saw). Price absolutely deserved firing, and should have been fired long ago when you look at her post history. I've seen a lot of people say Fries didn't deserve it, as the posts he made weren't as bad as hers, but that doesn't fly: He fully supported her attacks on the fans, despite how toxic she got. Besides, does anyone really think she wouldn't have played the sexism card had they only fired her? ArenaNet had to act to save themselves from this PR disaster, and Fries willingly joined in Price's dumpster fire and supported her. It doesn't matter that what he posted wasn't as bad as her posts; he shouldn't have jumped in on her side. He did and now he's paid the price as well. As for the games "journalists" jumping on their standard bandwagon? Is any one really surprised at this? Truly? The ONLY time I hear what they have to say is when it is brought up in videos like here. They've been so obviously corrupt, for so long, that I can no longer even guess the year I last actually read gaming articles. I get my news from Laymen Gaming, YongYea, Jim Sterling, or Pretty Good Gaming, and I've never regretted it.

No, they say that whatever they're reporting has given rise to a denial of allegations. That's why I never watch or read the news anymore. I can overlook many of the faults of the first two, when I watch them with the right mindset. Also, I guess I'm biased cause they were kinda "my generation's Star Wars" - but yeah: I like the prequels more than the Original trilogy and the Disney trilogy.

I grew up with the prequels. While now I can see the many flaws they have, I can still enjoy many aspects of them. Palpatine's rise to power, Obi Wan, interesting battles, world building, and the various spin-off media (books, shows, games). Disney's sequel era has only made me appreciate the prequels even more so.

IGN is mostly clickbait to be honest. Also Dan Stapleton and McCaffrey are both still there so I try to avoid their reviews too. Kotaku has Jason Schreier (easily the best journalist working both their and almost anywhere else). Review-wise, Chris Carter of Destructoid is prolific and finishes three or four games a month sometimes for reviews. Polygon can on occasion come out with really interesting opinion articles or analyses of particular games.

Honestly I mainly use Destructoid. They offer actual coverage on games and carry a very grounded world view and have an awesome sense of humour to boot. Awesome community they've cultivated over there too. IGN isn't too bad but their clickbait is out of control and they retitle old articles all the time. When they actually cover something it's typically good quality and unbiased.

This is the best take on this situation that I’ve seen. Well said, gentlemen. While I don’t believe that Jessica Price should’ve been fired for those tweets alone, despite the fact that she was extremely unprofessional, I think this was just the tip of the iceberg. And her disgusting and unwarranted comment on the death of TotalBiscuit was part of that. As to why Peter Fries was also dismissed after over a decade at the company, I suspect that there were clearly long-standing issues going on behind the scenes at ArenaNet that we were unaware of. As for Star Wars, if I place all ten movies in order of greatness, The Last Jedi is in 10th place.

Easily preferred the prequels to the sequels. The prequels brought so many new and different ideas to SW, the Jedi council, politics (not 2018 SJW gender politics, actual meaningful politics like corruption and the military complex), completely new planets that looked interesting and diverse AND IT GAVE WAY TO THE CLONE WARS!! Both the original 2003 samurai jack style and the 2008 animated movie and tv show (which I prefer and is my fav sw media period)

Great show guys. As I Guild Wars 2 player (in the past not recently unfortunately) I'm quite happy about this. I think I will be making a purchase just to support a Game Company that is willing to defend it's customers. I agree with you that other Developers need to put a stop to this ridiculous behavior.

I feel bad for Ms Price, in that obviously something horrible happened to her in her past to make her so extremely hypersensitive to criticism. Male game developers get the same flack that she got - and honestly usually in far ruder ways - so pretending that she was being attacked by a sexist is disingenuous, and hurts ALL WOMEN. Next time one of us is legitimately targeted by sexist or misogynistic comments, this inappropriate reaction makes it all the easier for people to ignore the problem as "hypersensitive SJWs" or someone "being on the rag", etc. Ms Price strikes me as a particular type of person, who cannot introspect when handed criticism, even of the most mild sort, and who instead finds it far easier to blame everyone else around them for their own personal faults. And sadly, we have far too many people like this in the public eye today. I hope she learns about introspection and collaboration from this debacle.

Their behaviour was unacceptable and needed some harsh consequences. Also those mainstream media should rethink their guidelines. Anyone should be able to voice his opinion and if it is done in a reasonable manner and recognizable as such, there is room for this at the end of an article. But articles that don't start with the facts and are fully biased, should never be published by any media company.
